Con el fin de aprovechar la digitalización para impulsar la transición ecológica, contará con una inversión de 257,7 millones de euros de los fondos europeos Next Generation EU.
El Consejo de Ministros ha adoptado el Programa Nacional de Algoritmos Verdes, un compromiso del Plan de Recuperación que contará con una inversión de 257,7 millones de euros de los fondos europeos Next Generation EU para el desarrollo de una tecnología respetuosa con el medioambiente, guiada por criterios de sostenibilidad y aplicada al desarrollo de acciones contra el cambio climático.
Con el objetivo de impulsar una Inteligencia Artificial (IA) Verde por Diseño (Green by Design), el PNAV persigue que desde la propia concepción y desarrollo inicial del algoritmo se incorporen variables de sostenibilidad medioambiental. De esta manera, se explotan las sinergias entre la doble transición verde y digital.
La inteligencia artificial proporciona una mejora de análisis de información y toma de decisiones, lo cual redunda en una mejor monitorización de tendencias e impactos en el medioambiente, ayudando, por ejemplo, a reducir el consumo de energía y de recursos, a promover la descarbonización y a impulsar la economía circular.
El PNAV impulsará una Inteligencia Artificial respetuosa con el medioambiente y que aporte soluciones inteligentes a los desafíos ecológicos
Pese el gran potencial de la inteligencia artificial para aportar soluciones a estos desafíos más relevantes para España, no hay que perder de vista las amenazas que plantea, como el alto coste energético que puede acarrear su construcción y la preocupación por temas como el potencial consumo eléctrico mundial que demandarán las TIC en 2030, y otras herramientas asociadas al blockchain.
El Programa se desarrollará durante el periodo 2023-2025, con un presupuesto total de 257,7 millones de euros y pretende posicionar a España en la vanguardia del desarrollo de una IA más responsable con el medioambiente, apoyando a los centros de investigación punteros y al tejido económico del país.
El impulso de la eficiencia energética es clave para la tecnología sostenible. La Manifestación de Interés publicada desde el 15 de octubre al 25 de noviembre de 2021 recogió 88 expresiones de interés. Esta importante aportación del sector, junto a la necesidad de desarrollar una IA sostenible, apoyando la excelencia en la investigación científica y su aplicación en el tejido productivo del país, ha impulsado la publicación del PNAV en torno a cuatro ejes principales:
El Plan Nacional de Algoritmos Verdes se enmarca en el Plan de Recuperación, Transformación y Resiliencia, la Agenda España Digital 2026 y la Estrategia Nacional de Inteligencia Artificial.
El principal objetivo de la Estrategia Nacional de Inteligencia Artificial es impulsar el desarrollo de la IA, sentando así las bases para la creación de un ecosistema de excelencia que albergue la investigación científica y la innovación, el desarrollo de capacidades y talento, el despliegue de plataformas de datos e infraestructuras tecnológicas, su integración en el tejido económico, la potenciación de su uso en el sector público y el establecimiento de un marco ético y normativo.
El Plan Nacional de Algoritmos Verdes está también en consonancia con los valores propugnados por la Unión Europea y establecidos en el Plan Coordinado de Inteligencia Artificial, publicado por la Comisión Europea en 2021 que impulsa el uso de una inteligencia artificial más verde.
