El mayor evento mundial de las telecomunicaciones comenzará el próximo 26 de febrero consolidando su relevancia e impacto en el ecosistema digital más allá del móvil.
Entre el 26 y el 29 de febrero, las grandes firmas de la industria tecnológica y de las telecomunicaciones se volverán a reunir, como cada inicio de año, en Barcelona, para celebrar una nueva edición del Mobile World Congress (MWC), cuya temática este 2024 es ‘Future First’, un concepto que suena más adecuado que nunca si consideramos los enormes avances en inteligencia artificial (IA) e IA generativa que se vieron el año pasado.
Desde la Fira Gran Vía de la capital catalana, el MWC 2024 centrará sus temáticas en seis –5G and Beyond, Connecting Everything, Humanising AI, Manufacturing DX, Game Changers y Our Digital DNA-, alrededor de las cuales debatirán ponentes de todas las geografías e industrias.
Destacan entre los speakers los CEO de los principales operadores de telecomunicaciones del mundo como Telefónica, Deutsche Telekom, China Mobile, Orange o Vodafone; de grandes empresas tecnológicas como Microsoft, Dell y DeepMind (Google); y de otros players del sector, como Accenture, Xtend, la GSMA y otros. Además, se ha confirmado la presencia de la ex subsecretaria de Estado, Carme Artigas, ahora como copresidenta de la Junta Asesora de IA de la ONU, de Sir Konstantin Sergeevich Novoselo, profesor de la Universidad Nacional de Singapur y ganador del Premio Nobel de Física 2010, y de la delantera del Barça femenino y jugadora africana del año, Asisat Oshoala, quien será la nueva embajadora de la campaña ‘Rompiendo Barreras’.
Mats Granryd, director general de la asociación organizadora del evento, la GSMA, expresó en una presentación ante la prensa que «la edición de este año del MWC Barcelona supone 18 años trayendo nuestro evento insignia a la ciudad de Barcelona y estamos muy agradecidos por la asociación público-privada única construida sobre la innovación, la colaboración y el éxito mutuo. El MWC es una fuerza unificadora que pone de relieve cómo la tecnología móvil trasciende las fronteras políticas, geográficas y culturales, y estamos impacientes por dar el pistoletazo de salida a esta reunión de las mentes más innovadoras y emprendedoras del mundo el mes que viene».
Por su parte, el CEO de la GSMA, John Hoffman, manifestó que “estoy tan entusiasmado con esta edición del MWC como lo estaba con mi primera exposición en Barcelona en 2006. Como siempre, volvemos más grandes y mejores con una gran lista de ponentes, expositores y programas que se dirigen a todo el ecosistema móvil, desde los innovadores de la industria hasta los responsables políticos. Estamos entusiasmados de trabajar con todas las partes de nuestra ciudad anfitriona para ofrecer el evento de tecnología más grande del mundo, con el apoyo de algunas de las compañías tecnológicas más grandes del mundo. Tengo muchas ganas de experimentar el bullicio de los pabellones y ver a Barcelona brillar en febrero».
Si bien el MWC nació como un evento de telecomunicaciones puro, la conectividad y lo móvil han permeado tanto a la forma que funcionamos como sociedad que la cita se ha ido consolidando como una iniciativa que busca impactar en toda la industria tecnológica.
Así, este año vuelven los espacios dedicados a sectores o temáticas específicas donde la tecnología está generando grandes cambios, como el llamado Journey to the Future, donde se puede la transformación de seis sectores (Salud, IA, Movilidad, Sostenibilidad, Accesibilidad y Retail) donde la high tech está tomando relevancia. En él participará el Emirates Team New Zealand, vencedor de la 36ª Copa América, donde mostrarán su innovador barco propulsado por hidrógeno, de cara a la 37ª edición de la competición de vela, que se llevará a cabo en Barcelona este año. También vuelve el Sports Tomorrow Congress, organizado por el Barça Innovation Hub, donde se exponen los avances de la tecnología en el área de los deportes.
Connected Industries, en tanto, contendrá las innovaciones verticales en los sectores de la fabricación, la movilidad inteligente, las fintech y el comercio móvil, y el entretenimiento, entre otros; y el Programa Ministerial de la GSMA reunirá a responsables políticos y líderes de la industria para que puedan compartir conocimientos y desarrollar nuevas y mejores políticas públicas y regulaciones.
Todo lo anterior se suma a los diversos espacios gastronómicos, de networking y de ocio con los que usualmente cuenta el MWC, como Beat Barcelona y Meet & Eat.
La plataforma de startups del MWC Barcelona, 4YFN (For Years From Now), cumple este 2024 diez años existiendo en el marco del evento, una cita que los emprendedores locales e internacionales aprovechan para darse a conocer, hacer networking, generar negocio y conseguir inversores. En esta última década, el pabellón ha recibido a más de 4.200 expositores y 5.200 inversores.
Este año, 4YFN contará con los programas y aceleradoras de grandes empresas como Amazon, AstraZeneca, Boehringer Ingelheim, ESADE, GSK y el Instituto de la Industria de la Información, y destacarán ponentes como Sara Bisbe, cofundadora y Chief AI Tech Officer de Aily Labs, y Chema Alonso, Chief Digital Officer de Telefónica.
