Roberto Sánchez, secretario de Estado de Telecomunicaciones e Infraestructuras digitales, ha destacado la importancia de atraer inversión en infraestructura digital troncal en la presentación de la segunda edición del informe “Madrid, ‘hub digital’ del sur de Europa”.
En la presentación de la segunda edición del informe “Madrid, hub digital del sur de Europa”, Roberto Sánchez, secretario de Estado de Telecomunicaciones e Infraestructuras digitales, ha destacado que uno de los principales objetivos del Gobierno es convertir a España en “un polo de atracción de datos y de infraestructuras. En nuestro mundo emerge un nuevo punto de infraestructuras digitales cada vez más importante, como son las interconexiones transfronterizas y los centros de datos. Esto es una actividad creciente, porque el volumen de datos a transmitir cada vez mayor. La necesidad de almacenarlos, transmitirlos y procesarlos no para de crecer. Son como las fábricas del siglo XXI, depende gran parte de nuestra economía de ellos. Por eso, buscamos que estas nuevas factorías y que España sea la puerta de entrada en Europa para la conectividad”.
Roberto Sánchez ha pronunciado estas palabras en el transcurso de la presentación de segunda edición del informe “Madrid, hub digital del sur de Europa”, que analiza las inversiones en infraestructura digital de los últimos dos años, el impacto en el PIB y el empleo para la región, así como los pasos a desarrollar para consolidar a la región como hub digital del sur de Europa.
Declaraciones, la de aquel secretario de estado, que refrendan la evolución experimentada por el sector en estos dos últimos dos años. En concreto, el anterior estudio, lanzado en 2018, mostraba cómo el impacto en el PIB de Madrid se multiplicaba por doce por euro invertido en un escenario de estímulo de la inversión.
Es más, durante estos dos últimos años, se han producido cambios tales como la elección de Madrid, en particular, y de España en general de los grandes proveedores de Cloud pública para ampliar sus infraestructuras; el refuerzo de las interconexiones transfronterizas con nuevos cables submarinos; el aumento de la capacidad de los proveedores de centros de datos ante una mayor demanda; el Brexit, que ha redistribuido las inversiones; y el COVID-19, que se ha traducido en una aceleración en la transformación digital de la economía.
En consecuencia, y teniendo en cuenta la inversión anunciada por los proveedores de colocation en la región de Madrid, estaríamos ante una cifra acumulada de 680 millones de euros durante los próximos cinco años. Esto supondría sumar al PIB madrileño 8.283 millones de euros2 y la creación de 2.4892 empleos (FTE).
Por lo tanto, “que España sea un polo de atracción no es utopía, pues nuestras infraestructuras de conectividad son de las mejores de Europa. Además, contamos con red de fibra oscura que permite conexiones a alta velocidad, que se han incrementado un 20% en los últimos años”, ha destacado Roberto Sánchez.
A lo que hay que unir, por ejemplo, las nuevas oportunidades que surgen para acelerar el despliegue de 5G, ha precisado el secretario de estado. “Además, una de las cuestiones principales es que será básica en la latencia. Para que la baja latencia sea efectiva, el procesamiento de datos debe estar muy cerca. Por eso, el procesamiento de datos debe estar muy cerca, y eso es oportunidad para la nube de proximidad, para el Edge. Europa necesita más de 10 000 nodos de Edge desplegados para 2030. Tendremos que desplegar más de 1 000 nodos de Edge en nuestro país, y eso es una gran oportunidad para este sector”, ha apostillado.
Así, para consolidar la posición de Madrid y de España como hub digital, el informe “Madrid, hub digital del sur de Europa” incluye una serie de recomendaciones englobadas en tres grandes bloques: energía, administración pública y economía digital, tales como la necesidad de agilizar la concesión de licencias de construcción y actividad, o simplificar los procesos de aprobación y coordinación de los niveles administrativos; la necesidad de potenciar el talento para asegurar que los planes educativos generan las nuevas capacidades tecnológicas; e incluir la demanda de los centros de datos en la planificación de los proveedores de energía, entre otros compromisos.
De hecho, en opinión de Robert Assink, director general de Interxion en España, es necesario aunar y coordinar esfuerzos para conseguir que esa inversión llegue a España. “El concepto de hub digital dinamiza la economía, aumenta la competitividad y contribuye a un crecimiento económico estable. Atrae inversión, crea empleo de calidad facilita la creación de otras empresas. Al mismo tiempo, fomenta la innovación digital, el desarrollo de centros de excelencia e impulsa el uso de energía renovable. Además, como país y región tendremos una menor dependencia tecnológica”.
