El fraude por operaciones de pago con tarjeta en el canal e-commerce crecerá este año a un ritmo igual o ligeramente superior al que lo hacen las transacciones del comercio digital.Esta es la estimación que hacen los análisis del Instituto Coordenadas de Gobernanza y Economía Aplicada sobre medios de pago y la evolución del fraude en el comercio online.
Las estimaciones de avance del comercio digital en España señalan que se mantendrá el nivel de crecimiento de años anteriores, o ligeramente superior, con tasas de incremento en torno al 30% y con un montante al final del año por encima de los 51.000 millones de euros. El fraude en los pagos con tarjeta sigue la misma tendencia. Según el Instituto Coordenadas, el importe defraudado por operaciones con tarjeta de crédito en el comercio digital supondrá más del 75% del total de fraude en el uso de tarjetas de crédito.
El fraude con las tarjetas de crédito se focaliza en Internet y desciende en los puntos de venta físicos y en los cajeros automáticos. El aumento de las plataformas de venta online, que se expanden a todo tipo de operaciones comerciales, multiplica el ámbito del fraude a niveles desconocidos hasta ahora. La suplantación de identidad y el robo de datos en los pagos con tarjeta focalizan los delitos en las operaciones de comercio online y su expansión está impulsada por la velocidad de vértigo a la que se suceden esas operaciones. Las empresas carecen en la mayoría de los casos de medios para verificar en tiempo real los datos del instrumento de pago al ritmo acelerado con el que se cierran las operaciones, lo que proporciona enormes posibilidades para los defraudadores, señala el análisis del Instituto. De cara al futuro, el panorama no es demasiado alentador. A pesar de que es previsible un incremento de las condiciones de seguridad de los pagos con tarjeta en general, el crecimiento exponencial del comercio electrónico, de sus operaciones y del montante de las mismas, van a minimizar en la práctica todo el esfuerzo de protección que se implemente.
La evolución que está experimentando el fraude con billetes y que certifica el Banco Central Europeo en el primer semestre del año es inversa al e-comerce. El número de billetes falsos en euros retirados de la circulación descendió casi un 17% respecto al mismo periodo del año anterior y la probabilidad de recibir un billete falso es bastante remota, al ser su número muy bajo en comparación con el de los billetes auténticos en circulación, que ha aumentado ininterrumpidamente a ritmos superiores al del crecimiento del PIB desde la introducción del euro. En 2018, el número y el importe de los billetes en euros en circulación aumentaron en torno a un 5,6 % y un 5,2 %, respectivamente. Actualmente, el número de billetes en euros en circulación asciende a más de 22.000 millones y su importe total supera los 1,2 billones de euros. Jesús Sánchez Lambás, Vicepresidente Ejecutivo del Instituto Coordenadas, asegura que “la convivencia con el fraude en los pagos con tarjeta en el comercio digital es ineludible en la sociedad actual. Incorporar mayor cultura tecnológica y pautas de conducta preventiva a nuestros hábitos de consumo es imprescindible ante la débil protección en el espacio de Internet».
