Nos adentramos cada vez más en la era digital y con ello surge de forma fundamental la pregunta: ¿qué relevancia tienen las tecnologías del futuro, como el Internet de las cosas, la realidad aumentada y la inteligencia artificial, para el propio trabajo? Sin embargo, una encuesta realizada por YouGov en nombre del Instituto de Investigación Handelsblatt y TeamViewer revela que la relevancia de las tecnologías digitales no se percibe por igual entre los trabajadores, hay que diferenciar entre dos grupos: los empleados que disponen de un sitio fijo de trabajo («desk workers») y aquellos que no realizan sus labores siempre en el mismo lugar («deskless workers»).
Según la encuesta, que recoge las opiniones de cerca de 3.160 trabajadores de oficina, 2.000 trabajadores sin escritorio fijo y 3.650 directivos de diez países europeos, los trabajadores de oficina calificaron la relevancia de las tecnologías futuras para su propia profesión de forma significativamente más alta que los trabajadores sin escritorio. Asimismo, cuando se preguntó a los trabajadores de oficina y a los que no lo son sobre la importancia que tendrían en sus trabajos tecnologías y megatendencias digitales. Los empleados de oficina («desk workers») mostraron que tecnologías y las megatendencias digitales como la ciberseguridad (79%) y las tecnologías de comunicación digital/software de colaboración (71%), serían las más relevantes para ellos. En cambio, los trabajadores sitio fijo de trabajo (“deskless workers), los que trabajan en servicios de campo, logística o producción, por ejemplo, coincidieron en señalar tecnologías como la ciberseguridad (52%)y las tecnologías de comunicación digital/software de colaboración (45%), aunque con una ponderación diferente en cuanto a su importancia.
Sin embargo, cuando se trata de temas incluso más visionarios como la inteligencia artificial o la realidad aumentada, el estudio revela que ni los trabajadores de escritorio ni los trabajadores sin escritorio parecen tener una idea precisa de cómo estas tecnologías podrían dar forma a su lugar de trabajo del futuro.
Un panorama similar de resultados se presenta entre los directivos en Europa, que representaban a los empresarios. Esto debido a que ellos esperan una mayor relevancia de las futuras tecnologías y megatendencias como la ciberseguridad (73%) y la computación en la nube (58%) para los trabajos de oficina como, contabilidad, etc. Sin embargo, para las prácticas de los trabajadores sin lugar fijo de trabajo en logística y producción, estas tecnologías se consideran menos relevantes (ciberseguridad 63%, computación de la nube 51%).. Por otra parte, los directivos parecen tener ya una idea más clara que los empleados en cuanto a la importancia que tendrán en el futuro tecnologías como la inteligencia artificial y la realidad aumentada.
Para Georg Beyschlag, Vicepresidente Ejecutivo de Estrategia y Desarrollo Corporativo de TeamViewer: «La encuesta muestra que en muchas empresas todavía no hay una idea precisa de cómo los entornos de trabajo más allá de los clásicos puestos de oficina pueden incluirse en la transformación digital. Sin embargo, alrededor del 80% de los empleados de todo el mundo forman parte de esta llamada ‘deskless workforce’. Para la mayoría de las empresas, esto se convertirá en uno de los grandes retos de la era digital: cómo integrar a los trabajadores sin lugar de trabajo fijo en los procesos digitales para que estos también se beneficien de las ventajas de la digitalización. Una vía clara es con las soluciones digitales adecuadas, las empresas de todos los tamaños pueden avanzar en la digitalización a lo largo de toda su cadena de valor».
Según el estudio, sólo el 13% de los encuestados del lado de los trabajadores teme que las nuevas tecnologías se apoderen de su trabajo en el futuro. Sin embargo, más de una cuarta parte de los empleados (26%) espera que las tareas rutinarias tediosas o las actividades peligrosas les sean arrebatadas por las nuevas tecnologías en el futuro. Ante esta situación, los empresarios son aún más optimistas, alrededor de dos tercios de los estos (65%) esperan que sus empleados se vean liberados de esas tareas en el futuro.
Al comparar los datos por países, los empleados y empresarios de Italia, Polonia y España tienden a conceder la mayor importancia a la influencia de las tecnologías y las megatendencias digitales del futuro en su profesión. En cambio, los empleados y empresarios de los países centrales de la UE, Alemania y Francia, en particular, sólo valoran la relevancia de las tecnologías digitales y las megatendencias para su profesión, o su empresa, por debajo de la media.
