En los últimos años, la pandemia, la crisis climática o la interrupción en las cadenas de suministro han empujado a las empresas a apostar por la resiliencia para ser ágiles, flexibles y poder resistir ante eventos esperados o inesperados. De hecho, un estudio de Economist Impact para Iron Mountain muestra cómo la resiliencia es un factor cada vez más importante para los negocios y requiere de un enfoque coordinado en todas las áreas de la empresa para implementarla con éxito.
En este marco, la integración de tecnologías de la comunicación, y en especial de la ciberseguridad, se erigen como áreas clave de la resiliencia empresarial. El 76% de los encuestados señala que su organización está aumentando la inversión en tecnología y herramientas para mejorar la comunicación y, por tanto, su capacidad de resiliencia. La adopción de nuevas soluciones y plataformas para optimizar el trabajo híbrido son un ejemplo de ello y el estudio revela que, desde el inicio de la pandemia, el 49% de los encuestados aceleró su inversión para ofrecer opciones de trabajo flexibles y plataformas tecnológicas para el teletrabajo.
De otra parte, el estudio destaca que un 48% de los encuestados aumentó su inversión en aplicaciones de seguridad y protección de datos debido al trabajo híbrido con el fin de mejorar la resiliencia global de su empresa.
Y aunque estas cifras confirman que se está trabajando fuertemente para mejorar la resiliencia digital, el estudio también arroja cifras que demuestran que aún queda mucho camino por recorrer:
Por otra parte, el estudio confirma que la colaboración interfuncional, que impulsa el intercambio de información y la toma de decisiones con toda la organización en mente, es otra de las claves para la resiliencia empresarial en el nuevo paradigma post pandemia que vivimos.
Así, menos de la mitad de las organizaciones priorizaban la colaboración interfuncional antes de la pandemia. No obstante, ahora, el 84% de los encuestados está de acuerdo con el hecho de
que la resiliencia organizacional debe abarcar todas las áreas de la organización, y mejorar la colaboración entre equipos y departamentos es el principal objetivo de muchas empresas.
La resiliencia también ha demostrado ser un factor relacionado con el rendimiento. El estudio de Economist Impact demuestra que aquellas empresas que ponen el foco en la resiliencia superan a sus pares en varias métricas clave. La ventaja más llamativa es la satisfacción del cliente, seguida de la gestión de los riesgos o el progreso hacia los objetivos ambientales, sociales y de gestión.
Sin embargo, la dotación de recursos para la resiliencia es vital y, para ello, se requieren directrices desde los puestos más altos de la empresa. Solo el 26% de los encuestados dijo que el director ejecutivo es el responsable de impulsar las iniciativas de resiliencia y los ejecutivos que supervisan los pilares claves de resiliencia no siempre trabajan de manera conjunta.
Por otro lado, a pesar de que existe un mayor foco en la resiliencia, el 75% de las organizaciones está de acuerdo en que la dificultad para medir la resiliencia hace que sea complicado convencer a los directivos de la empresa para invertir en ella.
Otro desafío para la construcción de la resiliencia es anticiparse a las interrupción es y dar respuesta a las mismas. Esto requiere una respuesta coordinada de todo el sistema, pero pocas organizaciones tienen un área centralizada dedicada a esta cuestión. En este ámbito, solo el 12% de los encuestados afirma que un comité de resiliencia y gobernanza está involucrado en las iniciativas de resiliencia de su organización; y solo el 3% informa que el comité es el responsable más directo de impulsar las iniciativas de resiliencia.
Para lograr un enfoque más disciplinado de resiliencia empresarial, el informe plantea cuatro áreas centrales para articular una estrategia con éxito:
1. Transformación del lugar de trabajo: El trabajo remoto ha planteado la necesidad de cambiar el papel por lo digital y asegurar espacios flexibles que se adecúen a una plantilla híbrida. Desde el inicio de la pandemia se ha acelerado la inversión para ofrecer opciones de trabajo flexibles y plataformas tecnológicas para el trabajo híbrido. Además, según el 43% de los encuestados también se han producido mayores inversiones en la diversificación del enfoque de la oficina y el espacio de trabajo físico.
2. Gobernanza y seguridad de los datos: La adopción de nuevas prácticas laborales también incrementó las amenazas a la seguridad de los datos y la necesidad de proteger la información.
Antes de la pandemia, la mayoría de las organizaciones ya estaban implementando medidas de seguridad y de gestión de datos, pero desde entonces, la inversión se ha acelerado en algunas áreas. En particular, el 48% de los encuestados invirtió más en aplicaciones de seguridad y protección de datos para el trabajo híbrido durante la pandemia.
3. Sostenibilidad: la atención que dedican las empresas a la sostenibilidad ha aumentado sustancialmente desde la pandemia y los compromisos sociales, ambientales y de gobernanza son ahora una prioridad. De hecho, los líderes de las cadenas de suministro han aumentado su enfoque hacia esta área. El 42% adoptaron ideas de ESG después de la pandemia, sumándose al 49% que ya lo había hecho antes.
4. Eficiencia Operacional: si bien la construcción de la resiliencia tiene un coste de implementación, sus beneficios van más allá de la mitigación del riesgo. Las empresas que son proactivas y transparentes sobre las medidas de resiliencia ganan la confianza de las partes interesadas y pueden obtener beneficios financieros. No obstante, a pesar de un mayor enfoque en el desarrollo de resiliencia, el 66% de los encuestados todavía ven una compensación entre la eficiencia operativa y el desarrollo de resiliencia a largo plazo.
