Sin embargo, según Aruba ahora que la digitalización de los entornos de trabajo es una prioridad para negocios de todos los tamaños, éstos han de asegurarse de contar con las habilidades necesarias y las herramientas de gestión de seguridad adecuadas para manejar el cambio, o correrán el riesgo de quedarse atrás frente a sus competidores.

El informe ‘The Hidden Middle’, que ha sido elaborado para ver cómo las medianas empresas en todo en mundo están adoptando la tecnología en sus lugares de trabajo, a través de las repuestas de más de 2.700 empleados en puestos directivos y no directivos de negocios medianos, revela algunas tendencias clave, como:
· Las empresas medianas son las que utilizan la tecnología en el lugar de trabajo de forma más activa – Casi dos tercios (el 63%) de encuestados de empresas medianas calificaron la “elección de tecnología, aplicaciones y soporte TI” en su organización como buena o muy buena, comparado con el 53% de empleados de empresas más grandes. Los negocios medianos también están por delante de la competencia en cuanto a adopción de tecnologías audiovisuales avanzadas (como altavoces activados por voz), con una media del 27% en empresas medianas, en comparación con el 16% de las pequeñas empresas y el 22% de las grandes corporaciones.
· Están poniendo un gran foco en la nube – Aproximadamente una cuarta parte (24%) de los encuestados afirmaron que su compañía había invertido en software de almacenamiento en la nube en los últimos 12 meses, en comparación con el 17% de los empleados de grandes empresas. En la digitalización de los entornos de trabajo, las compañías medianas también parecen estar dando prioridad al software de seguridad cibernética: con un 39% de las inversiones registradas en esta área en el último año, en comparación con el 31% de las grandes empresas.
· Y, como resultado, están ofreciendo un mejor ambiente de trabajo – Teniendo en cuenta su gran compromiso con las nuevas tecnologías, los empleados de empresas medianas tienen una probabilidad significativamente mayor (66%) de calificar su “entorno en el trabajo” como bueno o muy bueno en comparación con los de las empresas más grandes (57%). Los negocios medianos también son más ágiles cuando se trata de ofrecer flexibilidad para que los empleados utilicen dispositivos personales en el trabajo: el 72% de los empleados de compañías medianas tienen permiso para hacerlo, en comparación con el 53% de los que trabajan para grandes corporaciones.
· Pero se demanda una gestión más sólida para manejar las inversiones tecnológicas – Más de tres cuartos (77%) de los encuestados de empresas medianas acordaron o estuvieron de acuerdo en que “si no se gestiona correctamente la implantación de nuevas tecnologías, se podría dañar la moral de los empleados”; mientras que el 78% estuvo de acuerdo en que la gestión y el control que su organización tenía de los dispositivos conectados que están en uso podría mejorarse.
Un camino por recorrer arriesgado
Con dos tercios de los empleados de compañías medianas (66%) afirmando que su organización estaba “en riesgo de quedarse atrás frente a sus competidores” al no implementar nuevas tecnologías, la presión para mantener el ritmo es clara, pero también lo son los riesgos asociados a esa implementación.
A pesar de ser conscientes de la ciberseguridad de su organización, casi tres cuartos (74%) de los encuestados dijeron que habían asumido riesgos con los datos de la compañía en el último año. Además, menos de la mitad (48%) afirma que la seguridad era responsabilidad de “todos los empleados”, en comparación con las dos terceras partes de quienes trabajan para compañías grandes (66%).
Según Morten Illum, vicepresidente de EMEA en HPE Aruba: “A medida que la adopción y la integración de la tecnología se convierten en una prioridad mayor en todo el espectro corporativo, las empresas medianas tienen una oportunidad diferente. Aunque a menudo se olvida en la conversación sobre la transformación digital, centrada normalmente en cómo las grandes empresas están luchando para adaptarse, o cómo las pequeñas empresas están aprovechando la capacidad de escalar, son las medianas empresas y sus empleados los que muestran la agilidad y la voluntad de hacer un mejor uso de la tecnología y los que tienen una mejor comprensión de las oportunidades que conlleva. La clave es permitir que lo hagan, lo que supone un cierto grado de riesgo en la seguridad”.
“El éxito del lugar de trabajo digital depende de la implementación práctica de la tecnología, que se refiere tanto de la experiencia del usuario como a la infraestructura técnica. Para que las empresas medianas se den cuenta del valor total de sus inversiones y eliminen los riesgos, sus directivos deben asegurarse de que los empleados reciban la formación y el apoyo necesarios para hacer un uso productivo y seguro de las nuevas herramientas”.
