A finales de 2021 el mundo gastará 332.000 millones de euros en servicios y tecnología asociados a cloud computing.
La pandemia de la Covid-19 remite -al menos en los países desarrollados-. Sin embargo, dos de sus consecuencias, el teletrabajo y las videoconferencias permanecen. El mantenimiento, por parte de las empresas, de ambos usos laborales está, sin duda, detrás de la potenciación de la nube como motor de la transformación digital. Para el fundador de JMG Virtual Consulting, José María González, “muchas de las inversiones a realizar por las empresas en relación con cloud computing permitirán fortalecer, y acelerar la transición a la computación en la nube en todas sus vertientes, desde migración de infraestructura a plataformas de negocio y soluciones nativas”.
La crisis económica mundial, consecuencia del coronavirus, ha hecho que las empresas comprendan la necesidad que tienen de estar operar en el modelo cloud computing. Pese a ello, aún les queda una tarea por completar: la migración de datos hacia la cloud. Bruno Chao, responsable de Accenture Technology para España, Portugal e Israel, cree que el año próximo esta transición de información acelerará su flujo “una gran parte de las inversiones en tecnología irán destinadas, sin lugar a duda, a fortalecer la transición a la computación en la nube en todas sus vertientes. Hablamos de migración de infraestructura, plataformas de negocio y soluciones nativas. Todo esto tiene una razón: la nube es la palanca que flexibiliza y acelera la transformación digital de las empresas”.
Pascual Parada es director, y profesor, de Innovación y Data en el IEBS Business School. Para el profesor Parada, cloud computing es la forma ideal de facilitar aplicaciones empresariales dentro del ámbito de la economía digital “además -subraya Pascual Parada- es la solución más habitualmente utilizada por las empresas que necesitan potenciar sus sistemas de tecnología de la información de cualquier índole. Hablamos de almacenamiento, capacidad de procesamiento y, también, servicios de inteligencia artificial o blockchain”.
Desde hace dos años, multitud de empresas y organizaciones, de todo el mundo y pertenecientes a cualquier ámbito de la economía, trasladaron sus procesos de almacenamiento de datos de modelos físicos a digitales en la nube… una nube que puede ser pública o privada. Con carácter general puede afirmarse que ninguna es mejor que otra en aspectos como confiabilidad, rentabilidad, rendimiento y escalado. En palabras del CEO de JMG Virtual Consulting, “la nube privada es más empleadas por organizaciones relacionadas con sectores la Administración, sanidad o economía con necesidad de incrementar el control sobre su entorno digital. Por otro lado, en el uso de las nubes públicas hallamos un diverso conjunto de usuarios a los que interesa el bajo costo, escalabilidad y confidencialidad de esta opción. También hay que tener en cuenta que, en la nube pública, el modelo de pago es pay as you go (se paga solo por lo que se consume). Esta característica, sobre todo en el caso de organizaciones en fase de desarrollo, permite gestionar, con una mayor eficacia, las necesidades de inversión en tecnologías de la información”.
El catálogo de servicios ofrecidos por la computación en la nube es, cada vez, más extenso y completo. José María González engloba estos servicios en tres categorías “IaaS o Infraestructura como Servicio, consistente en proveer y gestionar recursos de computación a través de Internet, como servidores, almacenamiento, equipos de red y virtualización; SaaS o Software como Servicio, una opción que facilita a las compañías el uso de una aplicación determinada; y, por último, PaaS o Plataforma como Servicio, donde el proveedor da al cliente un entorno de desarrollo, además de las herramientas necesarias para el desarrollo de nuevas aplicaciones”.
Es evidente que el cloud computing ha llegado para quedarse. El profesor Paul Watson, director del School of Computing Urban Sciences (Universidad de Newcastle; Reino Unido), explica el motivo “en el actual mundo digital, las cuentas de resultados de las empresas y la innovación están cada vez más unidos a la capacidad de desarrollar y utilizar tecnologías y servicios innovadores en cualquier lugar y con la máxima velocidad posible. La cloud es la plataforma para satisfacer esta necesidad”.
En España aún queda mucho camino por recorrer para alcanzar esa satisfacción: según la Cámara de Comercio de Madrid, el 58,5% de las empresas españolas carecen de un plan de formación para digitalizar a sus trabajadores.
