Gartner apunta que el gasto mundial en TI totalizará 3,8 billones de dólares (3,22 billones de euros, casi tres veces el PIB español) en 2021.
Marcado por efectos negativos de diverso calado, 2020 ha sido un año definitivamente de ‘números rojos’ en lo que se refiere a gasto tecnológico por parte de las organizaciones. En cambio, el presente ejercicio se presenta con buenos augurios en este ámbito dada la necesidad de las empresas de reforzarse en TI para afrontar un nuevo escenario volátil y plagado de incertidumbre.
El gasto mundial en TI totalizará 3,8 billones de dólares (3,22 billones de euros, casi tres veces el PIB español) en 2021, un aumento del 4% desde 2020, según el último pronóstico de Gartner. Se calcula que el gasto en TI en 2020 (consolidado) totalice 3,6 billones de dólares (3,05 billones de euros), un 5,4% menos que en 2019.
“En los 25 años que Gartner ha estado pronosticando el gasto en TI, nunca ha habido un mercado con tanta volatilidad”, ha expresado John-David Lovelock, vicepresidente de Investigación de Gartner. “Si bien se han impuesto factores estresantes únicos en todas las industrias a medida que se desarrolla la pandemia en curso, las empresas que ya eran más digitales al entrar en la crisis lo están haciendo mejor y seguirán prosperando hasta finales de 2021”, ha señalado convencido del valor inestimable que la tecnología ha mostrado para salvar a muchos sectores de actividad.
Es un dato significativo que todos los segmentos de gasto en TI han cerrado en negativo el pasado ejercicio. Se espera que el software empresarial tenga el repunte más fuerte en 2021 (7,2%) debido a la aceleración de los esfuerzos de digitalización por parte de las empresas que ofrecen apoyo a una fuerza laboral remota, brindan servicios virtuales como aprendizaje a distancia o telesalud, y aprovechan la hiperautomatización para garantizar que se cumplan las demandas impulsadas por la pandemia.
El gasto en sistemas de centros de datos experimentará el segundo mayor crecimiento (del 5,2% en 2021) a medida que los hiperescalares aceleren la construcción del centro de datos global y las organizaciones regulares reanuden los planes de expansión del centro de datos y permitan que el personal regrese físicamente al lugar de trabajo.
A pesar del aumento en la actividad de la nube en 2020, a medida que las organizaciones cambiaron a un entorno de trabajo remoto primero, el gasto empresarial en la nube. que se divide en múltiples categorías, no se reflejará en los ingresos de los proveedores hasta este 2021.
Esta misma situación se va a replicar en EMEA (Europa, Oriente Medio y África), con crecimientos negativos en todos los segmentos. La situación se va a corregir en 2021 con un aumento estimado del 2,8% con respecto a 2020, un año que se ha visto perjudicado por los efectos combinados del Brexit y las intervenciones de salud por la Covid-19. John-David Lovelock lo ha comentado gráficamente: “Antes de la pandemia, la mayoría de las organizaciones avanzaron sus estrategias digitales a un ritmo constante. El camino que seguir en 2021 es que las organizaciones aumenten, en lugar de disminuir, la velocidad de sus iniciativas empresariales digitales y financien esas iniciativas desviando fondos de otras áreas de TI”.
Se espera que el gasto en todos los segmentos disminuya en 2020. Sin embargo, en 2021, a medida que las organizaciones comienzan a reconfigurar sus modelos de negocio y operativas para una nueva realidad, las empresas aumentarán sus niveles de gasto y cambiarán las áreas en las que están gastando.
