La pandemia obliga a reforzar la ciberseguridad empresarial, apostar por el análisis de datos, potenciar las aplicaciones móviles y reforzar el teletrabajo.
La crisis del COVID-19 está teniendo graves consecuencias en nuestro país. Además de los más 224.000 contagiados y más de 26.000 fallecidos, las limitaciones a la actividad del estado de alerta ya han destruido 285.000 puestos de trabajo según la última EPA, sometido a 3,9 millones de trabajadores a expedientes temporales de regulación de empleo, y Bruselas acaba de hacer públicas unas previsiones que apuntan a una caída del 9,4% del PIB español en 2020. En ese contexto, la tecnología y la innovación pueden ser aliadas clave tanto para limitar la extensión de la enfermedad como para mitigar su impacto negativo en las empresas, según la última investigación de Grant Thornton.
En su informe ‘Perspectiva del COVID-19: Tecnología e innovación contra el Coronavirus’ , la consultora ha analizado la forma en que tecnologías como el blockchain, la impresión 3D, las aplicaciones móviles, la inteligencia artificial o la robótica están contribuyendo a luchar contra la pandemia y a minimizar su impacto en la actividad empresarial.
Entre otras conclusiones, el estudio ha calculado qué tecnologías han realizado una mayor aportación hasta ahora a la lucha contra el coronavirus, del que se extrae que el 53% de las iniciativas innovadoras desplegadas para esa finalidad han recurrido al big data y a la inteligencia artificial, el 22% a la robótica y el 12% a la ciberseguridad. En tercer y cuarto lugar, se han situado el blockchain (11%) y los chatbots (2%).
En este sentido, Luis Pastor, socio director de Consultoría Tecnológica e Innovación de Grant Thornton, afirma que “en tiempos tan volátiles y con un alto grado de incertidumbre, el uso de las tecnologías más punteras es un recurso clave y un factor distintivo fundamental para los negocios, porque permite aprovechar la información para ayudar a los más afectados y prevenir mayores consecuencias”.
En su investigación, los expertos de Grant Thornton apuntan a países como China o Corea del Sur como las referencias en ese uso de la tecnología para combatir el virus. Por ejemplo, “el software de GPS chino BeiDou ha permitido a las autoridades del país enviar mensajes de alerta a 6 millones de vehículos u orientar a drones y robots que han entregado equipamientos médicos y material sanitario en áreas remotas. La compañía CloudMinds ha desplegado 100 robots en hospitales de todo el país, incluido uno en el epicentro de la pandemia, en Wuhan, operado íntegramente por máquinas. Y la tecnología de toma de temperatura mediante infrarrojos de Baidu está permitiendo examinar a 200 personas por minuto en la estación de Qinghe, en Pekín, evitando así el colapso de sus instalaciones”, ejemplifica Luis Pastor.
Por otro lado, el estudio analiza qué usos de una serie de tecnologías ya están contribuyendo a reducir los tiempos de toma de decisión, a mejorar las competencias de los trabajadores y a predecir y solucionar situaciones problemáticas tanto a los sectores público y privado en muchos países.
La tecnología Blockchain, por ejemplo, permite una mejor gestión del material sanitario al garantizar la trazabilidad de su cadena de suministro: una función que habría reducido la incertidumbre y vuelto más transparente el proceso de abastecimiento de países como España, donde esta cuestión ha resultado especialmente polémica. También permite reducir la propagación de bulos, al permitir la trazabilidad del origen de las noticias.
La impresión 3D, por su parte, permite un abastecimiento rápido y asequible de los hospitales, como demuestra la producción de respiradores en solo tres horas por solo 100 euros, en contraste con su precio de mercado, que supera a menudo los 15.000.
Las aplicaciones móviles de telemedicina, en tercer lugar, están utilizándose en muchos países para evitar el colapso de sus teléfonos de emergencias: una situación de la que no somos ajenos en España, en que, en el momento álgido de la pandemia, el 112 registró tiempos de espera de entre 5 y 15 minutos.
Grant Thornton apunta también a la geolocalización como a una tecnología que puede ponerse al servicio de un mejor control de los infectados por el coronavirus y de sus respectivas cuarentenas, de la mano de sistemas de información geográfica que no solo cumplen una función de supervisión, sino que recopilan también datos para predecir tendencias.
La inteligencia artificial es otra innovación con múltiples usos en la lucha contra el COVID-19. Por ejemplo, la detección temprana de infectados, el diagnóstico rápido o el seguimiento de tratamientos. La combinación de sistemas de videovigilancia y cámaras térmicas asistidas por IA permiten por ejemplo tomar la temperatura o detectar a las personas que no llevan mascarilla en estaciones de metro o de tren, y las herramientas diagnósticas basadas en inteligencia artificial pueden determinar si alguien ha contraído o no la enfermedad en entre 15 y 20 segundos con un grado de exactitud del 96%.
Por último, los drones y robots permiten el control remoto de la población: recordar por ejemplo a los ciudadanos que deben permanecer en sus casas, pulverizar desinfectantes en zonas afectadas o interactuar directamente con pacientes de hospitales en la entrega de alimentos y medicinas o desinfectando habitaciones, salas de espera y pasillos mediante rayos ultravioleta para reducir el contagio del personal sanitario.
