En medio del mar de incertidumbre económica, hay algo quese perfila como innegociable para las empresas tecnológicas: un modelo económico de nube bien definido. Con la creciente necesidad de optimizar los costes, el control del gasto en la nube ha pasado a ocupar un lugar prioritario en las listas de prioridades de los CIO.
Aunque sólo en el primer trimestre de 2023 se registró un gasto abrumador de más de 63.000 millones de euros en servicios en la nube, la historia reciente dictaría que hasta un 30% de este gasto es innecesario. Este sorprendente hecho pone de relieve la necesidad de que las organizaciones cuenten con un plan de tecnología en la nube que se ajuste a sus expectativas financieras.
Profundicemos en las tres áreas clave en las que deben centrarse las empresas tecnológicas.
1. Entender el porqué
Uno de los primeros consejos que deben tener en cuenta las empresas que quieren migrar a la nube es, sin duda, asegurarse de entender por qué se hace. Eso significa pensar más allá de un mero resultado empresarial o de “la nube como una tecnología que todo el mundo utiliza”. En su lugar, debe equiparar tres factores:
2. Considerar el ciclo de vida de los datos
Un obstáculo común con el que tropiezan las empresas al definir su modelo económico de nube es ignorar el ciclo de vida de los datos. Hay que pensar en dónde se van a ubicar los datos y cuánto van a costar, pero esto no es ni debería ser lo mismo a lo largo de un ciclo de vida de los datos de siete años.
El modelo económico debe caminar de la mano del ciclo de vida de los datos, teniendo en cuenta su evolución a lo largo del tiempo. El coste de almacenamiento de los datos debería disminuir a medida que envejecen. Los datos nuevos exigen más recursos y se almacenan en sistemas transaccionales de alto rendimiento. Por otro lado, los datos que se acercan al final de su periodo de conservación obligatorio no necesitan un almacenamiento de última generación.
La progresión del ciclo de vida de los datos puede clasificarse a grandes rasgos en tres fases: nivel de rendimiento, almacenamiento de objetos y almacenamiento de archivos. Al planificar este ciclo de vida, se deben tener en cuenta otros factores cruciales como la resistencia al ransomware y el cumplimiento de la normativa. Si tus datos residen en un almacenamiento de categoría superior a la necesaria, estarás tirando el dinero por el desagüe.
3. Descartar la dicotomía entre seguridad y economía
A menudo se considera que la seguridad y la resistencia están reñidas con las consideraciones económicas. Estoes especialmente cierto cuando las empresas quieren aumentar su escala con la nube, pero no tiene por qué ser así. Las dos principales fuerzas impulsoras del cambio a la nube son la mejora de la resistencia frente al ransomware y la reducción de costes: es posible hacer ambas cosas. La inmutabilidad se originó en la nube, y la recuperación de desastres impulsada por la nube es ahora un elemento básico para la mayoría de las empresas, con el Veeam Data Protection Trends Report 2023 revelando que el 84% de las empresas emplean la nube para su función de recuperación de desastres.
Esta falsa dicotomía suele tener su origen en la deuda técnica, resultado de no incluir la seguridad en el plan de la nube desde su inicio. Un descuido de este tipo puede provocar una catástrofe o, como mínimo, fuertes gastos para corregir el error. El problema se agrava cuando la empresa y los equipos técnicos operan en silos, lo quelamentablemente es cada vez más frecuente. ¿Cuál es la solución? Tener en cuenta la seguridad desde la fase de diseño e integrarla en el modelo económico. Asegurarse de que los equipos técnicos están alineados con los equipos empresariales y tener una mentalidad equilibrada entre la resistencia al ransomware y su modelo económico. Incorporar la seguridad a la estrategia de nube desde el primer día. Adoptar un enfoque intencionado y holístico para evitar crear más deuda técnica.
A medida que las empresas navegan por el agitado panorama económico, es crucial crear un modelo económico de la nube basado en el “por qué” y equilibrar las consideraciones empresariales, técnicas y financieras. Un modelo económico de nube bien definido ya no es sólo una “buena idea”, sino una necesidad para la supervivencia y el crecimiento.
