En el contexto industrial, las que más arriesgan con esta transición son las PYMEs, que deben definir sus planes de adopción de estas nuevas tecnologías de la mejor forma posible para asegurar un retorno de la inversión satisfactorio a corto plazo. Así, valoran cuál es la mejor manera de incorporar estas nuevas tecnologías para hacer frente a la nueva realidad del mercado. De acuerdo a TechAisle, tecnologías como el IoT podrían superar el 75% de penetración en las medianas empresas y el 33% en las pequeñas empresas.

Por otra parte, a principios del año pasado la comunidad de Madrid ponía en marcha una línea de subvenciones de 2,5 millones de euros para implantar la industria 4.0 en las pequeñas y medianas empresas industriales, con el objetivo de mejorar su competitividad y posicionamiento en el sector. Aunque generalmente las PYMEs son más ágiles y flexibles que las grandes compañías, innovar les supone, a diferencia de a estas últimas, un riesgo y un esfuerzo económico sustancial que, si son mal gestionados, pueden suponer pérdidas considerables.
Eaton, proveedor tecnológico de productos y soluciones para gestión de energía, repasa a continuación 3 puntos clave a tener en cuenta a la hora de considerar una transición de este tipo en una PYME.
El IoT no es la tierra prometida, es una necesidad
Es ante todo la necesidad, en este caso, motivada por unas exigencias cada vez más complejas por parte de los clientes, la que determina que es hora de empezar a trabajar hacia la actualización de tecnologías y la automatización de procesos, más que una mera tendencia sin un fundamento sólido. Las PYMEs están experimentando cómo sus clientes demandan información cada vez más detallada acerca de todos los parámetros de la máquina, así como una mejor gestión de las diferentes partes del proceso, con el objetivo último de alcanzar una mayor productividad y una mayor eficiencia. A nivel general y según el informe Industria 4.0 de PwC, las compañías industriales digitalmente avanzadas van a experimentar un incremento de su facturación del 2,9% de media anual en los próximos cinco años, incremento que en España sería de un 1%. Además, los costes operativos se podrían reducir hasta en un 3,6% en 2020 gracias a la implantación de la tecnología. Por el contrario, las pérdidas ocasionadas por no atender a esta demanda, pueden superar con creces estas cifras.
Elaborar un plan de evolución específico, realista y rentable
Una vez detectada la necesidad y llevado a cabo un análisis exhaustivo de los procedimientos más susceptibles de ser mejorados llega el momento de centrar la propuesta y definir en qué va a consistir en cada caso el ‘salto’ a la innovación. La apuesta de innovación debe enfocarse en mejorar ciertas tecnologías concretas. En su defecto, y cuando no hay un indicio claro de por dónde comenzar, es la actividad central del negocio la que debe ser objeto de transformación y actualización. Los objetivos que constituyan este nuevo plan han de ser específicos, realistas y medibles, siempre teniendo en cuenta que la adopción de nuevas tecnologías depende del equilibrio entre el valor añadido que aportan y su coste de implementación. En definitiva, las PYMES han de elaborar planes concretos que puedan tener un impacto a corto plazo en la cuenta de resultados.

Seleccionar un partner que te ofrezca la mejor tecnología al menor coste posible
Dependiendo de los recursos de la PYMEs, en ocasiones resulta más estratégico, útil y rentable asociarse con un partner que ofrezca las capacidades tecnológicas que nuestra empresa no posee. Eaton recomienda seleccionar un partner que ofrezca tecnología con un nivel de modulación lo más alto posible en su segmento y que tenga capacidad híbrida, es decir, que permita la mezcla arquitecturas de varias marcas. Las PYMEs deben considerar qué partner se ajusta mejor a sus necesidades y a las de sus clientes a la hora de elegir a aquel que le aportará un valor añadido al conjunto de su actividad.
En definitiva, todas las empresas y en concreto las PYMEs han de dejar de pensar en los conceptos Industria 4.0, conectividad o IoT como un fin que debe ser alcanzado a toda costa, para pasar a estudiar las necesidades reales que sus clientes están demandando, si es que lo están haciendo, a este respecto. Solo así es posible determinar un plan de transformación real y adaptado a unas exigencias y carencias concretas, o bien seleccionar un partner con el que puedan colaborar para suplirlas.
