Y es que a medida que los mercados de computación en la nube y la infraestructura de los centros de datos evolucionan y crece el interés por migrar cargas de trabajo, son muchas las empresas que luchan por identificar a los socios adecuados. “Las empresas están comenzando a buscar ubicación para cargas de trabajo que todavía no han migrado a la nube pública”, comenta Dennis Smith, vicepresidente y analista distinguido de Gartner. Esto, continúa, representa aproximadamente el 70% de todas las cargas de trabajo, pero “el creciente número de proveedores, tecnologías y mercados superpuestos conlleva que sea difícil identificar la opción de infraestructura óptima para las circunstancias y necesidades únicas de una organización”.
Sin embargo, hoy día, hay muchas opciones para las empresas que buscan servicios de infraestructura para sus cargas de trabajo que ahora residen en las instalaciones. Estas contemplan desde ofertas de virtualización de servidores de proveedores hasta un conjunto completo de servicios proporcionados por proveedores de nube pública. Así, con el fin de determinar las estrategias de ubicación adecuadas, la consultora recomienda que los líderes de infraestructura y operaciones (I&O) sigan tres pasos.
Muchas empresas buscan soluciones inspiradas en la nube para cargas de trabajo locales existentes, como aplicaciones críticas para el negocio y cargas de trabajo de uso general. Estos entornos pueden estar virtualizados, pero tienen capacidades limitadas de automatización y autoservicio debido a su naturaleza personalizada.
Las empresas que amplían sus entornos locales para inspirarlos en la nube deben garantizar que las implementaciones aborden los requisitos de la nube pública. Muchas soluciones de computación en la nube e inspiradas en la nube también ofrecen capacidades híbridas, donde se pueden implementar elementos de infraestructura e interfaces de programación de aplicaciones (API) comunes tanto en las instalaciones como en la nube pública.
La necesidad actual de soportar cargas de trabajo ubicadas fuera de las regiones de nube pública implica que en un futuro se necesitará previsiblemente una infraestructura mixta de nube y no nube. «Las empresas necesitan capacidades híbridas y siempre las necesitarán», afirma Smith. «Si bien las nubes públicas ofrecen muchos beneficios, como innovación, agilidad y escalabilidad, su utilidad puede verse limitada cuando se implementan fuera de las ubicaciones elegidas por los proveedores de nubes públicas».
El mercado de servicios de plataforma e infraestructura en la nube (CIPS) está cambiando significativamente y tiene consecuencias a largo plazo para el futuro de la TI empresarial. De hecho, el mercado CIPS está evolucionando actualmente hacia cuatro mercados separados:
Infraestructura híbrida distribuida (DHI): aborda las limitaciones de una infraestructura local tradicional para obtener beneficios del modelo operativo en la nube, brindando mayor consistencia y disponibilidad.
Servicios estratégicos de plataforma en la nube (SCPS): cubren toda la gama de servicios en la nube e incluyen la modernización de aplicaciones heredadas para empresas.
Gestión de contenedores: cubre una gama de ofertas de gestión de contenedores que incluyen plataformas Kubernetes, gestión de flotas de clústeres y ofertas sin servidor.
Plataformas DevOps: incluyen soluciones destinadas a ayudar a la integración/entrega continua.
Todos estos mercados residen fuera de la virtualización de servidores, los servicios de consumo de infraestructura (ICS) y los mercados relacionados con la infraestructura del centro de datos (DCI). En este contexto, «las empresas tendrán que navegar tanto por las diferencias como por las superposiciones entre los mercados CIPS para elegir la ubicación adecuada de la carga de trabajo», insiste Smith. «Esto incluye identificar las diferentes personas, aclarar sus requisitos, tanto en la infraestructura nativa de la nube como en los vectores de afinidad del desarrollador de aplicaciones, y mapearlos en el mercado apropiado».
Los líderes de I&O deben determinar su preferencia por un proveedor con un enfoque de adentro hacia afuera o de afuera hacia adentro. El enfoque de adentro hacia afuera involucra a proveedores de centros de datos tradicionales que han agregado servicios en la nube, mientras que el enfoque de afuera hacia adentro involucra a proveedores de nube que brindan servicios locales. Además, los líderes deben decidir si seguirán un enfoque de solo nube o de nube primero (mercado SCPS) o adoptarán la nube de manera más moderada (mercado DHI).
«Los líderes de I&O pueden seleccionar la solución de infraestructura correcta realizando un análisis exhaustivo de los casos de uso e identificando las características y capacidades principales necesarias», dijo Smith. «Esto ayudará a determinar las tecnologías y los proveedores adecuados que se ajusten a los requisitos».
