La aceleración digital a la que ha obligado la COVID-19 exige agilidad en la adaptación a un entorno en constante cambio. Las organizaciones están buscando la forma de afrontar este escenario y evitar la ‘brecha de aceleración’. Y en este contexto, las soluciones SaaS muestran todo su potencial.
“La pandemia ha acelerado la transformación digital. Pero esos procesos tienen que ganar más velocidad porque puede producirse un ‘gap tecnológico”, afirmaba María José Marzal, directora de ComputerWorld, al comienzo del debate ‘La aceleración digital marca el éxito en el nuevo entorno operativo’, organizado el 30 de junio por ComputerWorld y Workday.
Aunque la situación generada por la COVID-19 ha sido un catalizador para la digitalización, la mayoría de las organizaciones hace tiempo que son conscientes de la necesidad de evolucionar y, de hecho, llevan años avanzando en esta dirección. “La digitalización es algo que veníamos abordando desde antes, pero la pandemia lo ha acelerado. Sin esta digitalización previa, hubiéramos tenido muchos más problemas de los que ha causado la pandemia. Es un factor de éxito”, declaraba Víctor Emmanuel Aguilera, CIO de Alsea.
Ricardo Mardomingo, director de Área TIC de Eulen, especificó que el plan de transformación digital desplegado por su compañía se centra en tres retos: la transformación del espacio de trabajo, el gobierno del dato y la gestión documental. Por su parte, Antonio Rodríguez de la Torre, responsable de RRHH y Prevención de Riesgos Laborales de Gonvarri Tarragona, indicó que hay dos grandes líneas de transformación: la digitalización de los puestos de trabajo de oficina —digital workplace, uso de herramientas colaborativas y de comunicación…— y la evolución hacia la industria 4.0 —sensorización, recolección de datos de las máquinas, mantenimiento predictivo, etc.—. “No necesitamos sólo acceder a Teams, sino también a los datos de las máquinas, para analizar su funcionamiento y corregir lo que sea preciso”, anotaba.
Por su parte, Gonzalo Martínez, IST director, demand management de Sigma (Campofrío en España), señaló que “muchas de las cosas que han llegado con la pandemia están para quedarse”, como la nueva manera de gestionar a los empleados que implica el teletrabajo. “IT tienen tiene que acompañar en este nuevo modelo”, apuntaba. Igualmente, recalcó que “los clientes han descubierto el ecommerce y se van a quedar”, por lo que hay que replantearse la manera de relacionarse con ellos.
Adolfo Pellicer, country manager de Workday, expuso que “nos estamos enfrentando a un mundo que ha cambiado mucho en los últimos meses, y que se va a quedar con nosotros, donde la incertidumbre va a ser la norma”. Explicó que las organizaciones ahora tienen una “necesidad de planificación continua”, por lo que “los líderes se enfrentan a un nuevo conjunto de reglas y han de reajustar los planes con precisión y rapidez”. Además, recalcó que muchas empresas han pasado a tener toda su plantilla teletrabajando, obligando a reconfigurar procesos.
Todas estas circunstancias han hecho que aparezca el concepto de ‘brecha de aceleración’ o ‘aceleration gap’. “Lo entendemos como la diferencia entre el ritmo del cambio y la velocidad de las empresas para adaptarse, ya que la presión está aumentando. Según Accenture, el 75% de las compañías están atascadas en silos de datos. Un informe de Deloitte señala que el 74% de las compañías no está preparadas para lo que viene a continuación. Además, McKinsey indica que el 80% de las compañías tardan demasiado tiempo en tomar decisiones. Y según KPMG, el 63% de los CEO afirman que sus procesos y ejecución son demasiado lentos, mientras que el 67% de las empresas reconocen que están perdiendo demasiado terreno y pueden llegar a desaparecer si no toman medidas. SaaS es una herramienta que va a ayudar a capear esto”, comentaba.
En este sentido, Agustín González, CIO Movistar Prosegur Alarmas, reconoció que las grandes empresas, con una larga trayectoria a sus espaldas, tienen “mucho sistema legado, que es difícil de ajustar al ritmo de cambio que exigen los clientes”. Así pues, defendió el uso del cloud computing, “apoyándonos en la potencia de las aplicaciones SaaS, aprovechando que hay fabricantes que piensan por nosotros e incluyen inteligencia artificial, machine learning, etc.”, comentaba.
Al hilo de ello, Mardomingo apuntó que la transformación digital y la transición de los sistemas legados exige una “doble aproximación”. Así pues, no se trata tan sólo de la implementación de nuevas soluciones, sino que en muchos casos habrá que afrontar soluciones transitorias para resolver ese ‘aceleration gap’, aprovechando para ello las capacidades que ofrecen los proveedores SaaS.
En este sentido, recomendó contar con un comité de transformación o de estandarización que guíe esta transición y que saque el máximo provecho de las nuevas posibilidades que ofrecen las soluciones SaaS en cada actualización. “Esa agilidad y flexibilidad que proporcionan debe ser gestionada y gobernada. Tiene que haber alguien que revise las mejoras que ofrecen los proveedores SaaS para aprovecharlas y que gestione ese mundo híbrido SaaS, on premise y legacy”. Asimismo, el responsable de Alsea remarcó que “las actualizaciones añaden flexibilidad al negocio, así como interconectividad entre aplicaciones on premise y SaaS”.
Miguel de Fermín, responsable de Soluciones IT de Insud Pharma, apuntó que la transformación digital no sólo afecta al área de IT, sino que también supone un cambio de cultura e involucra al departamento de RR.HH.
Asimismo, el responsable de Sigma-Campofrío indicó que las ventajas que ofrece el cloud no siempre son apreciadas por toda la organización, por lo que “hay que saber justificarlo”. Por ejemplo, reseñó que “trabajar con aplicaciones en la nube exige cambiar de procesos y en la forma de hacer las cosas, así como un cambio cultural, que debe ir de la mano de RR.HH.”. Y también tiene un impacto económico-financiero. “Supone un cambio de ‘chip’. En vez de hacer inversiones que se amortizan en 10 años, se trata de un gasto”, afirmaba.
Además, De la Torre señaló que es necesario amoldar la transformación al ritmo de cada colectivo. “Hay que establecer varias fases de cambio cultural, porque hay personas que están funcionando con la nueva tecnología en apenas unos días o semanas, mientras que otras personas requieren de un proceso de adaptación y acompañamiento”.
Pellicer destacó la presencia que tienen las soluciones SaaS en algunos ámbitos. “En CRM y marketing, prácticamente todas las empresas de la lista Fortune 500 están en SaaS. Y en la gestión de recursos humanos, alrededor del 70%”, apuntaba. Sin embargo, reconoció que el SaaS apenas tiene presencia en el área de finanzas. No obstante, auguró que en los próximos años veremos crecer este tipo de soluciones.
Asimismo, Aguilera destacó el déficit existente en plataformas de manufactura y logística estandarizadas. En este sentido, el responsable de Workday anotó que será preciso desarrollar soluciones que permitan hibridar soluciones SaaS en finanzas y soluciones on premise en manufactura y logística.
