En 1956, el profesor de Matemáticas de la Universidad de Dartmouth John McCarthy concibió el término inteligencia artificial como “la ciencia e ingenio de hacer máquinas inteligentes”. Hoy en día, la inteligencia artificial (IA) es una tecnología facilitadora que está permitiendo que las organizaciones, ya sean instituciones, empresas u otros organismos, optimicen sus procesos, costes innecesarios, ahorren en recursos como tiempo y dinero y creen nuevos modelos de negocio, ente otros.
Esta tecnología tiene un vínculo estrecho con la robotización y, como decía el profesor McCarthy, tiene la habilidad de comportarse como los seres humanos en términos de razonamiento, capacidad de tomar decisiones y aprendizaje.
La inteligencia artificial está compuesta por dos tipos de aprendizaje: el aprendizaje automático, que le proporciona la capacidad de aprender de los datos y adaptarse a ellos sin depender de la intervención humana; y el aprendizaje profundo (o deep learning), compuesto por redes neuronales, que permite a las máquinas no tener una instrucción limitada, sino aprender de su propia experiencia mientras mejoran su rendimiento, según se refleja en los informes sectoriales 5G de Vodafone Business.
¿Qué posibilidades está generando la IA en las organizaciones? Esta tecnología está ayudando a crear nuevos modelos de negocio que impactan directamente en la cuenta de resultados, abriendo nuevos caminos en ámbitos sociales o de sostenibilidad.
En primer lugar, la inteligencia artificial está siendo clave para desarrollar nuevos mundos virtuales y digitales y grandes compañías están dando el paso para reinventarse y adaptarse a uno de los grandes elementos que ya forman parte del futuro inmediato: el metaverso. Hablamos en realidad de distintos metaversos, y en concreto de uno empresarial, en el que las compañías tienen la posibilidad de desarrollar nuevos modelos de negocio, algunos que ni siquiera somos capaces de imaginar hoy en día. Por poner un ejemplo, el propio espacio en los metaversos actuales es limitado, por lo que está empezando a generarse un mercado inmobiliario virtual que supone un gran atractivo para los inversores, y en el que ya que es posible comprar, vender y alquilar espacios concretos y privilegiados dentro de cada plataforma. Esto permite a las empresas desarrollar estrategias de venta de nuevos productos o servicios completamente disruptivas, permitiendo trasladar modelos de negocio a este nuevo mundo virtual.
En segundo lugar, la IA está ayudando a hacer más sostenibles las organizaciones, dando pie a nuevos procesos en los que la eficiencia energética y el respeto por el medioambiente son clave para el propio desarrollo del negocio. Desde tecnologías para medir la presencia de personas en localizaciones con el fin de pronosticar la iluminación necesaria de las calles, a sistemas predictivos de mantenimiento que ayudan a prevenir problemas técnicos en instalaciones ahorrando energía, la implementación de la IA permite ahorrar costes y optimizar procesos clave, teniendo importantes impactos positivos en el planeta y en el negocio.
Por último, la IA está potenciando el lado más social y ético de compañías y organizaciones al generar importantes beneficios sociales, como la mejora de la salud a través de distintos usos y aplicaciones capaces de prevenir, diagnosticar, tratar enfermedades. Así, la IA posibilita detecciones más tempranas de enfermedades raras -mayoritariamente en niños- gracias al desarrollo de algoritmos capaces de nutrirse de forma automática con información y datos que médicos, pacientes, familiares, estudios e informes médicos están proporcionando, unificándolos y ordenándolos de forma inteligente para ayudar al proceso de diagnóstico y a un mejor tratamiento. Más del 80% de las enfermedades raras no se diagnostica o tarda 5 años o más, y esto puede suponer una auténtica revolución en la prevención sanitaria.
En definitiva, la IA favorece la aparición de negocios más inteligentes, rentables y mejor gestionados que, además de contribuir de forma muy positiva a la economía, están generando un impacto social y ambiental positivo. El análisis y la gestión estratégica de los datos, el oro del siglo XXI, están haciendo posible que se optimicen recursos y se reduzca el desperdicio energético gracias a una toma de decisiones más formada e informada, cumpliendo con los retos que exige la transición energética. Y para que todo esto funcione, es esencial una mayor colaboración entre compañías, instituciones y expertos, que favorezca el desarrollo de ecosistemas de innovación que hagan posible que negocio, medioambiente y ética se conjuguen para dar pasos hacia un mundo mejor.
