Así lo ha avanzado la consultora de investigación y análisis Gartner al poner de manifiesto que si bien faltan más de 10 años para la adopción a gran escala de las tecnologías del metaverso, ya existen formas prácticas de que las organizaciones las aprovechen. En este sentido señala diferentes funciones donde estas tecnologías avanzadas pueden ser clave: la incorporación de empleados, la capacitación en ventas, la educación superior, la formación médica y militar y las experiencias de compra inmersivas.
«En la actualidad, los metaversos emergentes están en su fase inicial. Pero las tendencias tecnológicas, con casos de uso y resultados de negocio probados, son sólo el principio del valor que la innovación tecnológica aporta a la empresa», ha asegurado Marty Resnick, vicepresidente analista de Gartner. «Las apuestas a más largo plazo son los verdaderos diferenciadores que podrían trastocar toda una industria, y el metaverso es una de esas apuestas».
En este contexto, Gartner define el metaverso como «el siguiente nivel de interacción en los mundos virtual y físico»; y las tecnologías propias de este nuevo paradigma, por tanto, como aquellas herramientas que permiten a las personas replicar o mejorar sus actividades físicas, transportando o ampliando las actividades físicas a un mundo virtual, o transformando el espacio físico. No obstante, a pesar del bombo y platillo que se le está dando a la que pretende ser la nueva disrupción tech de la sociedad actual, la adopción de las tecnologías del metaverso es incipiente, está fragmentada y necesita de un importante proceso madurativo.
Esta es una de las principales razones por las que la firma de consultoría y análisis advierte a la hora de invertir en un metaverso concreto, ya que es demasiado pronto para determinar qué inversiones serán viables a largo plazo, y no se conocen del todo los riesgos éticos, financieros y de reputación de las primeras operaciones. «Aprovechen este tiempo para aprender, explorar y prepararse para un metaverso con una implementación limitada», aconsejó Resnick. «Revisen estas seis tendencias en busca de oportunidades que podrían beneficiar a su organización».
La industria del juego, concretamente la de los videojuegos, ha sido innovadora en cuanto a experiencia y tecnología durante muchos años. El metaverso utilizará las tecnologías de los juegos, las metodologías, las herramientas de desarrollo e incluso la teoría de los juegos para crear experiencias tanto para el entretenimiento como para las simulaciones de formación. Las empresas adoptarán los «juegos serios», es decir, tecnologías de juego, experiencias y narraciones para la formación y la simulación de tareas y funciones laborales específicas. Como resultado, Gartner prevé que para 2025 el mercado de los juegos serios crecerá un 25%.
Los humanos digitales son representaciones interactivas impulsadas por la IA que tienen algunas de las características, la personalidad, los conocimientos y la mentalidad de un ser humano, normalmente representados como gemelos digitales, avatares digitales, robots humanoides o interfaces de usuario conversacionales. Pueden interpretar el habla, los gestos y las imágenes, además de generar su propio discurso, tono y lenguaje corporal. Las organizaciones ya están planificando el uso de humanos digitales para actuar como agentes digitales identificados dentro del metaverso para el servicio al cliente, la asistencia, las ventas y otras interacciones con clientes actuales y potenciales. Así, para 2027, estiman que la mayoría de los CMO de empresas B2C tendrán un presupuesto dedicado a los humanos digitales.
Un mundo virtual es un entorno generado por ordenador en el que grupos de personas pueden reunirse utilizando avatares personales u hologramas. Los espacios virtuales involucran múltiples sentidos y ofrecen a los participantes la posibilidad de sumergirse e interactuar con el entorno. Por ejemplo, pueden utilizarse para aumentar el alcance de los clientes que no pueden o no quieren participar en compromisos en persona, para ofrecer nuevas alternativas a los viajes o para permitir la colaboración entre el personal. Gartner predice que en 2025 el 10% de los trabajadores utilizarán regularmente espacios virtuales (en actividades como ventas, onboarding, equipos remotos), frente al 1% de 2022.
Una experiencia compartida reúne a un grupo de personas en un espacio virtual. El metaverso sacará las experiencias compartidas de las aplicaciones inmersivas aisladas y permitirá que haya más oportunidades de reunirse, colaborar, interactuar, participar o compartir experiencias entre aplicaciones, eventos de consumo y servicios. En este sentido, el metaverso democratizará las experiencias inmersivas. Así, para 2028, la firma de análisis apunta que el 10% de los eventos públicos (como los deportes y las artes escénicas) ofrecerán participación en el metaverso, lo que impulsará una rápida acumulación de experiencias comerciales compartidas.
Los activos tokenizados ofrecen nuevos modelos de negocio para los creadores de contenidos. En las experiencias del metaverso, la mayoría de los activos tokenizados utilizarán tecnologías de tokens no fungibles (NFT). Los NFT apoyan nuevos modelos económicos, por ejemplo, en los que los creadores de contenidos retienen a perpetuidad la mayor parte de los ingresos de las ventas de sus obras. Las nuevas características y funcionalidades que permite el metaverso inspirarán nuevas formas no sólo de competir y monetizar los productos y servicios virtuales, sino también de adquirir bienes físicos (del mundo real). Gartner predice que para 2027, el 25% de las organizaciones minoristas con presencia en el comercio electrónico habrán completado al menos una prueba de concepto de activos tokenizados utilizando tecnologías del metaverso.
La computación espacial combina objetos físicos y digitales para mejorar digitalmente los espacios físicos. Esto permite a las organizaciones sacar más provecho de los activos físicos y digitales al sacar a la luz información y contenidos digitales relacionados y «no vistos» anclados a personas, lugares y cosas. Por ejemplo, el contenido digital puede aumentar los objetos o entornos físicos, como la coloración digital de estatuas griegas y romanas o la información adicional sobre productos u objetos. Gartner predice que para 2026 llegarán la segunda y tercera iteraciones de las gafas de computación espacial, que crearán una experiencia en el metaverso más omnipresente y conectada al mundo físico.
