¿Cuál es el nivel de inversión TI que se observa en la banca? ¿Está creciendo el gasto en tecnología?
A. R.: En nuestra última edición del estudio Costes de TI en las entidades financieras se observa que el total del coste de TI en el sector crece un 4,3%, consolidando la tendencia alcista de los tres últimos ejercicios, y se sitúa un 10% por encima de los niveles precrisis. De media, las entidades incrementan su coste de TI un 13,4%, la variación más alta registrada en el estudio en los últimos años. De los bancos participantes en el estudio, el 65% aumentan su coste en TI.
¿Qué criterios están impulsando a las entidades financieras a dedicar mayores recursos tecnológicos?
A. R.: Principalmente el incremento del coste en IT se debe a que la digitalización de la sociedad requiere que las entidades desplieguen nuevos servicios conectados, evolucionen las capacidades en inteligencia analítica y protejan mejor su información. Esto demanda nuevos perfiles profesionales: Chief Data Officer, científicos de datos, especialistas en marketing digital, scrum masters y expertos en ciberseguridad, entre otros. En segundo lugar, está el crecimiento en la presión regulatoria y en el compliance, y un aumento en los requerimientos de disponibilidad de la información: hay que servir más información, más rápido, sin errores y a más receptores, tanto internos como externos. En tercer término se encuentra el aumento en el consumo de los servicios de IT del banco y en la transaccionalidad, debido fundamentalmente al mobile banking, que ha modificado los perfiles de consumo de recursos-máquina del banco.

¿Cómo se aborda la disyuntiva internalización versus externalización TI?
A. R.: Los bancos tienen un nivel de externalización en TI del 79,5%, por lo que es una palanca fundamental para ser ágiles en la respuesta a la demanda, incorporar talento nuevo y favorecer la innovación. Otra cosa es que la tecnología tenga un papel cada vez más estratégico para los bancos y determinadas posiciones sean contratadas en plantilla. Esto se visualiza en nuestro estudio en el porcentaje de empleados de TI sobre el total, que alcanza el nivel más alto registrado (3,7%).
¿En qué estadio se encuentran de transformación digital?
A. R.: El paradigma es el de tener ‘mentalidad digital’. Los bancos españoles han hecho muchos avances en los últimos años en áreas como la movilidad y el Big Data & Analytics. La ciberseguridad es uno de los temas que actualmente vemos con más recorrido por el aumento del riesgo y la nueva regulación. En cuanto a las tecnologías cloud, la banca está adoptando esta tecnología a un ritmo más lento que otras industrias, si bien en 2018 creemos que se producirá un avance significativo en esta área. En robotización (RPA) vemos recorrido también a corto plazo. La Inteligencia Artificial hoy en día ofrece también muchas oportunidades y es un área poco explotada aún por nuestros bancos.
¿De qué manera define la eficiencia la inversión tecnológica?
La eficiencia del gasto de IT la analizamos desde dos perspectivas:
Coste de IT vs negocio: Las ratios de IT sobre margen bruto, activos totales medios y gastos generales de administración están en los niveles más altos desde 2008. Es decir, el banco tiene que dedicar más recursos a TI para servir a su negocio que hace unos años.
Ratios cualitativas (discrecionalidad, flexibilidad y aplicaciones/infraestructura): Los tres ratios bajan respecto al ejercicio anterior, indicando que la estructura de costes media de IT está escorada hacia partidas no discrecionales y de infraestructuras, aunque con coste variable: proveedores externos, outsourcing, etc.
