Según un reciente estudio de Aruba, las empresas de EMEA tienen que aprender a aprovechar los datos, con el problema añadido de que los sistemas se ven presionados por la creciente demanda.
El informe señala que la mayoría están frustrados por las deficiencias que se encuentran a la hora de gestionar los datos. Con respecto a los mayores retos a los que se están enfrentando, el 61% de los participantes puso el foco en “no tener el control total de los datos de nuestra compañía”, el 51% se refirió a no ser capaz de “analizar los datos de forma holística” y un 52% a “no ser capaces de traducir los datos en información procesable”.
El estudio Data to Decisions: A Rulebook to Unlock the Power of your Data de Aruba desvela los seis pasos clave que ayudarían a las organizaciones a lograr un mayor aprovechamiento de los datos, y que se centran en los siguientes aspectos:
Los encuestados reconocen el potencial de los datos para hacer que sus empresas sean más eficientes, innovadoras y centradas en el cliente. Destacaron la capacidad de ofrecer mejores experiencias a los clientes (60%), impulsar las eficiencias (38%) y fomentar la innovación de los productos (35%) como algunas de las oportunidades más relevantes que se derivan de una mejor gestión de los datos.
Sin embargo, también destacaron que las deficiencias en los sistemas e infraestructuras existentes podrían limitar esas oportunidades. Cuando se les preguntó qué tareas les gustaría poder hacer con los datos, que actualmente no pueden, afirmaron que sus prioridades eran mejorar la seguridad (63%), realizar más análisis en tiempo real (55%), tomar más decisiones basadas en los datos (55%) y conectar mejor los datos con las funciones principales del negocio (45%).
La falta de aptitudes y conocimientos relevantes en las empresas es otra preocupación importante. Más de un tercio de los encuestados afirmaron que “no disponer de las habilidades necesarias para manejar la explosión de datos” era una de sus principales preocupaciones. No obstante, el mayor temor de los encuestados es que «nuestros empleados no se alineen con las políticas de datos», destacado por el 28%.
Con el objetivo de mejorar las habilidades y conocimientos en torno a los datos, el informe recomienda que las compañías pongan el foco en mejorar la capacitación de sus empleados con un profundo conocimiento del sector, contratando a un director de datos con la responsabilidad específica de organizar y extraer el valor de los mismos, y creando grupos de gobernanza que incluyan a los responsables en la toma de decisiones de todas las áreas de negocio, garantizando así que sus necesidades se vean reflejadas en la gestión y estrategia de datos.
“Muchos de los conocimientos más valiosos ya están dentro de la empresa”, afirma el colaborador del informe y filósofo tecnológico, Tom Chatfield. «Capacitar a sus empleados para que puedan mantener conversaciones con los informáticos y utilizar las APIs suele ser mucho más importante que pedirle a un doctor en ciencias que se familiarice rápidamente con un nuevo sector”.
Además de estar en la cima de la lista de deseos de los responsables de TI que participaron en el estudio, la seguridad de los datos es uno de sus mayores temores para el futuro. Dos de las tres principales preocupaciones tienen relación con la seguridad y el cumplimiento normativo: un 21% teme la posibilidad de ser hackeado y otro 12% que su organización sea multada en virtud del Reglamento General de Protección de Datos (GDPR).
El informe realiza diversas recomendaciones en la mejora de la seguridad, incluyendo que las organizaciones deberían clasificar los datos de acuerdo a los diferentes niveles de riesgo, creando un plan de contingencia para cuando se produzcan brechas en los mismos, y utilizar la formación basada en escenarios reales para mejorar el conocimiento de los empleados sobre las amenazas.
“Los empleados son el ultimo componente a considerar en temas de seguridad”, expone el futurista y colaborador del informe, Andrew Grill. “Puedes disponer de los mejores firewalls y el mejor VPN, pero si alguien pega el archivo de la contraseña en su Gmail y es hackeado, todo se vendría abajo”.
Morten Illum, vicepresidente de EMEA en Aruba, concluye: “Cada empresa comprende las oportunidades que tienen los datos para impulsar la innovación, perfeccionar el desarrollo de productos y transformar las experiencias de los empleados y los clientes. A medida que los datos y las decisiones se mueven al lugar donde se genera toda la información (Edge), ahora más que nunca las empresas necesitan asegurar que sus sistemas y procesos están listos para afrontarlo. al y como el estudio sostiene, eso significa que las organizaciones necesitan mejorar las habilidades y formar a su equipo, poner en marcha estructuras de gobierno efectivas y centrarse implacablemente en la seguridad de los datos. La actual pandemia global hace que esto sea aún más relevante, al mismo tiempo que el teletrabajo se convierte en la nueva realidad. Sin embargo, la conexión Wi-Fi de los consumidores carece de características de seguridad que son clave en un momento en el que los ataques de ciberseguridad, dirigidos a los individuos, están aumentando”.
