La consultora considera que los modelos de trabajo continúan evolucionando, pero el 37% de los responsables de la toma de decisiones señala que los modelos de trabajo remotos e híbridos serán una parte integrada de las prácticas de trabajo aceptadas.
Según el análisis de IDC Future of Work – Spending Guide, las organizaciones gastarán casi 1 billón de dólares en el Futuro del Trabajo (FoW) en 2023, un aumento del 18,8% con respecto a 2022.
Tanto es así, que el trabajo híbrido, que en su día se pensó que era un medio temporal para permitir a las empresas continuar con sus operaciones comerciales durante la pandemia de COVID-19, se ha convertido en un pilar del panorama laboral mundial. Para permitir estos modelos de trabajo híbrido, las organizaciones están invirtiendo en una amplia gama de tecnologías y servicios para aumentar la productividad de la mano de obra y permitir nuevas formas de trabajo más ágiles.
IDC define el futuro del trabajo como un cambio fundamental en el modelo de trabajo hacia uno que fomente la colaboración hombre-máquina, permita nuevas habilidades y experiencias de los trabajadores, y apoye un lugar de trabajo físico reimaginado y un espacio de trabajo digital sin fronteras. El marco FoW de IDC está diseñado para ayudar a las organizaciones a estructurar sus estrategias de transformación del trabajo y a dar alcance a las iniciativas del futuro del trabajo. El marco adopta un enfoque holístico e integrado, que abarca tres pilares interrelacionados e interconectados: Aumento, Cultura y Espacio.

El espacio, que se centra en cómo el entorno de trabajo debe adaptarse para apoyar a la nueva fuerza de trabajo híbrida y la nueva cultura de trabajo, es el mayor de los tres pilares, y representa casi el 60% de todo el gasto FoW en 2023. El entorno de trabajo FoW debe ser inteligente y dinámico, conectado y seguro, e independiente de un lugar físico o de un momento específico del día. Las inversiones en tecnología deben permitir el acceso a los recursos corporativos y apoyar la colaboración para que todos los trabajadores puedan contribuir eficazmente, ya sea a tiempo completo o parcial, de forma local o remota, permanente o temporal, y ya sean humanos o máquinas.
El aumento, o habilitación y adopción del nuevo colaborador digital, será el segundo pilar más importante, con más de un tercio del gasto en FoW este año. Más de la mitad de este gasto se destinará al hardware y el software que los trabajadores necesitan para ser más productivos y, al mismo tiempo, permitirles la libertad de centrarse en actividades de mayor valor y en la innovación. Esto incluye tecnologías como la inteligencia artificial (IA), la robótica, la automatización de procesos y la realidad aumentada y virtual (RA/VR).
La cultura, que se centra en trabajadores comprometidos y capacitados alineados con las nuevas habilidades digitales, representará el 5% restante del gasto en FoW en 2023. Casi dos tercios del gasto en este pilar se destinarán a servicios de TI y servicios empresariales, ya que las organizaciones persiguen la transformación del trabajo a través de iniciativas en curso que requieren innovación continua y un nuevo tipo de agilidad organizativa.
Desde una perspectiva tecnológica, la mayor área de inversión en 2023 será el hardware, donde se espera que las empresas compren más de 300.000 millones de dólares en dispositivos Endpoint, hardware empresarial, infraestructura como servicio (IaaS) y robótica y drones. El software será la segunda mayor área de gasto este año, con más de 276.000 millones de dólares. Esto incluye inversiones en aplicaciones empresariales, contenidos y colaboración, análisis e inteligencia artificial, aplicaciones de recursos humanos, seguridad y desarrollo e implantación de software. El software también experimentará el crecimiento de gasto más rápido, con una CAGR del 21,7% durante el periodo de previsión de cinco años. Los servicios de TI y los servicios empresariales en apoyo de los esfuerzos de FoW serán más de 185 mil millones de dólares combinados en 2023.
«La inversión que las organizaciones están haciendo en tecnologías del Futuro del Trabajo en todo el mundo superará los 1,5 billones de dólares en 2026, con un crecimiento en Asia/Pacífico (excluyendo Japón y China) y China (RPC) que superará a otras regiones», dijo Karen Massey, directora de investigación de Customer Insights & Analysis. «La fabricación discreta, la fabricación por procesos y los servicios profesionales son los sectores más importantes, con algo más del 40% del gasto en TI de FoW. Si analizamos los 26 casos de uso de la Guía Mundial de Gasto en el Futuro del Trabajo de IDC, la robótica colaborativa, la gestión automatizada de clientes y el espacio de trabajo colaborativo interconectado encabezan la lista».
