La sofisticación y el volumen de ciberamenazas exigen pasar a posiciones proactivas bajo el paraguas de una plataforma holística y simplificada basada en la inteligencia.
La industria del cibercrimen mueve ya más dinero a nivel global que el narcotráfico, posicionándose como una de las principales preocupaciones de gobiernos y entidades supranacionales de todo el planeta. Y, es que, el impacto económico anual que tienen los ciberataques para las empresas supera el billón de euros. Esto no sería posible si los denominados “malos” no actuasen con una organización y especialización privilegiadas. Además, añade Eutimio Fernández, country manager de ThreatQuotient para España, cuentan con recursos e infraestructuras prácticamente infinitas. “La innovación en sus técnicas y herramientas, y la automatización de muchos de sus procesos a través de su infraestructura, hacen muy difícil que las empresas puedan estar preparadas para hacerles frente, incluso con el último software de protección”.
En el momento actual, y con la pandemia de coronavirus como gancho de oro para la ciberdelincuencia, toda compañía es consciente de que si aún no ha sido atacada es que no lo sabe o que lo va a ser relativamente pronto. Ataques como el ransomware amenazan con bajar las persianas de entidades de todos los tamaños. De hecho, según datos de instituciones gubernamentales estadounidenses, las bandas de ransomware recaudaron en el país casi 350 millones de dólares en 2020, una cifra tres veces más alta que en el año anterior. ¿Esto significa que la carrera de fondo contra el cibercrimen está perdida? No, aunque, en el mejor de los casos, sí está difícil. Por ello, argumenta Fernández, estamos en el instante adecuado para dar un paso más en la protección. “Hay que conocer al enemigo, contar con información que las soluciones de seguridad habituales no nos aportan y poner en marcha procesos ágiles que nos permitan vigilar su actividad, detectarla cuando estén dentro de nuestras organizaciones y reaccionar a tiempo”.
Todo este nuevo escenario se podría resumir en la necesidad de cambiar los enfoques reactivos por la proactividad, es decir, por la aplicación de técnicas de ciberinteligencia y de automatización que aporten visibilidad y significado al panorama de amenazas. Aunque, puntualiza el directivo, esto requiere de mucha información que hay que adquirir, entender y hacer actuable. “Si no tenemos tecnologías, personas y procesos bien definidos y automatizados capaces de absorber esta información, priorizarla y activarla en el tiempo oportuno, las organizaciones siempre van a estar del lado de la reactividad”.
Para que esto no suceda, la compañía provee la plataforma ThreatQ, que se pone en el centro de toda esta operación para agilizarla y automatizarla, permitiendo llegar a la anticipación. Asimismo, y al utilizar la ciberinteligencia, reduce los costes de gestión de todas las operaciones de ciberseguridad. Se trata, en definitiva, de una solución holística que simplifica los procesos y que hace que los datos sean actuales mediante la automatización de adquisición de esa información, clasificación y diseminación por la infraestructura.
“ThreatQ permite a las empresas dar un salto hacia la anticipación y la proactividad haciendo que la infraestructura de la empresa esté preparada para identificar y parar las amenazas importantes antes de que lleguen al negocio”, asevera Fernández. “Entender las amenazas que nos acechan y estar preparados para la actuación son beneficios diferenciales”.
Tal y como se ha citado anteriormente, la plataforma reduce los costes de las operaciones. Y el Retorno de la Inversión (ROI, de sus siglas inglesas) se hace patente en todas las etapas de gestión de una amenaza. Por ejemplo, en el análisis de vulnerabilidades y riesgos, permite identificar brechas que deben ser prioritarias y pone en marcha sus parches de forma inmediata. “De esta forma tapamos los agujeros importantes rápidamente en vez de esperar un ciclo de gestión de parches que podría ser bastante más largo”.
También, en la fase de soluciones de protección y gestión del cambio, ThreatQ detecta lo que es relevante incluso cuando sus mecanismos de defensa por defecto no tengan esta información. “Pasaremos de tener procesos que duran días a la inmediatez. Los SIEM (Sistema de Gestión de Eventos e Información de Seguridad) y SOAR (Sistema de Orquestación, Automatización y Respuesta) generan eventos en función de los datos que disponen. Si la información no es correcta dan ruido e incidencias y, solo si es de calidad, serán productivos. Con ThreatQ se reduce la cantidad de información enviada a estos elementos, que será de calidad, reduciendo en un 90% los falsos positivos que se pueden generar por actuar sobre información no prioritaria”.
Como resultado, la información está más enriquecida, y además se comparte y fluye de la misma forma por todos los equipos, lo que permite una colaboración más cercana y con datos más precisos. En definitiva, dice Fernández, “cada euro invertido trae importantes retornos de inversión en el resto de procesos y tecnologías”.
Estas características hacen de ThreatQ un gran paso hacia delante en la madurez en ciberseguridad.
