La popularidad de la nube obliga a las personas al cargo de la TI a analizar las tendencias globales y estudiar cómo influyen en su organización.
La tecnología cloud se está imponiendo como arquitectura estándar en la TI empresarial. Es una de las grandes tendencias digitales y, por tanto, es obligado para la persona al cargo de la infraestructura conocer y manejar las herramientas que la habilitan, más allá de qué modelo elija la organización para su despliegue o de que todavía maneje sistemas locales.
Desde Gartner defienden que la nube es «uno de los segmentos de gasto en TI de más rápido crecimiento», lo que tiene un impacto directo en las responsabilidades del CIO. Para la firma de análisis, hay cuatro factores clave en esta expansión de la tecnología cloud, a los cuales se debe prestar especial atención desde el departamento de infraestructuras y sistemas.
En primer lugar, se destaca un elemento que se considera clave en el impulso a la adopción de la nube: la optimización de costes. Al menos hasta el año 2024, se requerirá el fortalecimiento de estas capacidades nativas para que la práctica totalidad de las aplicaciones heredadas migradas a modelos IaaS consigan aumentar su rentabilidad, lo que repercutirá en un incremento del mercado de herramientas de optimización de costes de terceros, especialmente vinculadas a entornos de múltiples nubes.
Precisamente en relación a estos modelos, la firma de análisis destaca el papel que el multicloud tendrá para reducir el bloqueo de proveedor: se espera que se reduzca esta dependencia para alrededor de dos tercios de las organizaciones hasta 2024. Esto se canalizará principalmente por otras vías, más allá de la portabilidad de la aplicación —la capacidad de migrar una aplicación a través de plataformas sin cambios—, ya que en la práctica se observa poca movilidad en estas herramientas, una vez implementadas en producción y adoptadas por la empresa. Así, será un reto para la persona responsable decidir cómo abordar este problema.
En el corto plazo, es posible que se vea un retraso en las migraciones a la nube a causa de las habilidades insuficientes de IaaS. Para paliar esta situación, el equipo de TI deberá confiar en proveedores de servicios administrados e integradores de sistemas, para lo cual deben comprobarse sus historiales de casos previos y se les debe exigir un grado de compromiso con los costes y ahorros necesarios.
Por último, se verá una tendencia a una mayor disponibilidad del servicio en la nube distribuida. Se trata de hacer que estos se alojen en ubicaciones próximas a usuarios y puntos de necesidad, para reducir la latencia, lo que facilitará que las aplicaciones se ejecuten directamente desde los servicios nativos de los proveedores cloud sin tener que construir infraestructura. Esto remite directamente al edge computing.
Estos cuatro factores son esenciales en las estrategias de adopción de la nube de las empresa, por lo que los CIO deben analizar cómo les influyen y actuar en consecuencia.
