Ni el Joker ni Loki han cosechado tantos enemigos como lo ha hecho Internet en sus casi 40 años de historia. Adicciones, contenidos inapropiados, hackeos… son alguno de los riesgos que han ido manchado la reputación de las nuevas tecnologías, a lo que se suma el común error de poner mayor atención a los inconvenientes que a las ventajas. Por eso, no es de extrañar que las familias tiemblen a la hora de regalar el primer móvil a su hijo o al verlos utilizar la tablet. Sin embargo, desde Qustodio señalan 7 aspectos positivos del uso y desarrollo de las nuevas tecnologías en los más pequeños que muchos evitan admitir:
1. Internet es la nueva enciclopedia. Los 16 volúmenes de la enciclopedia que podíamos tener en casa hace unos años no tienen nada que hacer frente a la Wikipedia que cuenta con más de 1,5 millones de artículos solo en español. Internet no solo contiene información infinita y de cualquier temática, si no que a diferencia de las enciclopedias impresas, la información que se encuentra en las enciclopedias virtuales siempre está actualizada.
2. ¿Jugar a la vez que aprendes? ¡Es posible! “Los niños y niñas no juegan para aprender, pero aprenden jugando”. Esta cita del psicólogo suizo Jean Piaget cobra mucha más importancia hoy en día con las numerosas apps para que los niños aprendan a la vez que juegan. Kahoot!, una herramienta diseñada para hacer tests como si fuesen concursos para toda la clase o el método online para repasar matemáticas con ejercicios divertidos, Smartick, son solo algunos ejemplos de las apps de aprendizaje disponibles.
3. Adiós a las mochilas con toneladas de libros. Aunque la Asociación Española de Pediatría (AEP) recomienda que el peso de la mochila no debe superar entre el 10 y el 15% del peso del menor -no más de 5 kilos en los menores que pesen 30- el 80,4% de los niños en edad escolar portan más kilos de lo que es seguro para sus espaldas como asegura un estudio de la Universidad CEU San Pablo. Afortunadamente, la digitalización ha permitido que muchos de esos libros de texto de 256 páginas y unos 500 gramos de media se queden en casa y puedan almacenarse en webs, plataformas o tablets. ¡Mucho menos pesado en todos los sentidos!
4. ¡Autodidactas al poder! No todo son gameplays ni vídeos violentos en YouTube, ya que la plataforma de vídeos también es una excelente forma para aprender a tocar la guitarra o repasar las lecciones de matemáticas, por ejemplo. De hecho, la búsqueda de vídeos explicativos y tutoriales de este tipo crece un 70% cada año, según un estudio de Google. ¡Adiós a pagar las caras clases de ukelele!
5. Además, aceleran el aprendizaje. Toshiba y la escuela infantil La Salle Bonanova de Barcelona elaboraron un experimento en el que ofrecieron portátiles a una clase para demostrar que la tecnología puede ayudar en la educación. Y lo hace de forma muy destacada, ya que casi el 84,6% de los alumnos acabó el trimestre con notas en matemáticas de 7 o más frente al 57,7% de la clase que no utilizó ordenadores.
6. Favorecen la comunicación. Las familias de hoy en día cuentan con la tranquilidad de que pueden contactar con sus hijos en cualquier momento para saber dónde están gracias a los smartphones. Pero no solo eso, las nuevas tecnologías también les acercan a esos familiares más lejanos a través de las videollamadas. Además, Internet se ha convertido en el medio idóneo donde socializarse y relacionarse con los demás. Un buen ejemplo de ello son las redes sociales.
7. Y aumentan su creatividad. Muchos piensan que Internet los hace más vagos, pero Internet es mucho más que una simple búsqueda en Google y un triste “copia y pega”. Las nuevas tecnologías ofrecen una gran variedad de herramientas que, si se utilizan de la forma adecuada, pueden ser de gran ayuda para fomentar la creatividad e imaginación en los más pequeños. Ejemplo de ello son las impresoras 3Ddiseñadas especialmente para que los menores puedan diseñar e imprimir sus propios juguetes. Además, un neurocientífico de la Universidad de California, asegura que Internet ha producido un cambio en la mente de los usuarios que hace que el cerebro filtre más fácilmente la información, sea más hábil para tomar decisiones rápidas y más creativo.
