Sin embargo, a pesar del bullicio en torno a la transformación digital, su implementación no siempre es fácil: solo el 44 % de los encuestados ha adoptado plenamente esta estrategia. La introducción de nuevas iniciativas en toda la empresa puede suponer una perspectiva desalentadora para los directivos, empleados y responsables de sistemas informáticos, sobre todo para estos últimos a la hora de evaluar el mejor entorno cloud para un negocio.
El éxito de una transformación digital no es posible sin una infraestructura que sea rápida y ofrezca la máxima fiabilidad y flexibilidad. En el contexto actual, el cloud público ya no es la mejor solución y las empresas deben plantearse una estrategia multicloud para satisfacer sus necesidades específicas.
Antes de explorar las ventajas y desafíos que los negocios deben tener en cuenta, veamos qué es un entorno multicloud y en qué se diferencia del cloud híbrido.
Distinción entre un enfoque multicloud y de cloud híbrido
Estamos inmersos en la época de la adopción de la nube. Un informepublicado por Eurostat en diciembre de 2018 ha revelado que el 22 % de las empresas españolas están usando el cloud. Aunque este porcentaje pueda parecer bajo, la cuestión es que todavía hay un margen enorme de crecimiento a medida que más empresas hagan la transición a una infraestructura basada en la nube.
Aunque el enfoque multicloud y de cloud híbrido están estrechamente relacionados, no son lo mismo. El cloud híbrido, como su nombre indica, es una combinación de servicios de cloud público y privado. Para ciertos negocios, este modelo permite a las organizaciones aprovechar las ventajas del cloud público, a la vez que conservan su propio cloud privado para datos y aplicaciones sensibles, críticos o sumamente regulados.

En los últimos años, la popularidad del cloud público e híbrido indica que cada vez más empresas externalizan sus servicios. En cambio, un entorno multicloud está formado por un conjunto de entidades que pueden estar sujetas a una gestión centralizada. Una estrategia multicloud funciona con cualquier combinación de cloud privado, público e híbrido. Por tanto, una organización puede tener varios entornos de cloud público y privado, o múltiples entornos de cloud híbrido, que pueden o no estar conectados entre sí.
Independientemente del tipo de entorno cloud por el que se opte, estos avances tecnológicos en infraestructura cloud son los que han permitido a las empresas idear y concebir nuevas soluciones y servicios a un ritmo más rápido.
Tomemos como ejemplo el fenómeno del internet de las cosas. La proliferación de wearables (dispositivos ponibles), electrodomésticos inteligentes y sensores de seguridad solo ha sido posible gracias a los desarrollos en materia de infraestructura multicloud. Pero, dejando de lado las tendencias globales de internet, ¿qué ventajas tiene una estrategia multicloud? ¿Y qué retos deberemos afrontar a la hora de poner en práctica esa estrategia?
Con el enfoque multicloud, el mundo está al alcance de la mano
Antes de continuar, vale la pena detenerse por un momento a analizar las ventajas del cloud híbrido. Este enfoque de cloud permite a las organizaciones aprovechar la escalabilidad que ofrece el cloud público. También ayuda a las empresas a compartir recursos y migrar entre cloud público y privado para optimizar los costes de los recursos y los niveles de tráfico de la red, que a menudo son variables.
Dicho esto, un enfoque multicloud ofrece la combinación más completa de entornos cloud públicos y privados, sin requerir el mismo grado de integración que en el cloud híbrido. Además, las empresas de hoy en día no tienen que limitarse a un solo proveedor. Utilizar múltiples plataformas cloud puede implicar un mayor riesgo de potenciales vulnerabilidades. Así pues, hace falta un esfuerzo adicional para que resulten eficaces en materia de seguridad, gobernanza y cumplimiento normativo. Sin embargo, hoy en día las empresas pueden recuperar el control hasta cierto punto y los problemas se pueden compensar formando bien a los empleados en materia de seguridad. Por ejemplo, las organizaciones pueden impartir un curso de formación obligatorio para personal informático sobre cómo evitar las brechas de seguridad y cómo reaccionar ante una intrusión o una filtración de datos.
Por lo tanto, el éxito de la seguridad en entornos multicloud requiere la adopción de soluciones basadas en la nube que sean capaces de garantizar de forma continua la verificación, el análisis y la gobernanza de los procesos de implementación y distribución del software.
Otro elemento a tener en cuenta cuando se opta por la diversidad de entornos cloud es la necesidad de mantener el control del presupuesto. Para garantizar la máxima eficiencia con una estrategia multicloud, puede ser útil contar con un equipo interno que consolide los datos y facilite un análisis de coste-beneficio para la organización. También es importante monitorizar los gastos del cloud y ajustarlos en función de los proyectos actuales y futuros.
En cualquier caso, la cuestión no es si las empresas adoptarán la nube, sino cuándo. A medida que la tecnología siga avanzando, la infraestructura cloud se convertirá en un requisito obligatorio para el desarrollo y el crecimiento de las empresas de todos los tamaños. Lo importante es saber que existe una gran variedad de entornos cloud para ayudar a las organizaciones a gestionar su transformación digital, y que el enfoque multicloud les permitirá satisfacer sus cambiantes necesidades.
