La ciberseguridad es un tema que a diario va cobrando mayor relevancia en nuestras vidas. Bajo ese contexto, 34 de las mayores empresas tecnológicas en el mundo han formado un nuevo frente para trabajar a nivel global por la seguridad de sus clientes en contra de ataques maliciosos.
ABB, ARM Holdings Plc, Cisco Systems Inc., Dell Technologies Inc., GitHub, Facebook, HP Inc., HPE, LinkedIn, Microsoft, Nielsen, Nokia, Oracle, Symantec Corp., Telefonica y Trend Micro son algunas de las tecnológicas que este martes han firmado el acuerdo Cybersecurity Tech Accord. Las grandes ausentes son Alphabet Inc., Apple Inc. y Amazon.com Inc, pero el acuerdo sigue abierto a nuevos signatarios.

La alianza detalla en su sitio web que es «un compromiso público entre 34 compañías globales para proteger y empoderar a los civiles en línea y para mejorar la seguridad, la estabilidad y la resiliencia del ciberespacio.»
El compromiso es ofrecer la misma protección para los clientes en todo el mundo. De esta manera, estas empresas se han comprometido a combatir el uso indebido de su tecnología, proteger a todos los clientes independientemente de su nacionalidad, geografía o la motivación de ataque.
«Los devastadores ataques del año pasado demuestran que la ciberseguridad no se trata solo de lo que puede hacer una sola compañía, sino también de lo que todos podemos hacer juntos», dijo el presidente de Microsoft, Brad Smith, y añadió:
Este acuerdo de sector tecnológico nos ayudará a tomar un camino de principios hacia pasos más efectivos para trabajar juntos y defender a los clientes de todo el mundo.
Como parte del acuerdo, las 34 tecnológicas trabajarán en cuatro áreas. La primera está centrada en montar una defensa más fuerte contra los ataques cibernéticos. La segunda en no ayudar a gobiernos a lanzar ciberataques contra ciudadanos y empresas inocentes, y proteger contra la manipulación o la explotación de sus productos y servicios en todas las etapas de desarrollo, diseño y distribución de la tecnología.
La tercera está enfocada en empoderar a los desarrolladores, personas y empresas que utilizan su tecnología, ayudándoles a mejorar su capacidad de protegerse. Y, finalmente, la cuarta es que a través de las relaciones existentes entre las tecnológicas se establezcan nuevas alianzas formales e informales con la industria, la sociedad civil y los investigadores de seguridad para mejorar la colaboración técnica, coordinar las divulgaciones de vulnerabilidades, compartir amenazas y minimizar el potencial de que códigos maliciosos sean introducidos en el ciberespacio.
El esfuerzo se produce después de que el año pasado ataques como WannaCry y NotPetya obstaculizaran negocios en todo el mundo y solo un día después de que Estados Unidos y el Reino Unido emitieran una alerta conjunta sin precedentes citando la amenaza de ataques cibernéticos de actores patrocinados por Rusia.
«Las consecuencias de las amenazas cibernéticas en el mundo real han sido probadas repetidamente», dijo Kevin Simzer, director de operaciones de Trend Micro, y añadió:
Como industria, debemos unirnos para luchar contra los ciberdelincuentes y evitar que futuros ataques causen aún más daños.
De acuerdo con la alianza, se espera que las pérdidas económicas causadas por ataques cibernéticos a empresas y organizaciones de todos tamaños lleguen a 8 mil millones de dólares para 2022. Con este acuerdo, intentarán mitigar las pérdidas lo más posible. La primera reunión entre las empresas firmantes se llevará a cabo en el marco de la conferencia RSA, que se celebra esta semana en San Francisco (Estados Unidos).
