Los fallos parciales, las degradaciones de los servicios y los problemas locales son típicos en el ecosistema cloud. He aquí un manual de buenas prácticas para maximizar la resiliencia según Gartner.
En el marco de la celebración de la Conferencia de Gartner en Londres, la firma de análisis e investigación ha puesto el foco sobre las estrategias de infraestructura, operaciones y nube de TI. En este sentido, ha puesto de manifiesto la necesidad de que los líderes de Infraestructura y Operaciones (I&O) implementen nueve principios estratégicos para maximizar la resiliencia de los entornos cloud. “La nube no es mágicamente resistente, y los errores de software, no los fallos físicos, causan casi todas las interrupciones”, afirmó Chris Saunderson, director analista senior en la consultora. En la nube, proseguía, “las interrupciones casi nunca involucran a todo el proveedor, ni suelen ser totales. Lo más típico, en cambio, son los fallos parciales, degradaciones del servicio, problemas de servicio individuales o problemas locales”.
Con este escenario como telón de fondo, los analistas de la firma discutían cómo adoptar y limitar el impacto de las fallas de los proveedores de nube. Y es que, a su parecer, es crucial que el equipo de I&O comprenda las características y causas comunes de las interrupciones de la nube. Incluyen que la mayoría de los fallos son parciales, tienden a ser intermitentes o involucran una degradación del rendimiento donde son menos perceptibles de inmediato, y existen diferencias de resiliencia entre los servicios que ofrecen los proveedores de la nube.
“La resiliencia no es un estado binario”, dijo Saunderson. “Nadie puede afirmar que tiene una resiliencia absoluta, ni usted ni ningún proveedor de nube. Las nubes deberían ser tan resilientes o incluso más que la infraestructura local, pero sólo si el equipo de I&O las utiliza de esta forma”. He aquí un manual de buenas prácticas para potenciar la resiliencia de las aplicaciones en la nube.
Alineación empresarial: Alinear los requisitos de resiliencia con las necesidades empresariales. Sin esta consonancia y armonía de requisitos, los equipos no alcanzarán las expectativas de resiliencia o gastarán de más.
Enfoque basado en riesgos: Adopte un enfoque basado en riesgos para la planificación de la resiliencia que se extienda más allá de los eventos catastróficos. Poner más énfasis en los fallos más comunes que las organizaciones tienen mayor control para mitigar.
Mapeo de dependencias: cree gráficos de dependencia que mapeen todos los componentes de middleware, bases de datos, servicios en la nube y puntos de integración para que puedan diseñarse y configurarse para lograr resiliencia e incluirse en la planificación de confiabilidad y recuperación ante desastres (DR).
Disponibilidad continua: el enfoque de disponibilidad continua se centra en mantener las aplicaciones, los servicios y los datos disponibles en todo momento y niveles de servicio sin tiempo de inactividad y con un impacto limitado durante un evento de falla.
Resiliente por diseño: la aplicación en sí debe ser resistente por diseño. La resiliencia de la infraestructura por sí sola no es suficiente para brindar los servicios sin tiempo de inactividad que esperan los usuarios finales.
Automatización de DR: la implementación de una recuperación ante desastres (DR) totalmente (o casi totalmente) automatizada, ya sea a través de las propias herramientas de la organización o de herramientas de DR nativas de la nube de terceros, proporciona la base necesaria para cumplir objetivos agresivos de tiempo de recuperación (RTO) y permite que la DR se pruebe de forma rutinaria.
Estándares de resiliencia: Adoptar estándares de resiliencia más allá de la arquitectura y la DR. Los sistemas resilientes requieren que los equipos se centren en la calidad, la automatización y la mejora continua, e infundan calidad durante todo el ciclo de vida de una aplicación.
Favorecer las soluciones nativas de la nube: los proveedores de la nube tienen una gama significativa de soluciones que pueden usarse para mejorar la resiliencia. Cuando sea viable, los líderes de I&O deberían aprovechar estas soluciones en lugar de intentar inventar sus propias alternativas y agregar aún más complejidad.
Enfoque en las funciones comerciales: en lugar de restringir el pensamiento a solo «conmutación por error» comparable, explore alternativas, como otras vías de TI livianas o sustituciones de aplicaciones livianas que proporcionen la funcionalidad mínima crítica requerida para el negocio.
