En el año 2010, el cloud computing comenzaba a despegar tímida pero sólidamente: sirva el ejemplo que Azure pasó a ser un producto comercial el 1 de enero de 2010. Empieza la historia de una década en la nube.
En 2014 ya se estima que AWS tiene más del 70% de cuota de mercado en cloud público y los proveedores nacionales siguen en la senda del crecimiento. La administración pública comienza a asumir el discurso del cloud y lo requiere en numerosos pliegos, pero con un condicionante: que los datos estén en territorio local. Gran victoria para los clouds europeos.
El IoT y el Big Data comienzan a ser una realidad hacia el año 2015; el almacenamiento masivo y la gestión del dato es prioritario para las empresas y proveedores y comienza la carrera entre estos últimos por el liderazgo en este campo.
Pronto la seguridad está en entredicho: se conocen ataques a Yahoo, eBay, Linkedin y Playstation en 2016, afectando a más de mil millones de personas. La seguridad de las infraestructuras es portada en los periódicos generalistas.
Se percibe un cambio de mentalidad del CIO hacia el año 2017: necesita más agilidad en los procesos y flexibilidad en cualquier infraestructura. Mientras, la mayoría de integradores de toda la vida (especialistas en implantaciones on-premise) se dan cuenta de que llegan tarde y comienzan a buscar alianzas con clouds públicos y privados.
El modelo híbrido se consolida y se adereza con PaaS y SaaS. Entre los proveedores se comienza a asumir de manera evidente que, sin servicios gestionados, es difícil competir en el mercado e incluso AWS toma la decisión de gestionar por ellos mismos clientes globales top. La señal de que es un sector maduro ya es evidente.
En la siguiente década se espera una interacción y federación total de plataformas y datos bien definidas geoestratégicamente. Según los expertos, más del 80% de las infraestructuras serán híbridas en 2025 y, a pesar de que los entornos industriales y de defensa nacional no sucumbirán por distintas razones al cloud, tendrán que convivir con ello por la revolución 4.0 y guerras electrónicas respectivamente.
Mientras, los cloud providers nacionales tendrán que buscar alianzas con Edge Computings locales e internacionales y clouds públicos o no cubrirán las necesidades de su cliente. Además, el 5G será un nuevo actor en las comunicaciones y por lo tanto catalizador de la explosión de datos que se avecina.
La IA ayudará a mejorar la toma de decisiones, tanto para el cliente como para los cloud providers, optimizar los procesos e incluso auto-reparar las plataformas en caso de caída.
Los datos médicos y el cloud jugarán un papel fundamental para la mejora de nuestra salud y su monitorización; se esperan más IPO´s (initial public offering) del sector e-health que puramente tecnológicos.
Cabe resaltar también que ahora mismo ya vemos que van a consolidarse dos o tres campeones europeos para hacer sombra a los grandes clouds americanos y chinos: ya hay iniciativas al respecto y apoyadas por la UE.
¿Os acordáis de Akamai en 2010 con sus mini plataformas distribuidas a lo largo y ancho de todos los cinco continentes y que interactuaban como soporte de la plataforma principal? Pues volveremos más o menos a ese escenario, 20 años después. Y es que debemos aprender del efecto péndulo de la historia.
