Los usuarios finales de la nube pública gastarán un total de 494.700 millones de dólares en 2022, lo que significa un aumento del 20,4% respecto al año anterior, según prevé un nuevo estudio de Gartner. Se espera que esta cifra alcance casi 600.000 millones de dólares en 2023.
El vicepresidente de investigación de Gartner, Sid Nag, señala que «la nube es el motor que impulsa a las organizaciones digitales de hoy en día. Los CIO están más allá de la era de la exuberancia irracional de la contratación de servicios en la nube y están siendo reflexivos en su elección de los proveedores de la nube pública para impulsar resultados específicos de negocio y tecnología en su viaje de transformación digital».
En su estudio, la consultora detalla que la infraestructura como servicio (IaaS) será el que verá un mayor crecimiento en gasto, con un 30,6% del total. Le seguirá el Desktop-as-a-Service (DaaS) con un 26,6% y Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) con un 26,1%.
«Las capacidades nativas de la nube, como la contenedorización, la plataforma de base de datos como servicio (dbPaaS) y la inteligencia artificial/aprendizaje automático, contienen características más ricas que la computación comoditizada, como el IaaS o el Network-as-a-Service (NaaS). Como resultado, son generalmente más caros, lo que está alimentando el crecimiento del gasto», comenta Nag.
El DaaS, que alcanzará un gasto de 2.600 millones de dólares, se ha visto potenciado por el rápido auge del teletrabajo o modelo híbrido provocado por la pandemia, que ha obligado a las organizaciones a dejar de lado las herramientas tradicionales físicas de la oficina (como el ordenador de sobremesa), para enfocarse en las soluciones en la nube. Por su parte, el PaaS crecerá hasta los 109.600 millones de dólares debido a la alta necesidad de los usuarios finales de tener capacidades nativas en la nube.
Con 176.600 millones de dólares en gasto de usuario final contemplados para fines de año, el Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) sigue siendo el mayor segmento del mercado de la nube pública, sobre todo impulsado por las distintas formas que las empresas idean para comercializar estos servicios, como los marketplace en la nube.
Asimismo, nuevas tecnologías cloud como el Edge Computing de hiperescala o el Secure Access Service Edge (SASE) están creando nuevas categorías de productos que benefician a los proveedores de nubes públicas.
«Impulsado por la maduración de los servicios centrales en la nube, el enfoque de la diferenciación está cambiando gradualmente a las capacidades que pueden interrumpir los negocios digitales y las operaciones en las empresas directamente. Los servicios de la nube pública se han convertido en algo tan integral que los proveedores se ven ahora obligados a abordar retos sociales y políticos, como la sostenibilidad y la soberanía de los datos«, asegura Nag. En ese sentido, afirma que “las organizaciones que combinen la nube con otras tecnologías adyacentes y emergentes les irá aún mejor».
