Miguel Ángel Martos, director general de Zscaler para España y Portugal, analiza el mercado actual de la ciberseguridad y cómo se ha adaptado su compañía a la pandemia de coronavirus.
Se incorporó a Zscaler a mediados de marzo, justo cuando estalla la pandemia de coronavirus en Europa. Y lo hizo con los objetivos de abrir nuevos mercados y de expandir a la compañía en España. ¿Han cambiado estos objetivos debido a la crisis sanitaria y económica?
Efectivamente, me incorporé en pleno confinamiento. Como cualquier empresa, Zscaler adoptó una posición de precaución. En España somos 13 personas, y el 80% del equipo se ha incorporado en esta época. Pero, siendo una compañía creada en la nube y para protegerla, el onboarding ha sido muy sencillo. De un día para otro hemos estado plenamente operativos trabajando desde casa. Por ello, los objetivos no cambian. Somos una compañía que va a facturar unos 500 millones de dólares a nivel global y seguimos siendo muy ambiciosos. Queremos seguir creciendo y expandiendo nuestros productos. Como ejemplo de ello, recientemente hemos adquirido dos empresas orientadas a la protección de activos digitales en la nube. Este crecimiento tiene su eco en España, vamos a potenciar este momento en que las empresas buscan migrar a cloud. El coronavirus ha acelerado este movimiento de transformación, además de la velocidad, ha añadido una necesidad más estricta de continuidad de negocio. Zscaler se ha visto favorecida en cuanto a su modelo de negocio. En conclusión, los objetivos siguen inalterables, seguimos creciendo y contratando personas.
¿Ha sido la nube la gran beneficiada por el coronavirus? ¿Cuáles han sido las demandas básicas de los clientes?
Si observas lo que está ocurriendo en las organizaciones se puede comprobar que muchas están pasando de adquirir ciertos elementos de TI a pasar a consumirlos como servicio o a construir redes definidas por software. Esta transformación pasa de comprar y construir a usar y suscribir. Eso no había estado ocurriendo de una manera clara en el mundo de la ciberseguridad. En algunos casos ha llegado a ser un elemento que ha evitado la aceleración de la digitalización. Zscaler es una compañía de seguridad que nace en la nube para proteger la nube y lo hacecon una plataforma holística con todos los requerimientos de una empresa tanto desde dentro como desde fuera de sus redes. Esto es lo que se conoce como SASE (Secure Access Service Edge) en el mercado. Además, ofrecemos esta adopción de seguridad en un modelo de suscripción. Dentro de este modo, los clientes nos han pedido proteger todo este movimiento de arquitecturas on-premise hacia la nube. El perímetro ha desaparecido y hay que adoptar mecanismos flexibles y ubicuos para proteger a los usuarios y todos sus elementos de comunicación. También se ha demandado mucho la filosofía Zero Trust, es decir, un modelo en el que garantizamos acceso a las aplicaciones del cliente sin necesidad de desplegar equipos físicos en la ubicación del cliente.
En estos meses hemos vivido tres escenarios distintos; el primero, previo a la pandemia en el que la digitalización de las empresas continuaba con un ritmo monótono; un segundo, durante la crisis, en el que se ha acelerado toda la transformación hacia la nube; y ahora, nos movemos en un mundo híbrido en el que se combinará la vuelta a los sistemas centrales de las oficinas con el teletrabajo. ¿Qué dispone Zscaler para este escenario híbrido?
Todo tiene un hilo conductor, el proceso de transformación digital no varía. Aquellas empresas que ya adoptaron mecanismos de agilidad se han dado cuenta, a la hora de adaptarse a la pandemia, de que estaban en el camino adecuado. Para seguir liderando este movimiento, Zscaler se prepara para los cambios. Somos una empresa de nube que se preocupa de la garantizar la experiencia de uso y de resolver las necesidades de nuestros usuarios. Para ello, nuestra red soporta más de 100 billones de transacciones al día. Esto no se ha construido de la noche a la mañana, y por ello, estamos preparados para un momento como este. Para esta realidad híbrida, que muchas veces no puede ser planificada debido a la situación sanitaria, hemos adoptado un modelo Zero Trust; tratamos igual a los usuarios estén dentro o fuera de las redes corporativas y garantizando el acceso seguro. Esto nos facilita la adaptación; no nos lleva ninguna complejidad tecnológica esta nueva realidad.
Esta pandemia ha supuesto un examen a la madurez en ciberseguridad de las compañías ¿Han aprobado?
Sí, su nivel ha sido muy alto. Y no solo en ciberseguridad, sino en general en TI. Yo me siento orgulloso al comprobar que en estos meses de confinamiento las empresas han seguido operando por haberse anticipado para adaptarse a estos cambios. Es cierto también que la irrupción de la pandemia ha supuesto un cambio brusco, con muchos desafíos para el teletrabajo. Por ejemplo, hemos notado un crecimiento del 3.000% en campañas de ataques a terminales móviles. Pero las empresas han reaccionado bien y no han tenido grandes problemas a la hora de operar. Se ha favorecido la aceleración de procesos que ya estaban en marcha. Y la ciberseguridad se ha consolidado de cara al futuro. No son pocos los clientes que han decidido que este mecanismo de transformación les va a ayudar a adoptar una postura de seguridad totalmente diferente, basada en el consumo y la suscripción y que se adapta a los demás entornos de TI.
Existe una competencia muy nutrida en el mercado, que tiende a la consolidación y a las adquisiciones. ¿Cuáles son los retos de abrir mercados en nuevas geografías?
