En todo el mundo, desafíos demográficos sin precedentes. La tecnología se propone como una panacea, pero sin una planificación e implementación adecuadas, según Gartner. La consultora ha identificado seis prioridades clave para que los CIO se centren en el área de salud:
1- Mejorar las estadísticas financieras para alinear mejor las capacidades de TI
«Muchas organizaciones de salud carecen de visibilidad sobre la realidad de su impacto financiero», dijo el Sr. Jones. «Además, a menudo carecen de las capacidades maduras de arquitectura empresarial necesarias para identificar y diseñar soluciones que puedan mejorar los resultados clínicos y financieros».
Gartner recomienda que el CIO trabaje muy cerca con el CFO y el Director Médico (CMO). Los tres pueden comenzar a identificar y lanzar metodologías específicas de contabilidad de costos y adopción de sistemas. Si tiene éxito, el CIO debe buscar escalar la organización.
2. Uso de Enterprise Architecture para planificar una era del sistema de salud digital en tiempo real
A medida que la tecnología se vuelve más crítica para el éxito de la atención médica, se vuelve más difícil de administrar. «Las encuestas de Gartner muestran que los proveedores de servicios de salud carecen de una función de arquitectura empresarial madura tienen más dificultades para gestionar la transición a arquitecturas comerciales digitales, incluido el sistema de salud en tiempo real», afirma Jones. También aconseja a los CIO que trabajen con gerentes y líderes clínicos para crear estrategias de alto nivel que logren el estado futuro deseado de una organización habilitada para sistemas de salud en tiempo real.
3. Establecer indicadores clave de rendimiento para medir el progreso digital
La era digital requiere nuevas métricas para evaluar el rendimiento, pero muchas organizaciones de atención médica no cuentan con indicadores clave de rendimiento (KPI) adecuados. «Comience instituyendo nuevos KPI digitales que reflejen los esfuerzos de optimización y transformación», dijo el Sr. Jones. «También métricas complementarias y de mejora del rendimiento para garantizar que los esfuerzos se centren en el paciente y puedan vincularse a resultados de salud positivos».
4. Racionalizar las carteras de aplicaciones para crear un nuevo valor digital
La investigación de Gartner muestra que muchos proveedores de servicios de salud no se están dando cuenta del valor total de la tecnología existente, como los registros electrónicos de salud (EHR) y la telemedicina. Por lo tanto, el primer paso es identificar y evaluar el valor que cada aplicación proporciona dentro de la organización.
«Una vez que se completa la evaluación, los CIO pueden optimizar su cartera de aplicaciones mejorando la TI, mejorando los costos conjuntos de TI y comerciales, y permitiendo la innovación empresarial», asegura Jones y añde «Asegúrese de comunicarse con las partes interesadas para responder positivamente a las decisiones».
5. Crear nuevas formas de evaluar los registros electrónicos de salud
El ochenta por ciento de los CIO de atención médica en la Encuesta de la Agenda CIO de 2018 de Gartner tuvieron sus EHR informados como altos, y el 50 por ciento informaron retornos moderados o menores. Jones asegura que «Él recomienda que las organizaciones adopten una mentalidad de mejora continua con sus EHR. Deberían crear procesos y gobernanza para todas las partes interesadas a fin de ayudarlos a medir el valor del ciclo de vida de la HCE de una manera que incluya el impacto de los esfuerzos de remediación».
6. Dominar habilidades suaves para impulsar el cambio de forma más efectiva
Ofrecer iniciativas digitales en un entorno de salud limitado y con restricciones políticas no solo depende de tener una planificación de TI adecuada. También se vincula con el liderazgo de los líderes de TI para inspirar y persuadir.
