Uno estará alojado en las instalaciones de Telefónica en Alcalá de Henares, y para los otros dos el buscador también ha recurrido a especialistas.
Durante este año, la Santísima Trinidad de la nube pública mundial tendrá centros de datos propios (o gestionados por terceros) operativos en España. A los anuncios que habían hecho Amazon Web Services, que ultima la apertura de tres datacenters en Aragón, y Microsoft, que ha prometido también la entrada en escena de tres centros en municipios de la periferia de Madrid, se une ahora Google.
La apuesta de Google Cloud para España, con la que se viene especulando desde hace meses, de hecho ya está operativa, aunque no supone la construcción de centros propios. En realidad consiste en un centro de datos ubicado en las instalaciones de Telefónica en Alcalá de Henares, así como otros dos ubicados en instalaciones de terceros, y de los que Google no da más detalles, por cuestiones “de seguridad”. Tampoco se ha desvelado el espacio dedicado en estas instalaciones a la computación, ni la capacidad de potencia en cuanto a megavatios.
En todo caso, la filial de Google en España celebró por todo lo alto el lanzamiento de su nueva región cloud en Madrid, que se une a otras 32 que la compañía del buscador ya tiene desplegadas por todo el mundo. En el evento, Google contó con la participación de partners y clientes, además de Carme Artigas, secretaria de Estado de Digitalización e Inteligencia Artificial.
De esta manera, Google será capaz de rebajar la latencia de las comunicaciones (el tiempo que tarda en trasmitirse un paquete de información en la red) y también podrá calmar a aquellos clientes de sectores muy regulados (como la administración pública, la sanidad o las finanzas) que necesitan ejecutar localmente sus cargas de trabajo para garantizar la soberanía de los datos. En concreto, Google informa de que la latencia se podrá reducir hasta un solo milisegundo, cuando hasta ahora los tiempos medios oscilan entre 20 y 30 milisegundos.
Desde los centros de datos habilitados por Google en Madrid y alrededores, la compañía ofrecerá servicios de computación, Kubernetes, almacenamiento, bases de datos o identidades. En la presentación, Isaac Hernández, country manager de Google Cloud Iberia, recordó que el negocio de nube de Google es claramente expansivo en estos momentos, puesto que en el primer trimestre de este año reportó a la compañía 5.900 millones de dólares de facturación, lo que supuso un 44% de crecimiento.
Además, el directivo señaló que para los partners la puesta en marcha de la zona de computación de España (denominada Europa-southwest 1) “no cambia nada” y que serán los clientes que necesiten unos servicios con una latencia mínima los que sí noten beneficios.
Hernández también aseguró que las operaciones en España se engloban dentro de las inversiones globales de la compañía para el sur de Europa, que se elevan a 650 millones de dólares en cinco años, y donde “buena parte” de ese dinero se dedica precisamente a la apertura de la región cloud española.
La nueva región cloud de Google, que en realidad echó a andar el pasado 9 de mayo, ya tiene más de 100 clientes. Y 30 partners, entre ellos Indra, Deloitte, Kyndryl, Cap Gemini, Sngular o Making Science, ya están desplegando sus soluciones desde esta nube.
