Las empresas han ido tomando nota en los últimos tiempos de la necesidad de actualizarse tecnológicamente y adaptarse a los nuevos tiempos. Así se deduce del último informe Red Hat Global Customer Tech Outlook. Esta investigación ha indagado en las opiniones de 870 clientes de Red Hat para elaborar una guía del estado actual del entorno empresarial y de las previsiones para el próximo año.
Entre las varias claves que se pueden distinguir en el documento, el auge de los proyectos de transformación digital es una de las destacadas. En los últimos dos años se ha pasado de que casi uno de cada tres no tuviese planes en este sentido —el 32% en 2018— a que fuesen menos de uno de cada diez, un 9% en 2020. Los que están en algún punto del proceso de evolución tecnológica han crecido del 31% al 59% en el mismo arco de tiempo.
De este último porcentaje, un 34% dice estar empleando ya nuevas herramientas y procesos, mientras que el 25% está empezando a adoptarlas. Hay además un 12% que dice estar «liderando el mercado a través de la innovación». Junto al 9% que no tiene planes, hay otro 9% que está en una fase inicial de investigación.
En cuanto a las prioridades de inversión, la principal es optimizar la TI existente, seguida por la infraestructura cloud. Esto último se vincula con otro de los aspectos que pone de relieve Red Hat: la relevancia de la nube híbrida. Un 31% de organizaciones a nivel global describe así su estrategia cloud, mientras que el 21% mantiene un enfoque centrado en la nube privada. El 17% todavía está en fase de establecimiento de su infraestructura cloud. Con menor relevancia se observan otras alternativas: un 8% dice optar por una única nube pública; un 6%, por el multicloud; y apenas el 4% indica apostar por una estrategia combinada en la que se priorice la nube pública. El 12% no tiene ninguna perspectiva en cloud.
Todavía se detectan, sin embargo, barreras a la transformación digital. La principal es la existencia de tecnología heredada, seguida por los límites a la automatización que imponen procesos y operaciones manuales que no se están o no se pueden actualizar. Tiene también especial importancia la falta de personal especializado o de las habilidades necesarias para implementar un proceso de digitalización exitoso, que se relaciona con las otras para dibujar un cierto atraso tanto a nivel tecnológico como de personal.
La investigación señala la inteligencia artificial y el machine learning como prioridades para las organizaciones. Son las principales tecnologías emergentes que las personas participantes en el informe están valorando implementar en los próximos doce meses —o están ya en ello—. Así lo señalan un 30% de empresas, frente al 21% que integra en sus planes el FaaS —Function-as-a-service— o computación sin servidor y al 19% que apuntan al IoT. En cuarto lugar aparece, con el 12%, está el blockchain, que el año pasado era la tecnología más citada.
En relación a la integración de una cultura de organización abierta, un 42% están en alguna fase de su implementación —la mayoría, el 20%, en los primeros pasos de adopción de nuevos procesos—. Un 29% muestra, sin embargo, que no tiene ningún tipo de planes para evolucionar a este modelo empresarial y un 12% se muestra, todavía, inseguro.
