Los datos son un gran activo para las empresas, pero si no son de calidad o no están bien gestionados pueden ocasionar a las empresas pérdidas cercanas a los 15 millones de dólares al año como indica Gartner. La calidad y el gobierno de los datos son grandes retos que afrontan hoy en día las empresas, ya que es complejo entender en profundidad el alcance y sus dimensiones.
Además de las pérdidas económicas, hay que añadir las consecuencias que una mala estrategia de datos puede ocasionar en la reputación corporativa, los costes de oportunidad y los ingresos.
“El gobierno de datos es un marco para garantizar que los datos se administren de una manera que cumpla con los requisitos de negocio. Proporciona una estructura general para garantizar la coherencia entre departamentos, equipos y aplicaciones, así como políticas para manejar los cambios en los sistemas heredados o las actualizaciones de infraestructura que afectan a los modelos de datos existentes”, explica Antonio Soto, director de Verne Tech en Verne Technology Group.
Un paso más allá, que verdaderamente puede eliminar las pérdidas, solucionar problemas y facilitar la toma de decisiones es la observabilidad de datos. Es la capacidad de monitorizar y visualizar los datos de una empresa, entendida como una iniciativa estratégica e integral que permite conocer cómo fluyen los datos a través de toda la organización y que tiene el potencial de impactar en todas las áreas.
Según previsiones de Gartner, en 2026 el 70% de las organizaciones que apliquen correctamente la observabilidad lograrán reducir la latencia en la toma de decisiones, lo que permitirá obtener una ventaja competitiva en los procesos empresariales o de TI que se establezcan como objetivo.
La observabilidad es mucho más que una herramienta operativa y puede aportar a las empresas los siguientes beneficios:
1. Gestión unificada y proactiva de los datos. Frente al enfoque tradicional basado en una naturaleza reactiva y centrada en el cumplimiento, los datos en silos y la seguridad, la observabilidad proporciona una visión holística del entorno. En lugar de perseguir el error en cientos de aplicaciones y sistemas diferenciados, la visibilidad de extremo a extremo permite optimizar la gestión de los datos en todas las fases.
2. Reducción del tiempo en el diagnóstico de problemas. Al ver el comportamiento de los datos en tiempo real, se pueden detectar los fallos y tomar decisiones más rápidas en el diagnóstico y resolución de problemas. En consecuencia, es posible mejorar la eficiencia empresarial gracias a la observación de las métricas de rendimiento.
3. ¡Adiós a los silos! Visibilidad 360. Las soluciones de supervisión o monitorización tradicionales se basan en silos o cubos, enfocándose en un área específica, como el rendimiento del software o la latencia de la red, por ejemplo, sin considerar ningún otro factor que afecte al rendimiento general, como los límites de capacidad del sistema que se alcanzan debido a la alta demanda durante horas pico. Frente a esto, la observabilidad ofrece una visión general mediante la recopilación y visualización de datos de diversas fuentes, teniendo en cuenta factores generales y externos y permitiendo al equipo de TI analizarlo sobre un único dashboard.
4. “Cada oveja con su pareja”.Un enfoque de observabilidad no se basa solo de monitorizar, si no que se trata de hacer llegar los datos correctos a las personas adecuadas en el momento adecuado para que esos datos se utilicen de manera efectiva. Los diferentes departamentos pueden tener una visión general de todos los datos de su compañía, pero reciben análisis que corresponden a sus métricas de rendimiento, lo que les permite centrarse en aquellas áreas en las que más necesitan mejorar.
5. Optimizar el flujo y la política de datos de la organización. Con este nuevo conocimiento en la mano, los equipos pueden ajustar procesos en consecuencia o crear nuevos basados en la realidad de su empresa. Además, acceder a esta nueva información, permite a la compañía tener una perspectiva mejor de en qué medida funcionan las políticas de gobierno de datos en la práctica, así como qué sucede cuando algo va mal, mejorando la toma de decisiones interna.
