Internet de las Cosas (IoT) está revolucionando los usos de los individuos, y especialmente de las empresas y de los territorios. Los beneficios para la vida diaria son innegables, lo que explica que las previsiones deinversión global en despliegues IoT a finales de 2019 se sitúen en los 726.000 millones de dólares según IDC. En 2023, este mercado alcanzará los 1,1 billones de dólares (1,1 trillones según el sistema métrico americano) según esta misma consultora con un crecimiento sostenido del 12,6% durante estos 4 próximos años.
Matooma, especialista en la conectividad de objetos vía tarjeta SIM a través de redes celulares, ha identificado 5 sectores que están liderando la adopción de IoT.
Seguridad IoT de los bienes y las personas
La seguridad es un desafío importante ya sea en el campo profesional o en la esfera privada. Los fabricantes de dispositivos conectados lo han entendido y han enfocado sus capacidades en la seguridad de los bienes y las personas.
Según Frédéric Salles, CEO de Matooma, “en el sector profesional vemos un enfoque muy claro en la idea de la seguridad conectada, desde empresas que cuentan con trabajadores aislados que son provistos de dispositivos de seguridad conectados (PTA) para advertir de alguna situación de urgencia, pasando por edificios, ya sea para uso profesional o privado, que pueden ser dotados de alarmas contra incendios directamente conectadas al centro de atención telefónica de los bomberos o botones de alarma disponibles en los ascensores”.
Los objetos conectados también pueden proteger a los seres queridos a través de dispositivos de alerta de caída, por ejemplo. Se trata de dispositivos de teleasistencia para personas mayores como relojes, collares o brazaletes. Los desfibriladores cardíacos conectados también son un buen ejemplo de la protección de las personas a través del IoT.
La salud conectada
El sector de la salud también está experimentando profundos cambios provocados por el IoT. El mercado de sensores médicos alcanzará un volumen de negocio de 27.700 millones de dólares en 2026 con un crecimiento sostenido durante estos próximos años de un 9,9% según Transparency Market Research. El IoT permite ofrecer una atención de mayor calidad, y también desarrollar productos que contribuyen al bienestar de las personas. El crecimiento del mercado mundial de wearables, que según IDC alcanzará los 198,5 millones de unidades vendidas a finales de 2019 (+15,3%) es el ejemplo perfecto. Los wearables juegan un importante papel en la salud conectada ya que permiten recopilar datos importantes de los pacientes además de facilitarles su propia monitorización. “El sector de la salud es uno de los principales impulsores del crecimiento de los wearables”, comenta Salles. Relojes deportivos, podómetros, básculas, etc. Todos estos objetos están cada vez más conectados para aportar información sobre la salud y el estado físico.
El transporte conectado
A excepción del transporte público, a menudo se cuestiona el uso de vehículos. Entre los accidentes y las emisiones de carbono, se esperan avances en este sector. Por lo tanto, el IoT tiene un papel muy importante que desempeñar para participar en la seguridad de los conductores y pasajeros, y también para luchar contra la contaminación.
Los profesionales del sector de la automoción están teniendo en cuenta estos problemas y han adaptado el IoT para mejorar los vehículos. Por ejemplo, los sensores conectados se pueden usar para controlar el consumo de combustible, analizar la conducción o programar la próxima revisión.
Del mismo modo, el IoT puede contribuir a la optimización de los viajes y la flota de vehículos de las empresas de transporte. Por ejemplo, el Grupo Nicollin, especialista en el mercado de la gestión de residuos en Francia, ha equipado a sus camiones de basura con tarjetas SIM M2M multioperador para garantizar una cobertura óptima para la transmisión de voz y datos. Gracias a este proceso, los 70 centros del grupo están en contacto constante con los vehículos. Esto permite a Nicollin mejorar el tiempo necesario para poner sus materiales a disposición de los centros de gestión.
Las smart grids
Las smart grids (redes inteligentes) optimizan el consumo de energía en dos niveles.
Por un lado, los proveedores de gas y electricidad pueden adaptar su producción estudiando los datos proporcionados por los sensores. Pueden medir muchos factores que van desde la temperatura hasta la presión y la humedad.
Por otro lado, estos datos también pueden ser útiles para los consumidores que pueden controlar su consumo de energía y los costes relacionados.
El uso de dispositivos conectados en el sector energético hace posible controlar la distribución y el consumo de energía a nivel de un individuo o de una ciudad.
Las smart cities
Los territorios inteligentes, reagrupados bajo el nombre de smart cities, se han convertido en un verdadero desafío para mejorar la calidad de vida de los residentes. IoT puede usarse para combatir la contaminación o regular el tráfico de automóviles.
La ciudad de Santander, por ejemplo, ha instalado más de 20.000 sensores para conectar su territorio urbano. Esta ciudad usa la Internet de las cosas para facilitar el movimiento de las personas, controlar el consumo de energía y protegerlas con una red de cámaras y enlaces a servicios de emergencia.
