En este proceso de transformación se observa que las empresas viven momentos de madurez completamente distintos. Algunas se han embarcado en proyectos cloud desde hace 3 o 4 años y otras se lanzan ahora en sus primeros proyectos. En la mayoría de los casos, optan por proyectos “atomizados” donde pretenden resolver determinadas situaciones, y obtener resultados que les permitan cuantificar los beneficios en términos de eficiencias de TI, que impactan positivamente en el negocio. Un ejemplo claro es la adopción de Red Hat Ansible a la hora de iniciar procesos de automatización, en el que los clientes eligen casos de uso muy evidentes que permiten mejorar la eficiencia e incrementar la seguridad de los procesos, o cuando usan metodologías ágiles basadas en DevOps para acelerar el despliegue de aplicaciones en multicloud.
En este “viaje” de adopción de cloud, hay que tener en cuenta la herencia tecnológica de cada empresa y consecuentemente, el ecosistema variopinto existente en los centros de datos actuales.
Por ello, la elección de soluciones empresariales basadas en estándares abiertos que se integren con lo existente es aún más relevante. Es fundamental también, contar con servicios profesionales de partners estratégicos que recomienden las mejores prácticas y ayuden a diseñar las mejores arquitecturas TI y procesos, para llevar a cabo esta evolución.
Por otro lado, se observa que algunas empresas optan por un enfoque “do it yourself”. En algunos casos, sobre todo en fases piloto o de experimentación, puede ser una estrategia válida utilizar las tecnologías basadas en proyectos de open source. Sin embargo, si se extiende en el tiempo, lo más común es encontrarse con una complejidad muy elevada que termina resultando inmanejable desde un punto de vista de gestión y control.
Lo cierto es que en el último año hemos visto una clara adopción de arquitecturas de cloud híbrida, basadas en tecnologías open source empresariales. En este ámbito, el papel de la cloud privada sale reforzado por cuestiones de cumplimento normativo, pero también se ve cada vez más la adopción de cloud públicas en entornos multicloud, para satisfacer determinadas necesidades, como picos de carga o determinado tipo de operativas asociadas a entornos no productivos.
Ante este panorama, es fundamental que tecnología y cultura empresarial viajen de la mano a la hora de elegir una buena estrategia cloud. Es muy importante huir de soluciones que llevan a un “lock-in”, optar por herramientas que permitan crear “estándares de facto” dentro de la propia empresa y ser capaces de situar la seguridad en la base de todo, pero sin que esta signifique un “freno” a la evolución.
Contar con una estrategia clara de evolución hacia multicloud híbrida es crucial al mismo tiempo que es fundamental no olvidar la importancia de las personas en todo este proceso. La tecnología no deja de ser el habilitador a la innovación, pero las personas y una cultura abierta basada en la transparencia, la colaboración y la meritocracia es lo que asegurará el éxito.
