Desde hoy hasta el próximo 1 de julio se celebra en Barcelona el esperado Mobile World Congress (MWC), el mayor evento tecnológico del mundo que el pasado año se suspendió debido a la inminente pandemia de coronavirus. El encuentro de este año, inaugurado ayer en una cena por el rey y el presidente del Gobierno, será híbrido. Se espera la asistencia física de unas 35.000 personas y la de miles más de forma virtual.
“Es una de las grandes citas tecnológicas internacionales, sin duda la más destacada de occidente para las telecomunicaciones móviles”. Así describió ayer el rey Felipe VI al MWC en la charla que dio en la cena organizada por la GSMA en la Ciudad Condal que da pistoletazo de salida al esperado evento, que este año vuelve a celebrarse tras la interrupción producida el pasado año con la pandemia a las puertas de estallar.
El monarca recordó que este encuentro tiene lugar en España desde 2006, “en esta querida ciudad de Barcelona”. Tras precisar que España “representa un destino de verdadera garantía”, refiriéndose a su oferta ferial y hotelera, y recalcar la “conectividad internacional” que disfruta el país, subrayó el “vibrante ecosistema de emprendimiento de base tecnológica” y la “clara vocación de nuestras empresas por la internacionalización, que no solo no ha remitido en esta crisis, sino que se ha intensificado, como ya empiezan a demostrar los datos disponibles para 2021”.
Pedro Sánchez, presidente del Gobierno, Ana Colau, alcaldesa de Barcelona y Pere Aragonès, presidente de la Generalitat de Cataluña, estuvieron también en la cena de inauguración del evento junto a Mats Granryd, director general de la GSMA. Granryd afirmó en su discurso: «Estamos encantados de volver a Barcelona, de volver a los negocios y de volver a estar juntos. El tema de este año, ‘Connected Impact’, pone de relieve el poder de la tecnología móvil para lograr un cambio significativo».
La celebración del MWC de este año será discreta debido a la pandemia en la que seguimos inmersos. Tras el parón realizado el pasado año, la asociación organizadora, la GSMA, ha optado por celebrar el encuentro en un formato híbrido, entre presencial y virtual, al que se espera que asistan físicamente unas 35.000 personas.
Incluso no todos los ponentes acudirán físicamente al encuentro. Un tercio de los 350 que asistirán al MWC21 participarán virtualmente (a través de Teams, de Microsoft, que es la compañía que se ha asociado con la GSMA para realizar las videoconferencias y reuniones del encuentro). “Tomar las enseñanzas de nuestro evento híbrido en Shanghai ha sido fundamental para ayudar al equipo a dar forma a la experiencia para el MWC21”, según John Hoffman, CEO de GSMA, para quien la reconducción del encuentro era “una necesidad”.
El evento, que reúne en Barcelona a las principales empresas y profesionales del sector de telecomunicaciones móviles, se centrará, a través de ponencias y debates, en el futuro de la industria y el impacto de tecnologías como el 5G, la IA, el big data y el IoT.
El Pabellón institucional de España, de más de 800 m2, tendrá como objetivo poner en valor el potencial español en el sector tecnológico a través de una selección de 25 empresas españolas que mostrarán sus servicios y soluciones en ámbitos de innovación como la inteligencia artificial, el 5G, el IoT, la ciberseguridad o el blockchain, entre otros, y entrar en contacto con potenciales socios o colaboradores, clientes e inversores.
En este espacio, organizado por la entidad pública Red.es, dependiente del Ministerio de Asuntos Económicos y Transformación Digital a través de la Secretaría de Estado de Digitalización e Inteligencia Artificial, estarán representados 16 sectores: 5G, inteligencia artificial, realidad aumentada, big data, blockchain, ciberseguridad, cloud, comercio electrónico, fintech, geolocalización, internet de las cosas, ocio digital interactivo, salud y bienestar social, ciudades inteligentes, sostenibilidad y medioambiente y tecnologías del lenguaje.
