Parece que hoy día es imposible hablar de informática o de negocios sin mencionar la Inteligencia Artificial, una tecnología que ya se anuncia como la “nueva electricidad” (1). Según la prestigiosa consultora tecnológica Gartner, el mercado de la IA movió 1,2 trillones de dólares en 2018 (2), y que en el futuro las soluciones dedicadas a la experiencia del cliente serán el mayor valor para la empresa. Es poco probable que estas soluciones vengan en forma de robots en las tiendas, pero lo que es seguro es que ofrecerán a los clientes una experiencia más personalizada y cohesiva.
El potencial de la IA está generando una carrera de inversiones en todo el mundo, donde los gobiernos europeos pugnan por seguir el ritmo a China y EE UU. Por ejemplo, la Unión Europea tiene como objetivo invertir 20.000 millones de euros en IA para antes de 2020. En un intento por incentivar a los talentos técnicos europeos, los científicos han anunciado la inauguración de un estudio de investigación en esta área que se localizará en centros neurálgicos del Reino Unido, Alemania, Suiza, Israel y Países Bajos.
La IA ofrece además una solución a uno de los mayores problemas del sector tecnológico: la caducidad de las tecnologías. Es fácil entender que las empresas consideren un problema invertir en una tecnología que en poco años se quedará obsoleta, ya que el sector evoluciona a un ritmo meteórico. La IA permite que la tecnología evolucione con nosotros, ayudando así a las compañías a mantenerse al día en innovación.
Distinguir el grano de la paja
Pero para integrar la IA, las organizaciones primero tienen que familiarizarse con esta tecnología y con lo que puede hacer. Una buena práctica es mejorar los procesos de negocios actuales. Por ejemplo, añadir una capa de inteligencia a los análisis de datos. Aplicando la IA a las tradicionales herramientas de inteligencia empresarial, se dispone de dashboards capaces de ofrecer datos predictivos en lugar de solo decir a la empresa lo que ya ha ocurrido.
Por ejemplo, cada vez más empresas utilizan soluciones de Automatización Robótica de Procesos (RPA) que es una evolución de las tradicionales herramientas de automatización de flujos de trabajo. Utilizan la IA para simular el comportamiento humano y realizar tareas más complejas, como recabar y extraer conocimiento, reconocer patrones y adaptarse con el tiempo.
Conozca sus límites
En segundo lugar, las empresas deben ser conscientes de su falta de competencias internas. Puede haber una enorme diferencia entre lo que quieren lograr y lo que pueden conseguir realmente en un periodo dado. La IA es una tecnología muy diversa desde el punto de vista técnico y de proceso empresarial. Por eso los líderes empresariales deben saber de qué es capaz su organización y de qué no antes de incorporarla. Por ejemplo, antes de implementar algo como el “aprendizaje profundo” o deep learning, las empresas necesitan limpiar sus datos para evitar la situación de «basura entra, basura sale”.
Crear un grupo de trabajo multiempresa e integrar distintos conjuntos de datos, puede solucionar las incoherencias. Este nivel de inversión en los procesos de empresa y de plantilla es especialmente importante en estrategias como el Purchase to Pay (P2P) o el marketing, pues garantiza la exactitud y el cumplimiento con las leyes más recientes.
Haga cambios graduales
Es importante no intentar de introducir cambios muy radicales en la empresa, sino asumir la IA como parte de su evolución. Por ejemplo, una empresa minorista podría empezar implementando servicios de selección en sus centros de llamadas (call centres) que criben las consultas de los clientes antes de dirigirlos al operador adecuado. A nivel medio, muchos minoristas utilizan chatbots para atender las consultas de los clientes, pues ofrecen respuestas más inteligentes gracias a la IA incorporada. En el nivel más sofisticado, minoristas como Ocado han recurrido al aprendizaje profundo para detectar de forma inteligente la actividad fraudulenta en su página web (3). Esta tecnología flexible es muy útil para las empresas pues les permite mantenerse ágiles. Y si se implementa de manera gradual, puede ofrecer a las organizaciones la oportunidad de demostrar valor, recoger opiniones y actuar en consonancia.
Talento, no solo tecnología
Por último, no está de más recordar que no basta con la tecnología para garantizar el éxito de una estrategia de IA si no va acompañada de una cultura interna adecuada. Una de las mejores formas de hacerlo es dar prioridad a la inversión en nuevo talento, que pueda traer nuevas corrientes de ideas e innovación. Algo que en sí puede ser un reto, ya que el mercado crece a un ritmo superior a la disponibilidad de talento. Las empresas deben invertir en aumentar el conocimiento de sus empleados, crear una base que permita concienciar la plantilla mediante la formación.
El futuro de la IA
Para llegar a integrar la IA, las empresas deben entender que esta tecnología no podrá exprimirse del todo si se utiliza únicamente en momentos de necesidad, en vez de tratarse como una parte integral del negocio. Las organizaciones tienen que buscar oportunidades para innovar con la IA y hacerlo de manera integrada con su modelo empresarial. No basta con incorporar la tecnología, sino que deben inculcar una cultura de la IA en la plantilla. Al apostar por la IA, las empresas tienen la oportunidad no solo de mejorar sus actuales productos y servicios sino de crear otros nuevos que continúen aportando valor al cliente. No obstante, deben valorar el mercado con ojo crítico y adoptar aquellas tecnologías que realmente puedan ofrecer ventajas tangibles hoy.
