La migración a la nube es una tendencia indiscutible en todo tipo de organizaciones. ‘Cloud’ ofrece una flexibilidad y agilidad nunca antes vista, pero su adopción ha de ser medida y sopesada para evitar que el consumo y los costes de explotación se disparen.
“Con la pandemia, el mundo se paró y la única opción para seguir operando fue la nube. Gracias a ello, los CIO han perdido el miedo a la nube y parece que éste es el nuevo modelo digital, aceptado por todos. Pero el cloud genera unos costes que hay que tratar de optimizar”, comentaba María José Marzal, directora de ComputerWorld, en el arranque de la mesa redonda El reto de optimizar la inversión en cloud y optimizar los costes de explotación, organizada ayer por ComputerWorld, con la colaboración de Avanade.
“La optimización de la nube y el control de costes relativos al consumo es una gran preocupación cuando adoptamos este modelo. Puede ser un stopper, ya que es muy frustrante para las empresas no entender bien el consumo que tienen ni por qué se produce éste o los motivos por los que se dispara, así como darse cuenta de que tienen un consumo excesivo. Cuando nos movemos de un entorno on premise a la nube, partimos de un presupuesto y unas expectativas de inversión y de consumo. Pero en ese camino, el coste se puede disparar entre un 40% y 70%”, detallaba Teresa Oliva, responsable de las áreas de Cloud y Workplace de Avanade para España y Portugal.
La compañía ha detectado varios ‘puntos de dolor’ cuando se confrontan las expectativas y la realidad de las empresas al afrontar esta migración, como la difícil comprensión de la facturación y de la forma en la que se mide el consumo, la frustración por la falta de control y de visibilidad de los costes, la shadow IT y las compras fragmentadas que se generan o la sobrecompra de servicios que luego son infrautilizadas, entre otros.
Así pues, Oliva indicó que Avanade, consciente de estos problemas, ha desarrollado una metodología y varias herramientas “que ayudan a impactar y reducir notablemente el coste y visualizar y tener un control del consumo”, que se materializa en un modelo FinOps (financial operations).
Nuno Miguel Olivera, Cloud Offering Lead de Avanade para España y Portugal, explicó que esta herramienta se divide en tres grandes bloques de actuación: optimización de recursos, visualización y control de los consumos y costes, y desarrollo de una gobernanza especializada en consumo. Indicó que este modelo no solo permite optimizar los consumos y los costes rápidamente, identificando actuaciones que pueden generar inmediatamente un ahorro significativo, sino que aporta un control total y en tiempo real de la situación de cada organización. Además, ayuda a generar un modelo de gobierno que permite que los costes se mantengan controlados, más allá de los ahorros producidos inicialmente.
Pero el control de los costes no es el único problema que detectan las empresas cuando deciden migrar a la nube. Sobre todo hay que transformar la forma de trabajar del equipo de operaciones, como expuso Esther Vázquez, directora de Operación y Seguridad IT de Carrefour.
En la misma línea, María Jesús Castro, directora de Organización y Sistemas de DKV Seguros, reconoció que “los costes en la nube se desmandan fácilmente”, por lo que se requiere especialización para mantenerlos bajo control, además de contar con herramientas tecnológicas apropiadas.
Asimismo, Rafael Abreu, director de Proyectos Estratégicos de Bergé y Cía, reseñó que esta forma de gestionar la capacidad y la demanda, así como el control de costes que implica, también supone una nueva manera de imputar los costes a cada unidad de negocio. “Aquello que no se paga, no se valora. Y esto es muy importante para controlar la demanda. Es necesario que la gente tenga conciencia de lo que cuesta el servicio que se pone en marcha”, explicó.
Por su parte, Fernando Alías, adjunto a la Dirección y jefe de Gestión y Estrategia Tecnológica de Ibercaja, destacó la importancia del alineamiento de las áreas de TI y de negocio al abordar la migración a la nube. “Para nosotros, el alineamiento con negocio se ha producido porque las infraestructuras han crecido cuando había proyectos que apoyaban este crecimiento, no porque tuviéramos una necesidad de hacerlas crecer. Y creemos que con el cloud debe pasar lo mismo. Para hacer crecer la infraestructura, tiene que haber un caso de negocio que lo requiera y que lo rentabilice”, exponía. Además, recalcó que “cada unidad de negocio debe conocer que su producto tiene un coste y que también incluye una parte de infraestructura TI”.
