El proyecto, denominado TARTAGLIA, se enmarca dentro del programa Misiones de I+D en Inteligencia Artificial de la agenda España Digital 2025 y de la Estrategia Nacional de Inteligencia Artificial.
La multinacional tecnológica GMV, junto con otras 15 entidades en consorcio, serán las encargadas de la creación de una red federada con inteligencia artificial para acelerar la investigación clínica y sanitaria en nuestro país. El proyecto, denominado TARTAGLIA, se enmarca en el programa Misiones de I+D en Inteligencia Artificial de la agenda España Digital 2025 y de la Estrategia Nacional de Inteligencia Artificial. Estará financiado por la Unión Europea a través de los fondos Next Generation EU y cuenta con un presupuesto de más de 7,5 millones de euros.
La labor de GMV consistirá en aprovechar los métodos criptográficos avanzados, que mantienen los datos de pacientes cifrados mientras se realizan todos los cómputos necesarios, asegurando así el equilibrio entre privacidad y la posibilidad de utilizar los datos sin exponerlos ni moverlos de las organizaciones.
Este trabajo permitirá un mejor entrenamiento de los modelos matemáticos como apoyo a la toma de decisiones, y contribuirá a la medicina personalizada y de precisión, mejorando los tratamientos de los pacientes así como a acelerar los ensayos clínicos, entre otras cuestiones.
Además de la línea de investigación en una configuración de aprendizaje federado, el proyecto TARTAGLIA tiene otros retos de investigación con el uso de IA, como es en el diagnostico con ultrasonido y en cuatro áreas clínicas: alzhéimer, cáncer de próstata, diabetes y crónicos complejos.
Como explica Inmaculada Pérez Garro, directora de Salud Digital de GMV, «aunar entidades y empresas líderes en esta materia y crear un consorcio público-privado hace de TARTAGLIA un proyecto PAIS y tractor que contribuirá a que España sea proveedora de innovación y conocimiento en el ámbito internacional. Nos sentimos orgullosos porque este proyecto ha obtenido la mejor puntuación en un programa de I+D y para GMV la investigación y la innovación forman parte de nuestro ADN«.
El consorcio cuenta con la solución IBM Cloud Pak for Data, que facilitará el trabajo conjunto de los proveedores de datos. La solución de IBM, que se apoya en modelos analíticos avanzados y en el tejido de datos, permite a TARTAGLIA aplicar la IA en cualquiera de los sistemas de España y de la Unión Europea en donde residen los datos, por lo que podrá centrarse en sus verdaderos objetivos de investigación.
Para Juan Carlos Sánchez Rosado, Health Industry Leader de IBM para España, Portugal, Grecia e Israel, «el proyecto supone una excelente oportunidad de avanzar en el desarrollo de modelos de inteligencia artificial de forma federada sin necesidad de mover los datos, lo que facilita el cumplimiento normativo y la seguridad de los datos; un elemento crítico, especialmente cuando se trata de datos sensibles. Esto, a su vez, permitirá aplicar una mayor eficiencia, agilidad y automatización al desarrollo de modelos de IA en Sanidad«.
«Demostrar el funcionamiento de métodos de IA en el entorno de datos federado representa una etapa clave para el uso avanzado de la información biomédica«, afirma Alfonso Valencia, director del Departamento de Ciencias de la Vida del Barcelona Supercomputing Center-Centro Nacional de Supercomputación.
GMV lidera en varios consorcios europeos de investigación sanitaria paquetes de trabajo tecnológicos para la explotación de datos clínicos y epidemiológicos en los que aplica tecnologías de vanguardia como IA, big data, analítica avanzada, etc. Entre algunos de los proyectos emblemáticos en su haber cabe destacar, en España, el desarrollo de la primera plataforma de explotación de datos clínicos y epidemiológicos (de su categoría), HEXIN, en un proyecto de colaboración público-privada con la Xunta de Galicia o la plataforma big data del proyecto MOPEAD para la detección precoz del Alzheimer. En Europa, actualmente desarrolla la plataforma big data de la Alianza HARMONY para la investigación de cánceres hematológicos y la del proyecto OPTIMA, para cánceres de mama, próstata y pulmón.
Participan en TARTAGLIA agencias, fundaciones e institutos de investigación ligados a los servicios autonómicos de salud de Galicia, Comunidad Valenciana, Cataluña, Canarias y Rioja; universidades, spin-off, pymes del tejido nacional y grandes empresas con ámbito internacional. La iniciativa Misiones de I+D en Inteligencia artificial 2021 forma parte de la agenda España Digital 2025, de la Estrategia Nacional de Inteligencia Digital, y está recogida en el Plan de Recuperación, Transformación y Resiliencia. El programa está gestionado por la Secretaría de Estado de Digitalización e Inteligencia Artificial perteneciente al Ministerio de Asuntos Económicos y Transformación Digital.
Los cinco sectores estratégicos en los que deben enmarcarse los proyectos para formar parte del programa y recibir la financiación son agricultura, salud, medioambiente, empleo y energía del siglo XXI. Respecto a la salud, se busca la creación de un sistema inteligente de análisis de datos que permita anticipar y actuar de manera temprana y ultra rápida ante las principales enfermedades físicas y psicológicas en 2050, en el contexto de la descentralización del sistema de salud y el envejecimiento.
