Los modelos económicos, de negocio y sociales que han estado en vigor durante las últimas décadas se están transformando hacia los nuevos modelos o paradigmas. Al igual que el taylorismo, la automatización y las economías de escala marcaron la economía y los negocios en el siglo pasado, la transformación digital está llamada a ser el proceso mediante el que se pueden adaptar y consolidar los negocios al nuevo entorno del siglo XXI. Una de las palancas de este proceso es, sin duda, la adopción de modelos cloud como catalizadores y facilitadores de los nuevos usos y hábitos digitales.
En muy pocos años la pregunta respecto al modelo cloud ha cambiado de forma radical en las organizaciones. Si ayer, la pregunta era nube sí o no, hoy la pregunta es nube cuándo, cómo y con quién. Los últimos informes hablan de que casi el 70% de las organizaciones tienen o están pensando en cloud como un eje básico de su estrategia, siendo las startups el extremo de esa adopción. No hay duda, las pequeñas empresas ven en los servicios cloud una manera de acceder a las capacidades de las que disfrutan las grandes para conseguir la flexibilidad, escalabilidad y la velocidad que precisan sus negocios.
Lo que hace poco tiempo se podía considerar una revolución en las empresas, a partir de los próximos años se irá consolidando, hasta el punto que en ese horizonte 2020, la nube será la regla a la hora de gestionar las empresas, y no la excepción. La nube es el habilitador clave para la transformación digital y la agilidad necesaria en este momento, para la próxima generación de aplicaciones digitales, que se construirán por encima de las arquitecturas TI tradicionales y en las que primará la movilidad y la conexión de diferentes fuentes de datos de gran tamaño, con la posibilidad de experimentar con nuevas ideas de negocio con bajo riesgo y coste.
El uso de los servicios cloud ya es habitual en Europa y las previsiones son que al menos el 45% del software y las infraestructuras TIC corporativas se prestarán desde el cloud para el 2020 y que más del 50% del gasto en este sentido procederá de fuera de las instalaciones de la empresa. En definitiva, podemos afirmar que hoy en día, la nube forma parte del ADN de las compañías y es un catalizador básico en sus negocios.
Estamos en un momento de evolución y consolidación del modelo cloud. Hemos pasado de modelos virtualizados, como primera fase de adopción, a estar trabajando en modelos híbridos donde la combinación de cloud pública y privada es un estándar y un modelo de gestión. Este modelo híbrido permite administrar de manera centralizada y homogénea los entornos y proporciona capacidad adicional para desborde, balanceo de carga, soluciones de contingencia, y todo ello con una gestión segura y flexible. El gran desafío para una empresa en su viaje por la transformación digital, a través de la nube, es la coherencia global del enfoque. Lo que significa que, el consumo y la integración de servicios a través de la nube (en todos sus sabores IaaS, PaaS y SaaS) tienen que estar equilibrados y alineados con el negocio. Un indicador de que los proyectos cloud no son solo una cuestión tecnológica se encuentra en el hecho de que el negocio toma cada vez más decisiones en este asunto.
Según Gartner, las claves tecnológicas de cara a 2018 vendrán marcadas por tendencias como Inteligencia Artificial, IoT, aplicaciones inteligentes, ‘digital twins’, edge computing, experiencia inmersiva, ciberseguridad o Blockchain, entre otras. En casi todas ellas, el cloud subyace como la clave que las potencia y las hace viables. Los sistemas cognitivos, disponibles en cloud, están aportando visibilidad al ‘dark data’. Blockchain aporta veracidad y fiabilidad a la era digital a través de cloud. La seguridad es clave en la nube, es más, podríamos decir que la nube facilitará la seguridad.
Gartner comenta que para el año 2018, el 25% del tráfico de datos corporativos fluirá directamente de los dispositivos móviles a la nube, evitando controles de seguridad empresariales tradicionales. Esto es un quebradero de cabeza para los departamentos de TI, quienes han de ocuparse de docenas de servicios de terceros alojados en diferentes nubes y proveedores de aplicaciones SaaS, lo que parece prácticamente imposible de manejar. Por esta razón, las organizaciones demandan a los proveedores de servicios en la nube la implementación de controles de seguridad adecuados, por lo menos equivalentes a los que se podrían implantar en su propio datacenter.
La transformación cultural está impulsando el viaje al cloud. Los desarrolladores, emprendedores y las organizaciones han de priorizar la experiencia del usuario y valorar la colaboración, la libertad para experimentar y un profundo enfoque empresarial.
El modelo TI tradicional tal y como lo conocemos está cambiando, y cada vez más las aplicaciones ya nacen en la nube, lo que implica un cambio de visión; cobran relevancia nuevas arquitecturas, nuevos modelos de desarrollo y paso a producción con metodologías como DevOps, y elementos como los microservicios o los contenedores que cada vez serán de mayor aplicación.
Aquí es donde está el gran reto y obviamente el grado de madurez de las compañías. El futuro pasa por ser capaces de ‘orquestar’ e integrar estos modelos de una forma natural y fácil. Parece algo sencillo pero llegar a alcanzar este modelo implica un grado de madurez importante de las empresas que lo adoptan o haber nacido ya como parte de este ecosistema.
Vivimos una clara consolidación de los modelos híbridos. Es más, me atrevería a decir sin equivocarme que empieza a haber un movimiento creciente de estos entornos híbridos hacia a lo que se denominan entornos ‘multicloud’. La ventaja ideal de estos entornos es que permiten a las compañías no estar ligadas a un único proveedor y obtener lo mejor de las soluciones cloud de cada uno. Sin embargo, la adopción de estos modelos, también tiene sus condicionantes como la complejidad de gestionar diferentes entornos que no siempre son interoperables, así como aspectos de conectividad entre ellos.
