Así se desprende del estudio realizado por la Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) en 15 países, encargado por Microsoft, sobre el impacto de la COVID-19 en la relación entre la tecnología, las organizaciones y las personas.
La Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) acaba de publicar los resultados de un estudio exhaustivo sobre la evolución de la relación entre la tecnología, las empresas y las personas a lo largo de la pandemia de la COVID-19. La EIU ha entrevistado a 800 directivos de empresas, de ocho sectores diferentes, sobre los retos y las oportunidades que la pandemia ha generado en las organizaciones, y sobre cómo las iniciativas digitales han evolucionado para hacer frente a una nueva realidad.
La inmensa mayoría de los líderes empresariales señalan la preparación en términos de digitalización como un factor clave en la capacidad de adaptación de sus organizaciones. La adopción generalizada del trabajo a distancia también ha dado lugar a una mayor atención al compromiso de los empleados, hasta el punto de que temas como la capacitación, el bienestar y la aportación de beneficios a la sociedad encabezan en la actualidad la agenda de transformación de muchas organizaciones.
«Llevamos mucho tiempo constatando las ventajas que la transformación digital aporta a los clientes, y estos datos nos ofrecen una visión concreta de cómo los sectores han afrontado los desafíos del último año», afirma Deb Cupp, vicepresidente corporativo de Microsoft para los Sectores Empresarial y Comercial. «Los resultados confirman las tendencias que hemos visto emerger y refuerzan nuestro compromiso de ofrecer perspectivas, productos y servicios que ayuden a los clientes de todos los sectores a dar un giro cuando lo necesiten, empoderar a todos los trabajadores y hacer más.»
Este estudio de la EIU, encargado por Microsoft, tiene por objeto analizar los avances logrados el año pasado y determinar el camino a seguir. El estudio se centra en las cadenas de suministro, el trabajo a distancia, el análisis predictivo, la toma de decisiones y la seguridad y el bienestar de los empleados.
Los investigadores han establecido una correlación directa entre la madurez digital de las organizaciones y su capacidad para superar los efectos de una crisis sin precedentes: Cuanto más avanzadas están las empresas en su transformación digital, más rápido son capaces de recuperar su actividad y preparar a sus empleados para seguir adelante.
«La pandemia de la COVID-19 ha demostrado que las herramientas digitales son esenciales para permitir a las empresas ser ágiles a la hora de responder a las grandes adversidades», declara Michael Gold, director de la Unidad de Inteligencia de The Economist. «Pero este estudio muestra que no se trata sólo de las empresas. Las organizaciones consideran de manera mayoritaria que la transformación digital es crucial para superar las carencias de capacitación, comprometer a los empleados y ofrecer beneficios más amplios a la sociedad.»
El estudio muestra un interés creciente en todos los sectores por involucrar y conectar a las personas entre sí, con su trabajo y con un objetivo común. El porcentaje de todos los encuestados que citan el compromiso de los empleados como un requisito clave se disparó desde el 24% antes de la pandemia al 36% en la era COVID, y aumentó en 10 o más puntos porcentuales en el sector industrial, los servicios financieros, el sector retail y la educación.
La preocupación por las personas y la sociedad también se manifiesta de otras maneras. La mayoría de las empresas afirman que la pandemia ha evidenciado la necesidad de contribuir de forma más decidida por el bien de la sociedad en su conjunto: el 75% afirma que la transformación digital debería ir más allá del éxito empresarial para apoyar mejoras sociales como la apuesta por plantillas más inclusivas, el impulso de la accesibilidad y la lucha contra la huella de carbono y el cambio climático.
Las herramientas digitales se han convertido en una plataforma indispensable en todos los sectores. Las empresas más avanzadas en digitalización han demostrado una mayor agilidad a la hora de facilitar el trabajo a distancia, promover la colaboración descentralizada, restablecer las cadenas de suministro e interactuar con los clientes de forma innovadora. Pero, si bien la transformación digital permitió la continuidad del negocio, el estudio también revela carencias en la capacitación, la privacidad, la seguridad y el cumplimiento normativo a medida que las organizaciones avanzan en el uso de nuevas tecnologías.
Independientemente de que estén preparadas o no, las organizaciones de todos los sectores han acelerado sus iniciativas de transformación y han comenzado a depender en mayor medida de las herramientas digitales. En este sentido, la nube es la tecnología más utilizada, ya que el 50% de las organizaciones afirma que desempeña un papel fundamental en sus operaciones en la era COVID. Le siguen las tecnologías que permiten el trabajo en remoto (40%), la inteligencia artificial y el machine learning (33%) y el Internet de las cosas (31%).
