Los cuatro gigantes tecnológicos, conocidos bajo el acrónimo GAFA (Google, Apple, Facebook y Apple), hace años que son conscientes de esta realidad. El gran volumen de datos al que tienen acceso y la capacidad que tienen para explotarlos han resultado ser el motor de crecimiento de estas compañías.
En los últimos años, las organizaciones han tomado conciencia de cómo los datos son un activo estratégico y por ello buscan transformarse hacia compañías Data-Driven, focalizándose en disponer de datos con la calidad requerida, en asegurar que estos son accesibles a quien los necesita y en situar el dato en el centro de todas las decisiones estratégicas.
En algunos sectores, como es el caso del sector financiero, el marco regulatorio ha influido notablemente en este proceso de transformación. Los nuevos requisitos regulatorios y actualizaciones normativas como GDPR, SOLVENCIA II o Basilea, han supuesto para las organizaciones la necesidad de ejecutar diversos proyectos de transformación alrededor del dato. Fruto de ello, es el surgimiento de nuevos roles dentro de las organizaciones, como la figura del Chief Data Officer (CDO). En base a su conocimiento del negocio, el CDO debe proporcionar su visión y estrategia en todas las iniciativas de la organización relacionadas con los datos. La trazabilidad de los datos, la gestión de los diferentes roles (data owner, data steward, etc.), la gestión de los términos de negocio a través del diccionario de datos o la calidad de los datos son solamente algunos de los retos a los que se ha enfrentado el CDO durante estos años.
A pesar de que la mayoría de las entidades financieras han nombrado un nuevo CDO, su ubicación dentro de la organización y el modo en que este ha evolucionado en sus funciones, ha sido diferente. En algunos casos esta figura ha evolucionado y se ha fusionado con el rol de Chief Analytics Officer (CAO). En otros casos ambos roles han permanecido totalmente independientes. Por último, todavía hay organizaciones que no han identificado ninguno de estos dos roles.
El CAO tiene como objetivo generar valor al negocio a partir del análisis de datos. Es un perfil que debe de estar centrado en la innovación y explotación de las tecnologías emergentes para resolver los desafíos del entorno del dato (Big Data/ Hadoop, blockchain, FinTech, etc.). Este rol debe identificar iniciativas que se focalicen en generar oportunidades de negocio, incrementar la eficiencia y reducir riesgos. Para ello deberá traducir dichas iniciativas en casos de uso que generen un beneficio para la organización.
Los principales casos de uso en el sector financiero están relacionados con la detección del fraude y la evaluación del riesgo. Algunas entidades financieras son capaces de monitorizar el fraude interno basándose en el seguimiento de las actividades de sus empleados conjuntamente con información adicional extraída de redes sociales, SMS y emails, para un posterior análisis a través de grafos que pudiera facilitar la detección, en su caso, de patrones de actuación anómalos.
Otro de los ámbitos de aplicación de las capacidades analíticas es el conocimiento del cliente o la percepción que este tiene de la organización. En este sentido, algunas compañías disponen de sistemas que les permiten predecir el abandono de un cliente a partir de determinados patrones de actuación, o realizar un análisis predictivo de los datos del cliente con el objetivo de generar ofertas personalizadas y ponerlas a su disposición en tiempo real. Con objetivo de tener una mayor visión sobre la percepción de la marca o servicio prestado, existen determinados sistemas de monitorización y obtención de feedback de los clientes sobre nuevas políticas de la organización, productos o servicios lanzados. Estos servicios están basados en algoritmos de análisis de sentimientos, que se nutren de la recogida rápida de información a través de las redes sociales e internet.
En conclusión, el dato, en todas sus formas, formatos y tipos, se ha convertido rápidamente en el activo más estratégico de las organizaciones. Los desafíos de administrar y gobernar los datos de manera eficiente y efectiva aumentan con el volumen, la velocidad y la variedad de los mismos. Las nuevas capacidades, como pueden ser el análisis predictivo, el aprendizaje automático y la inteligencia artificial, continuarán impulsando la transformación de cómo se adquieren, gestionan, gobiernan y analizan los datos. Estas nuevas capacidades forman parte de un proceso de transformación que implicará considerar cinco elementos clave: estrategia, personas, procesos, datos y tecnología.
