Estos son los tres grandes frentes abiertos que deben encarar los responsables de sistemas y tecnologías de la información en 2023, sin olvidar la transformación de su propio papel, que pasa por acercarse indiscutiblemente al negocio.
El mundo avanza a una velocidad vertiginosa, especialmente en lo relativo a la tecnología y la innovación, algo constatado de primera mano en el Palacio de Ferias y Congresos de Málaga (FYCMA). Allí ha desembarcado el CIO Executive Council (CEC), el mayor club privado de CIO de grandes multinacionales de España impulsado por Foundry, con un propósito inamovible: conquistar la séptima edición del Digital Enterprise Show (DES). Conscientes de la necesidad imperante de comenzar a dibujar el futuro que desean en el presente, y abanderando el lema de esta convocatoria, Next is Now, el CEC ha celebrado la mesa redonda Ocupaciones y preocupaciones del CIO para 2023. Un encuentro que, bajo la batuta de Miguel Llorca, CIO de Grupo Torrent y coordinador del CEC, ha ahondado en los principales frentes abiertos que deben encarar los responsables de sistemas y tecnologías de la información durante el presente ejercicio. Así es como se rearman para liderar el mañana.
Renovarse o morir. Los cambios radicales, a menudo, tienden a brindar soluciones a un escenario estancado, inmerso en el letargo, sin posibilidades de avanzar. Esto es precisamente lo que ha ocurrido con la propia transformación del rol del CIO (Chief Information Officer) en el seno de las compañías. Los responsables de este área han dado un paso al frente sumergiéndose de lleno en un proceso de cambio radical adaptándose a las necesidades corporativas, pasando de un lenguaje puramente técnico a hablar la lengua de los negocios. Una adaptación que les ha permitido, no solo situarse al lado de la alta administración, sino entenderse con ella.
Esto ha supuesto un cambio fundamental a la hora de proceder y detallar a los ejecutivos qué necesidades imperan en la división de TI, cuáles son los retos a encarar de manera conjunta y cómo pueden ambas partes aliarse para alcanzar de manera exitosa los objetivos establecidos. Entre los desafíos que han protagonizado la citada mesa redonda celebrada en el pabellón España Pyme Digital, los CIO han subrayado el talento, la integración de la inteligencia artificial (IA) y otras tecnologías de vanguardia en los procesos empresariales, además de la ciberseguridad como puntos prioritarios.
La gestión del talento es, para Félix Jimeno, CIO de Grupo ACS, una cuestión “complicada” que todos comparten. Al relacionarlo con los despidos masivos que se han producido en las grandes compañías tecnológicas entre finales del ya caduco 2022 y comienzos del 2023, Jimeno defiende que las generaciones más jóvenes “lo ven de manera diferente”. Y es que, dice, sus valores y cultura corporativa son otros a los que estaban acostumbradas las organizaciones. “Este tipo de personas no buscan promoción, entienden que su carrera profesional está ligada a la formación y ven esto como una oportunidad de seguir desarrollándose en otro sitio. Tienen una mentalidad digital que obliga a las empresas a adaptarse”.
Precisamente hablando de transformación, Rocío López, CIO de ING, expone la necesidad de impulsar la creación y captación de perfiles tecnológicos desde un punto de vista “sostenido”. Al contrario que las big tech, cuyo crecimiento en términos de contratación y creación de empleo tecnológico es “exponencial”, lo que termina “por regular el propio mercado” desatando los despidos, López apuesta por una visión de a futuro. Para ello se apoya en una retribución flexible que supere las fronteras del salario: “Modelos de trabajo flexibles, entornos dinámicos, teletrabajo, posibilidad de observar el impacto directo que crean en los clientes, lo que se traduce en un vínculo que va más allá de la propia tecnología”.
Para Manuel Tarrasa, CIO de Prosegur, una de las claves del gap entre la oferta de talento especializado y la demanda de las compañías está en que “el input disminuye a medida que la demanda crece en un contexto en el que las compañías nos reclaman austeridad”. María José Sesarino, CIO de Lefebvre, confiesa que, en este sentido, el gran reto para 2023 pasa por “convencer internamente que los presupuestos de TI han de incrementarse, no solo por las necesidades tecnológicas como tal, sino porque los perfiles tecnológicos se pagan muy bien en el mercado”.
Ser competitivo es una cuestión de equipo, pero también de talonario, y es algo que la alta administración debe comprender. Sin embargo, apoyarse en la tecnología, concretamente en la inteligencia artificial, puede ser un salvavidas cuando los recursos son escasos. Así lo comentaba Tarrasa. “La inteligencia artificial generativa, junto con los grandes modelos del lenguaje, va a permitir automatizar tareas y conseguir que los desarrolladores sean más eficientes”. Aunque estamos, comenta, “en los albores de estas tecnologías, debemos apostar por ello como una de las vías de salida a los actuales problemas”.
A pesar de que era Tarrasa quien abría el melón de la inteligencia artificial, pronto se sumaron al hilo argumental sus compañeros de escenario. A este respecto Jimeno aseguraba que, “aunque la IA nos ayude en el trabajo en el futuro, no tengo claro hasta dónde puedo llegar con ella para impulsar el negocio o en qué problemas me puedo meter. Tengo quebraderos de cabeza sobre cuándo comenzar a emplearla”. Estamos, según López, ante la “nueva disrupción tecnológica. Tenemos que avanzar rápido, pero con mucha prudencia a la hora de experimentar con ella”. Un punto de vista que compartía Sesarino añadiendo que, “aunque somos muy conscientes de las reticencias de la IA, apostamos plenamente por ella, estamos convencidos de que es el futuro, es una ayuda inestimable”. Así, confesaba que no podían perder la oportunidad de ofrecer al cliente “un mayor valor añadido”.
La regulación, inevitablemente, irrumpió en escena de la mano de López, “es la que tiene que poner los guardarraíles para trabajar de manera segura”. Siguiendo esta estela, Tarrasa incidía en que “las recetas están inventadas”. “Se debe montar una unidad especializada en IA, cubrir la parte legal, la privacidad… Hay que hablar ese lenguaje, tender puentes; y eso solo se hace concentrando el conocimiento en un contexto de escasez de talento”.
La ciberseguridad se ha convertido en los últimos años en un eje transversal a todas las unidades de negocio, a todas las divisiones corporativas. Así lo defendieron sobre las tablas los CIO participantes en esta mesa redonda que concluía con la voluntad de continuar integrando la ciberseguridad en la agenda de prioridades empresariales. Además, ponían de relieve la necesidad de que ciberseguridad trabaje de la mano de TI, en este sentido, comentaban, el CISO y el CIO deben aliarse, respetarse y colaborar a la hora de diseñar, implementar, evaluar y redefinir una estrategia en este ámbito.
