EAE Business School publica un estudio sobre IoT, su implantación y su repercusión energética.
En 2023, el 66% de la población mundial será internauta y habrá 29.300 millones de dispositivos conectados. Una cifra que en España será del 77% de la población (36,5 millones de internautas) y habrá 350 millones de dispositivos conectados. Las comunidades autónomas con mayor número de dispositivos conectados son Madrid (19,26%), Cataluña (15,08%) y Baleares (12,01%), pero también destacan Comunidad Valenciana (10,69%) y Andalucía (9,51%).
En nuestro país, en 2021, un 15% de los hogares disponían de sistemas de control online de la iluminación y más de un 14% controlaba a través de Internet las cámaras o sistemas de seguridad de su hogar. La apertura de puertas remotas y las persianas domóticas son los dispositivos que menos demanda tienen entre los españoles.
Estos datos forman parte del estudio Internet de las cosas: La tecnología como aliada de la sostenibilidad, elaborado por EAE Business School. El documento también desvela que los sectores que mayor uso generen de IoT y que más lo adoptan para la mejora y el desarrollo de sus procesos son los relacionados con la optimización de operaciones, con la productividad humana y con la salud. “En estos campos, es donde se producen las mayores innovaciones”, apunta Cristina Gallego, autora del informe y profesora de EAE Business School.

Para 2030, el informe pronostica un crecimiento de los vehículos conectados (autónomos), todo lo relacionado con la infraestructura de TI, y al seguimiento y monitoreo de activos y redes inteligentes.
La diferencia entre dispositivos conectados y los que no lo están, aumenta desde 2020 y, según estimaciones de IoT Analtycs (2021) recogidas por EAE Business School, será de 20.600 millones de dispositivos en 2025 en el mundo. El caso de uso más importante es el de los teléfonos inteligentes, donde se prevé que la cantidad aumente a más de 17.000 millones para 2030.
“Este aumento de este tipo de dispositivos responde no sólo a su total incorporación en la vida cotidiana, que prima la conexión y la monitorización constante. Las nuevas modalidades de consumo multimedia, la mayor inversión por mejorar las redes, y el aumento de los tiempos de conexión de la etapa Covid-19 han supuesto una consolidación y un crecimiento de este mercado”, señala la autora.
No obstante, para gestionar servicios IoT, se necesitan soluciones cloud. En España, se utiliza principalmente para la gestión del correo (86,3%), y como almacenamiento (82,1%). Aunque en la gráfica nos muestran que el 4,2% de las soluciones por parte de empresas se basa en Edge computing. Esta nueva tecnología va más allá del IoT.
La implementación de este nuevo tipo de sistemas dentro de las organizaciones, en ocasiones, “no es tan sencillo”. Según un estudio realizado por Kaspersky (2020) y recogido por EAE Business School, las compañías se enfrentan a problemas como la necesidad de implantar herramientas de ciberseguridad por los elevados costes (40%), la imposibilidad de justificar la inversión ante la junta directiva (36%) y la falta de personal o de conocimientos específicos en materia de seguridad IoT (35%). “Esto, supone que la inversión en tecnologías avanzadas sea menor por los costes e infraestructura satélite necesaria”, advierte la profesora.
De acuerdo con National Geographic subir una foto al día a Instagram, almacenar archivos en la nube o tener la bandeja de entrada del email llena genera una huella ecológica que demanda el 7% de la energía mundial. Las emisiones globales de CO2 producidas por la industria de las tecnologías de la información (2%) es equivalente a lo emitido por una flota de Boeing 747.
5G cubrirá el 53% de la población española en 2023, pero solo un 3% del área geográfica. Estos datos revelan que la mitad de los ciudadanos accederán a 5G, pero la gran mayoría se concentrará en las grandes ciudades. En este sentido, tal y como recoge el informe, se espera que esta tecnología esté completamente desplegada en 2023 y no habrá cambios entre la cobertura en España de 2023 a 2025.
“La implantación del 5G está siendo progresiva, supone un esfuerzo por parte de las principales operadoras. Sin embargo, su desarrollo permitirá avances significativos y un mayor desarrollo de la industria 4.0. El aumento de la velocidad permitirá el desarrollo de la robótica, y se potenciará el ecosistema mayor de uso del IoT, entre otros beneficios”, explica Cristina Gallego.
