Pese a que celebridades como Johnny Depp o influencers de YouTube como PewDiePie están apoyando las criptomonedas, su ritmo de adopción por parte de los consumidores de todo el mundo se está ralentizando. Esto se debe principalmente al desconocimiento sobre su funcionamiento, que sigue frenando una adopción más generalizada. De hecho, cuatro de cada cinco encuestados españoles (84%) no ha comprado nunca criptomonedas, lo que pone de relieve el largo camino que aún queda por recorrer para que sea aceptada como una forma común de pago o inversión.
El informe ‘Territorio inexplorado: por qué los consumidores siguen siendo reticentes a adoptar criptomoneda’ elaborado por Kaspersky muestra que muchos consumidores están deseando utilizar criptomonedas, pero la falta de conocimiento les impide dar el paso. Por otro lado, muchos que creían saber con lo que estaban lidiando, decidieron dejar de usar criptomonedas. No en vano, una cuarta parte (25%) de los encuestados españoles abandonó al considerar que era demasiado complicado técnicamente.
La falta de conocimiento puede llevar a la desconfianza en las criptomonedas. Por ejemplo, más de la mitad (58%) de los encuestados españoles considera que las criptomonedas son bastante volátiles y que han de alcanzar mayor estabilidad antes de estar preparados para usarlas. También hay una percepción muy extendida entre los consumidores de que la criptomoneda no estará presente para siempre. De hecho, un tercio (33%) de los encuestados españoles cree que las criptomonedas son una moda por la que no vale la pena preocuparse.
Mientras que el interés generalizado por las criptomonedas puede haber alcanzado ya su punto álgido, todavía existe una demanda para utilizar esta tecnología. El 16% de los encuestados españoles señaló que, aunque no utiliza criptomoneda en este momento, les gustaría hacerlo en el futuro. Sin embargo, todavía hay dudas entre los consumidores, a menudo guiados por el temor de que exista un riesgo real para sus finanzas. Los estafadores pueden utilizar las criptomonedas a su favor. Para más señas, casi uno de cada cinco (17%) de los encuestados españoles señala haber experimentado ataques de hacking en el intercambio de criptomoneda. Los delincuentes también crean carteras electrónicas falsas para atraer a los consumidores a invertir su dinero de forma imprudente, y el 13% de los encuestados españoles reconocen haber sufrido un intento de fraude relacionado con criptomoneda.
«Como con cualquier ciberamenaza, no hay sustituto para la vigilancia – si algo parece demasiado bueno para ser verdad, entonces probablemente no lo sea. Si desea operar con cripto-activos en cualquier bolsa, preste atención a la seguridad de las credenciales de su cuenta. Si su objetivo es una inversión a largo plazo o utilizar criptomonedas para realizar pagos, guárdelo en entornos seguros y utilice varias carteras, o distribúyalo entre software y hardware. Asimismo, animamos a las empresas de criptomonedas a organizarse de manera efectiva para demostrar que son capaces de proteger las inversiones de sus clientes», comenta Vitaly Mzokov, director de Comercialización de Kaspersky.
