Más de la mitad de estos centros estarán gestionados por robots avanzados con capacidades de inteligencia artificial y aprendizaje automático en 2025, predicen los analistas de Gartner.
La mayor parte del trabajo que se desarrolla en un centro de datos es tedioso, complejo y repetitivo. Algunas de las labores que allí se desempeñan son, por ejemplo, planificar la capacidad, redimensionar los entornos de máquinas virtuales y contenedores o garantizar que se hace un uso eficiente de los recursos para evitar el “desaprovechamiento de la nube” tanto para las empresas que la suministran como para sus consumidores. Por otro lado, son tareas en las que cada vez están especializados menos profesionales. La falta de talento digital que existe en otras áreas de la informática también está presente en esta.
No obstante, un informe de Gartner apunta cuál será (ya lo está siendo) la solución a este problema: el uso de robots avanzados con capacidades de inteligencia artificial y aprendizaje automático para abordar el trabajo que conlleva la gestión de estos centros de datos cloud. Las expectativas de la consultora son que para 2025 la mitad de estos centros en la nube tengan desplegados este tipo de robots, lo que conllevará un aumento del 30% en su eficiencia operativa.
Para Sid Nag, vicepresidente de investigación de Gartner, es evidente que la brecha entre los crecientes volúmenes de servidores y almacenamiento en los centros de datos y el número de trabajos capaces de gestionarlos todos se está ampliando. “El riesgo de no hacer nada para solucionar estas deficiencias es significativo para las empresas”, alerta.
El experto cree que las operaciones de los centros de datos no harán más que aumentar su complejidad a medida que las organizaciones trasladen más cargas de trabajo diversas a la nube y que esta última se convierta en la plataforma para un uso combinatorio de tecnologías adicionales, como la computación en el edge y el 5G. “Los centros de datos son un sector ideal para emparejar robots e IA para ofrecer un entorno más seguro, preciso y eficiente que requiera mucha menos intervención humana”, concluye el experto.
En concreto, en Gartner mencionan cuatro áreas donde los robots tendrán un mayor impacto en la automatización de los centros de datos en los próximos cinco años. La primera abarca las actualizaciones y el mantenimiento de servidores. “Una vez eliminados los servidores, la tarea de desmantelar y destruir las unidades puede ser realizada más rápida y eficazmente por robots industriales que por humanos”, explican desde la firma de análisis, añadiendo que esto es especialmente cierto para las empresas que realizan actualizaciones masivas con frecuencia, por ejemplo, cualquier proveedor de la nube.
La segunda área de impacto es la supervisión. “Las sondas sensoras de los robots proporcionan datos mucho más granulares sobre la temperatura de los racks de servidores sin necesidad de instalar ningún hardware físico invasivo. Los robots utilizados para la monitorización remota también pueden utilizarse para recoger otros datos, como sonido e imágenes para detectar cualquier irregularidad”, afirman desde Gartner.
La seguridad del centro de datos es otra área de fuerte impacto. “Mantener unas instalaciones de centro de datos digital y físicamente seguras es una prioridad máxima para todas las empresas de centros de datos. Los robots son capaces de proporcionar una capa de seguridad física a través de una gama de diferentes capacidades, incluyendo la comprobación de la temperatura humana a través de sensores de calor o el reconocimiento de matrículas para las instalaciones de estacionamiento”, explican.
Finalmente, la última área de impacto será el propio uso de la inteligencia artificial y el machine learning en las operaciones en la nube. “Junto con los robots, la moderna tecnología habilitada para inteligencia artificial y machine learning permite la supervisión y gestión de los procesos de TI en el centro de datos”, reza un estudio de la compañía. “Los usuarios de esta tecnología, como los ingenieros de fiabilidad del centro, son capaces de interactuar y comunicarse con la plataforma en cuestión a través del lenguaje natural. Estas plataformas son capaces de aprender de situaciones pasadas para mejorar la eficiencia en casos futuros”, añade.
En definitiva, en palabras de Nag, “mientras que sectores como los de automoción y fabricación sí han aprovechado el uso de robots, el mundo del centro de datos lo ha ignorado. Los responsables de TI pueden dirigir la automatización inteligente de las operaciones y procesos de los centros de datos en la nube para crear diferenciadores clave para sus empresas, como el aumento del tiempo de actividad y el cumplimiento de los acuerdos de nivel de servicio para sus ofertas en la nube, que se harán más realidad gracias al uso de robots”.
