Es clave la colaboración para luchar contra el cambio cilimátco, con la tecnología como principal aliado para reducir la huella de carbono y cumplir con los ODS de la ONU.
Los dramáticos sucesos acaecidos este verano son una prueba palpable de que cada vez es más urgente atajar los desafíos medioambientales que penden sobre nuestras cabezas. Es preciso cambiar los modelos productivos y la mentalidad social. “El modelo industrial de usar y tirar ha traído consigo una ingente cantidad de residuos cada vez más difícil de gestionar”, denuncia el Observatorio Mundial de los Residuos Electrónicos (OMRE). Según estima la Organización Mundial de la Salud, en el mundo se generan cerca de 50 millones de toneladas de basura electrónica, entre la que se pueden encontrar metales peligrosos y contaminantes para el medio ambiente, como, por ejemplo, el plomo, el cadmio o el mercurio. Pero este desastre va in crescendo, la OMRE calcula que se alcanzarán los 75 millones de toneladas de aquí a 2030.
“El exponencial aumento de las tasas de consumo de aparatos eléctricos y la llamada obsolescencia programada son algunos de los factores que han propiciado este incremento de la basura electrónica. La vida útil de los productos se ha acortado sustancialmente, a través de prácticas que reducen a propósito el tiempo de funcionamiento del producto y obligan a los usuarios a consumir más”, señala esta fuente.
Valga para nuestro alivio que el reacondicionamiento de equipos ha aumentado su popularidad y se ha convertido en una alternativa para alargar la vida de los aparatos digitales, reducir la basura electrónica y, sobre todo, disminuir las emisiones de gases de efecto invernadero.
“Las multinacionales están empezando a priorizar la calidad y la funcionalidad de estos productos, así como su menor coste y su contribución medioambiental. La filosofía del reacondicionado, ya consolidada en países como Reino Unido o Francia, se está abriendo paso también en nuestro país”, constata Jaume López, cofundador y director de desarrollo de negocio de MercadoIT.
Estamos en un momento de definición de los objetivos empresariales en función de los objetivos empresariales según los criterios mínimos ESG (Enviroment, Social and Corporate Governance), como respuesta a las crecientes exigencias de usuarios y clientes, gobiernos e incluso de entidades financieras. Desde que se estableciera la Agenda 2030, esta normativa se ha convertido en el marco principal para establecer acciones de sostenibilidad en nuestro país y, según el estudio ‘Contribución de las empresas españolas a la Estrategia de Desarrollo Sostenible 2030: una consulta integral’, el 85% de las empresas afirman estar ya hoy trabajando en alguno de los ámbitos de los 17 Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible (ODS), mientras que en el caso de las pymes y autónomos el porcentaje se reduce al 83% y 61%, respectivamente. Son las empresas del sector tecnológico (62,5%), petrolero y energético (60%) y la construcción (60%), las que más incluyen los ODS en sus memorias. Además de los motivos legislativos, las empresas pueden hallar en la sostenibilidad una oportunidad de negocio, que les permita obtener una diferenciación, y, por lo tanto, una ventaja competitiva. Según los datos de Fullstep, compañía especializada en la digitalización del proceso de compras, una de las ramas en la que más criterios y parámetros en torno a sostenibilidad empresarial se están implementando, es en la relacionada con la cadena de suministro. “Permite a las empresas crear unos vínculos más resistentes tanto con los clientes como con los proveedores, además de obtener una mayor seguridad, al evitar posibles crisis derivadas de la retirada de productos en el mercado, sanciones financieras o de incumplimiento de los proveedores, o, incluso, el agotamiento de los recursos”, explica Rosario Piazza.
Los ODS buscan reducir las emisiones de CO2, la reciclabilidad de los recursos, el respeto a la diversidad y la promoción de las minorías entre otros muchos fines. A la hora de establecer criterios de compras sostenibles, contar con un sistema de medición del desempeño y cumplimiento de estos criterios, así como con una ruta para la gestión del cambio tanto dentro como fuera de la empresa, son los principales retos para la creación de una cadena de suministro sostenible.
La Organización Internacional de Normalización publicó en 2017 la ISO 20400 con el objetivo de proporcionar orientación y reconocimiento a aquellas organizaciones que apuestan por la sostenibilidad en las adquisiciones, y el año 2020 y el 2021 están siendo claves para la sostenibilidad.
Los indicadores para medir el desarrollo de las políticas de sostenibilidad de las cadenas de suministro de las empresas en su relación con los proveedores son, el número de proveedores con mapa de riesgos definidos, con políticas de igualdad de género, proveedores sancionados en los últimos años por incumpliendo de la legislación social, laboral o ética, con plan de gestión de residuos, que emplean energía fuentes renovables, con plan de reducción de emisiones de CO2.
