En 2020, las fusiones y adquisiciones en las TI a escala mundial ascendieron a 634.100 millones de dólares, lo que supone un aumento del 91,8% interanual. ¿Se igualará esa cifra en 2021?.
En medio del coronavirus, 2020 fue un año imprevisible en más aspectos de los que cualquiera hubiera esperado. Pero si hay algo que se mantuvo bastante constante fue el flujo constante de fusiones y adquisiciones en el sector tecnológico.
El año pasado, las fusiones y adquisiciones tecnológicas mundiales ascendieron a 634.000 millones de dólares, lo que supone un aumento del 91,8% con respecto al año anterior según GlobalData. Entre la última oleada de grandes operaciones se encuentra la adquisición de Xilinx por parte de Advanced Micro Devices, por valor de 35.000 millones de dólares, y la adquisición de Slack por parte de Salesforce, por valor de 27.700 millones de dólares.
¿Se mantendrá este ritmo de fusiones y adquisiciones en 2021? Si tomamos el año 2020 como referencia, no habrá una ralentización de las grandes operaciones en todo el sector, con las innovaciones de silicio y el software de colaboración como las áreas que despiertan mayor interés.
En consecuencia, aquí le contamos las mayores adquisiciones de tecnología empresarial realizadas en los comienzos de este 2021, en orden cronológico inverso:
Workday anunció sus planes de comprar la plataforma de feedback de empleados Peakon por 700 millones de dólares en efectivo.
Fundada en Dinamarca en 2014, Peakon había recaudado 68 millones de dólares en financiación hasta la fecha. Ofrece a las organizaciones una herramienta de software como servicio (SaaS) para el seguimiento regular del sentimiento de los empleados y otras herramientas para medir la felicidad de la fuerza de trabajo, por lo que es una adquisición altamente complementaria para las propias herramientas SaaS de RRHH de Workday.
«La incorporación de Peakon a la familia de Workday será muy atractiva para nuestros clientes, especialmente después de un año extraordinario que ha magnificado la importancia de tener un pulso constante del sentimiento de los empleados para mantener a la gente comprometida y productiva», ha admitido Aneel Bhusri, cofundador y codirector general de Workday.
SAP anunció ese día la adquisición de la también alemana Signavio, compañía especializada en la gestión e inteligencia de procesos empresariales nativos en la nube, por una cantidad no revelada. Signavio fue valorada por última vez en 400 millones de dólares después de una ronda de financiación de 177 millones de dólares en julio de 2019.
El anuncio se hizo coincidió con el lanzamiento de una nueva solución de SAP llamada Rise, un paquete de software y servicios existentes de SAP cuyo objetivo es ofrecer a los clientes «la transformación del negocio como servicio«, según explican desde el gigante alemán.
SAP tendrá como objetivo utilizar la experiencia de Signavio en torno a la inteligencia de procesos de negocio para ayudar a más clientes a optimizar estos procesos a medida que se vuelven más digitales.
«No puedo dejar de insistir en la importancia de que las empresas sean capaces de diseñar, comparar, mejorar y transformar los procesos de negocio en toda la empresa para dar soporte a nuevas capacidades y modelos de negocio», ha declarado al respecto Luka Mucic, director financiero y miembro de la junta directiva de SAP.
Citrix dio a conocer ese día la adquisición prevista del fabricante de software de colaboración Wrike por 2.250 millones de dólares en efectivo. Citrix ya cuenta con una plataforma de trabajo digital llamada Workspace, y ahora tratará de integrar el equipo y la tecnología de Wrike en ese producto.
«Juntos, Citrix y Wrike ofrecerán las soluciones necesarias para impulsar una experiencia de espacio de trabajo digital en la nube que permita a los equipos acceder de forma segura a los recursos y herramientas que necesitan para colaborar y realizar el trabajo de la forma más eficiente y eficaz posible a través de cualquier canal, dispositivo o ubicación», ha reconocido David Henshall, presidente y CEO de Citrix, en un comunicado emitido por la compañía.
Cisco comenzó el año adquiriendo la firma de tecnología óptica Acacia por 4.500 millones de dólares. Anunciada originalmente en julio de 2019, hubo muchas idas y venidas sobre el acuerdo, y Cisco pagó 1.900 millones de dólares adicionales para que la compra se concretara.
Con sede en Massachusetts, Acacia se especializa en sistemas ópticos de alta velocidad, como el procesamiento de señales digitales, los módulos de circuitos integrados fotónicos y los transceptores para su uso en productos de red y centros de datos, un conjunto de tecnologías que Cisco ve claramente como parte integral de las futuras redes que unen los centros de datos, la nube y los proveedores de servicios.
«Juntos pondremos en marcha nuestra estrategia para transformar el mundo óptico tal y como lo conocemos, con soluciones innovadoras para impulsar la capacidad de la red dentro y fuera del centro de datos«, ha reconocido Bill Gartner, vicepresidente senior y director general del Grupo de Sistemas Ópticos y Óptica de Cisco, en un comunicado.
En consecuencia, el consejero delegado de Acacia, Raj Shanmugaraj, y los empleados de la empresa se incorporarán al negocio de óptica de Cisco una vez completado el acuerdo.
Tras el estallido de la consolidación de los semiconductores a finales de 2020, Qualcomm anunció la adquisición de Nuvia por unos 1.400 millones de dólares.

Juntos estamos muy bien posicionados para redefinir la informática y permitir que nuestro ecosistema de socios impulse la innovación y ofrezca una nueva clase de productos y experiencias para la era del 5G», ha declarado Cristiano Amon, presidente y consejero delegado electo de Qualcomm.
