Las tendencias tecnológicas alineadas con las prioridades de sostenibilidad han atraído la mayor inversión en los últimos tres años.
McKinsey Technology Council ha elaborado el informe ‘¿Qué tendencias tecnológicas son más importantes para las empresas en 2022?‘, en el que presenta las 14 tendencias tecnológicas más importantes que se están desarrollando en la actualidad y se identifican los principales sectores en los que podrían aplicarse para crear mayores oportunidades de negocio, remodelar los mercados, impulsar la productividad, estimular el crecimiento económico y mejorar la calidad de vida de las personas. Las 14 tendencias identificadas se clasifican en base a cuatro índices: interés, innovación, inversión y adopción en más de 20 industrias a nivel global. El informe detalla cada una de las tendencias en base a la aplicación, casos de uso innovadores, diferencias con tecnologías ya existentes, disrupciones que facilitará, así como los beneficios y riesgos que conllevará.
Entre los principales resultados del informe se ha identificado que la IA aplicada es una de las tendencias más generalizadas, en comparación con otras tendencias tecnológicas. En este sentido, a través del aprendizaje automático (ML) o el procesamiento del lenguaje natural, permitirá utilizar los datos necesarios para automatizar actividades y mejorar la toma de decisiones. Según los resultados, se trata de la tendencia más innovadora del estudio, y una de las cuatro que más interés ha generado desde 2018, en términos de cobertura de noticias y consultas en motores de búsqueda.
“Las tendencias tecnológicas tendrán un impacto masivo en todos los sectores de la economía. Además, surgirán nuevas oportunidades de combinarlas y crear nuevas posibilidades de crecimiento sostenible”, asegura Carlos Sánchez Altable, socio de McKinsey & Company en España.
Por su parte, las tendencias tecnológicas alineadas con las prioridades de sostenibilidad, como son las soluciones energéticas, como la energía solar y la eólica; los combustibles sostenibles, como el hidrógeno; los sistemas de baterías de larga duración y las redes inteligentes, han atraído la mayor inversión en los últimos tres años, y muestran un alto impacto en 6 o más industrias. Al mismo tiempo, se prevé que las inversiones anuales en el suministro y la producción de energía podrían duplicarse de aquí a 2035, alcanzando aproximadamente 1,5 billones de dólares. A su vez, podrían inclinarse cada vez más hacia tecnologías no fósiles y de descarbonización. En general, la transición hacia el futuro de la energía limpia provocaría profundos cambios en los sectores de producción y consumo de energía.
Por otro lado, el informe recoge que las tecnologías autónomas, conectadas, eléctricas e inteligentes (ACES), asociadas con el futuro de la movilidad, casi han duplicado las métricas de inversión, interés e innovación en los últimos tres años, y se trata de una apuesta que podría mejorar la eficiencia y la sostenibilidad del transporte terrestre y aéreo de personas y mercancías. Por su parte, el futuro del consumo sostenible se centrará en el uso de bienes y servicios que se producen con un impacto medioambiental mínimo mediante el uso de tecnologías con bajas emisiones de carbono y materiales sostenibles, según el análisis. Se trata de una tendencia con gran adopción en los diferentes sectores de la economía, ya que ha demostrado tener un alto impacto en 16 industrias analizadas, como la aviación, la automoción y el ensamblaje, la agricultura y la construcción, entre otras.
Como es de prever, los sectores en los que más impactarán las tendencias alineadas con las prioridades de sostenibilidad son el de energía eléctrica, gas natural, petróleo y gas, y el público y social. Con un menor impacto, los más beneficiados por ello serán el sector de la automoción y el montaje, la construcción y los metales, así como la minería.
Otra tendencia tecnológica relevante habla sobre las últimas herramientas tecnológicas de conectividad avanzada, que dotarán a las redes de una mayor cobertura geográfica, una menor latencia y una menor demanda de energía. Estas nuevas herramientas mejorarán la experiencia del usuario y tendrán un alto impacto en más de 12 sectores, como la movilidad, la sanidad y la fabricación, entre otros. Otra de las tendencias principales, aprovecha los avances en biología combinados con las innovaciones en tecnología digital para diseñar el futuro de la bioingeniería. Tal y como demuestran los resultados del informe, unos 400 casos de uso de la bioingeniería, casi todos ellos científicamente viables, podrían tener un impacto económico de entre 2 y 4 billones de dólares al año entre 2030 y 2040.
Por otro lado, la Web3 pretende ser una nueva manera de concebir Internet, que descentralizará su autoridad y la redistribuirá a los usuarios, dotándoles de un mayor control sobre cómo se monetizan sus datos personales y una mayor propiedad de los activos digitales. También, la creación de herramientas técnicas capaces de industrializar el ‘machine learning’ (aprendizaje automático) permitirá a las empresas pasar de proyectos piloto a productos empresariales viables, resolver fallos durante la producción y superar los límites de capacidad y productividad de los equipos humanos.
Las plataformas en la nube estarán dotadas de mayores capacidades de computación y almacenamiento
Otra de las tendencias destacadas por el informe tiene que ver con las tecnologías de realidad inmersiva. A través de varios niveles de inmersión, proporcionados por la realidad aumentada (RA), la realidad virtual (RV) y la realidad mixta (RM), utilizarán la computación espacial para interpretar el espacio físico y simular objetos y personas del mundo real, permitiendo la interacción en mundos virtuales. Además, las plataformas en la nube serán otra tendencia para las compañías, y estarán dotadas de mayores capacidades de computación y almacenamiento, ofreciendo una serie de servicios cada vez más amplios y dirigidos a los usuarios finales.
Las tecnologías de la arquitectura de confianza (trust architecture) e identidad digital también resaltan en el ranking, ya que permitirán a las organizaciones gestionar los riesgos tecnológicos y de datos, acelerar la innovación y proteger los activos. Según los datos del informe, la inversión en este tipo de tecnologías se ha duplicado desde 2018, pasando de 17.000 millones de dólares a los 34.000 millones invertidos en 2021.
“El informe también destaca tendencias como el uso de las tecnologías espaciales, las tecnologías cuánticas y las de nueva generación. No se trata de identificar las tendencias más novedosas, sino de saber cuáles son las que atraen el mayor volumen de inversión, las que producen la mayor cantidad de solicitudes de patentes y las que son capaces de remodelar los mercados y estimular el crecimiento económico de las compañías”, finaliza Sánchez Altable.
