El sector tecnológico es uno de los impulsores más importantes de la economía global, incluso durante la actual pandemia de coronavirus. De hecho, hay una mayor demanda de nuevas soluciones digitales y se prevé que ésta siga creciendo aún acabada la crisis.
Hoy en día el sector IT se caracteriza por balances sólidos y fuertes flujos de efectivo, a diferencia de lo que sucedía en el pasado. Desde una perspectiva global, las empresas de este sector se benefician del fuerte crecimiento de las ganancias. Esto se debe en gran medida al avance de la digitalización: la tecnología se ha convertido en un factor crucial para la competividad y el éxito en todas las industrias. Las empresas de todo el mundo se han dado cuenta de la importancia de los datos y, en consecuencia, las inversiones en soluciones de software, cloud, big data e inteligencia artificial están aumentando a nivel mundial.
La crisis actual está actuando como un acelerador: las mejoras en la eficiencia y la reducción de costes son cada vez más importantes, y las empresas están invirtiendo cada vez más en la digitalización. Sin embargo, el nivel de inversión varía mucho según la industria. Actualmente, la inversión en soluciones en la nube es la que más peso tiene. En los últimos años, el uso de servicios en la nube ya ha aumentado considerablemente, de modo que más del 70% de todos los servicios de IT utilizan tecnologías en la nube. Es probable que la tendencia se haya intensificado aún más en estos momentos con el aumento del trabajo remoto y la educación a distancia. La penetración global estimada de estos servicios se sitúa entre 10 y 20%, lo que demuestra el potencial de crecimiento futuro de este mercado.
Uno de los principales cambios en los últimos años ha sido la transición hacia el modelo basado en suscripción. Ya estamos familiarizados con este modelo de negocio desde hace mucho tiempo, con ejemplos como las suscripciones a periódicos o membresías. En el mundo digital, sin embargo, el modelo es relativamente nuevo. A gran escala, ha surgido con el Software as a Service (SaaS). Por lo general, se paga una tarifa mensual por usuario, a la que se puede aplicar una tarifa adicional en caso de superar el volumen de datos utilizados. Las ventajas para las empresas son ganancias constantes, un flujo de efectivo estable y una lealtad, incluso dependencia, de los clientes a largo plazo. De hecho, para algunas compañías de software el 90% de sus ingresos son recurrentes. Esto es particularmente interesante para los inversores en momentos en que la situación económica es incierta.
Otro mercado en crecimiento es el de la Inteligencia Artificial (IA). La AI implica aprendizaje independiente, identificación y corrección de errores, y por eso, es innovador para muchos sectores, incluidos los asistentes virtuales cognitivos, robótica, dispositivos inteligentes, análisis automatizados, procesamiento de imágenes y diagnóstico médico.
En general, las empresas de tecnología ofrecen buenas oportunidades de inversión. El sector registra unos balances sólidos de forma general y altas tasas de crecimiento, lo que justifica valoraciones más altas. Dentro de este sector, destaca el área del software, con un crecimiento alto y escalable debido a la creciente tendencia de inversiones en la transformación digital. Gracias a esto, ofrece a sus inversores flujos de efectivo estables incluso en tiempos de incertidumbre.
