El mundo del Big Data, formado por conjuntos de datos cuyo tamaño, complejidad y velocidad de crecimiento dificultan su captura, gestión, procesamiento o análisis mediante tecnologías y herramientas convencionales.
El Internet de las Cosas, con la consolidación a través de la red de redes de una “red” que alojase una gran multitud de objetos o dispositivos, es decir, poder tener conectada diferentes “cosas” como vehículos, electrodomésticos, dispositivos mecánicos, o simplemente objetos tales como calzado, muebles, maletas, dispositivos de medición, biosensores, casi cualquier objeto que nos podamos imaginar.
En resumen, vivimos en un mundo de datos, datos y más datos y la necesidad de guardarlos, de analizarlos, de darles forma, de sacarles partido, de aprender de ellos, ha hecho que el IT de las empresas tenga que transformarse y ser cada vez más ágil, menos dependiente de la disponibilidad e inmediatez de ese “dato”. Es decir, despreocuparse del dato para que esté siempre disponible.
Así las cosas, las empresas ahora mismo se encuentran inmersas en la carrera por aprender a obtener la mayor rentabilidad posible al dato y, de esta forma, poder diferenciarse de la competencia.
En la evolución del almacenamiento primero debemos diferenciar lo que es flash de lo que es almacenamiento inteligente
Todo esto lleva a las organizaciones a crecer tanto en capacidad para guardar datos como en computación para analizarlos; tanto en el centro de datos como en el extremo, de la forma más rápida y eficaz posible.
En todo este proceso también juega un papel fundamental la Inteligencia Artificial aplicada al ciclo de vida de las cargas de trabajo. Esta tecnología permite reducir radicalmente los tiempos de soporte de las cabinas, a la vez que es capaz de prevenir cualquier fallo, informando a los administradores de los posibles problemas que puedan estar afectando a la producción.
Además, la inteligencia aporta valor de negocio al dato “crudo” de la información. Lo que hasta hace poco recibía el término genérico de Big Data ahora se ha diversificado en diferentes sistemas de análisis, que van desde el análisis estadístico tradicional hasta los sistemas de aprendizaje neuronal profundo más avanzados.
Ante este panorama, ¿cómo evoluciona el almacenamiento para adaptarse a todo lo anterior?
Primero debemos diferenciar lo que es flash de lo que es almacenamiento inteligente. Porque actualmente, casi todos los fabricantes pueden ofrecer almacenamiento flash, pero sólo unos pocos podemos ofrecer almacenamiento inteligente.
El almacenamiento flash proporciona velocidad y democratiza el rendimiento, porque en la actualidad, todas las aplicaciones pueden tener alto rendimiento. Hasta hace poco, esto no era así, porque en las cabinas híbridas había que elegir qué aplicaciones requerían mayor rendimiento que otras.
Lo importante es contar con cabinas con funcionalidades Enterprise, es decir, que ofrezcan alta disponibilidad, resiliencia (que ante cualquier eventualidad sepan reaccionar y recuperarse de manera rápida) y alto rendimiento.
Y como la potencia sin control no sirve de nada, a todo esto hay que dotarlo de inteligencia. Y es algo que no todos pueden ofrecer. Esto se traduce en análisis predictivo, información del rendimiento en función de cargas de trabajo y mejoras en la experiencia de soporte del usuario.
En definitiva, se trata de ofrecer un almacenamiento muy rápido, basado en tecnología “all-flash” que mejora rendimiento, velocidad, y que, además, garantice la disponibilidad, evitando posibles pérdidas en el servicio que ofrecen las empresas a sus clientes. Por otro lado, los costes de las memorias flash han disminuido en los últimos años lo que unido a la aparición de nuevas tecnologías, como el nuevo protocolo de alto rendimiento NVMe y las nuevas memorias SCM, ayuda a que las principales cargas de trabajo de las empresas trabajen a pleno rendimiento, con latencias muy bajas.
Otra característica fundamental es que sea predictivo, es decir, que cuente con una inteligencia artificial muy potente en su ADN, que permita no solo auto gestionar el almacenamiento, sino todo el Centro de Datos, desde las redes a las aplicaciones, pasando por el cómputo o cualquier solución de software asociada. Además, su gestión debe ser muy sencilla, para que libere a los departamentos de sistemas de las empresas y se puedan dedicar verdaderamente a su negocio.
De este modo, obtendrán una inteligencia artificial que entiende las necesidades de las cargas de trabajo, que se adapta y auto-regula en tiempo real y que, además, optimiza los datos para lograr el modelo económico más adecuado.
Hoy en día también es fundamental que permita mover el dato on-premise, a la nube privada o pública, sin restricciones, de manera ágil, directa, segura y con una política de costes transparente. Que sea muy flexible y capaz de adaptarse a cualquier entorno, con una integración profunda en los distintos ecosistemas que conviven hoy en día en la mayoría de las empresas. Que ofrezca la experiencia del almacenamiento como servicio, con la última tecnología garantizada, pagando según se consuma para adaptarse a las necesidades financieras de cualquier empresa.
En resumen, un almacenamiento inteligente que permita a los clientes aprovechar el máximo potencial de los datos.
